lastkingsman: For poor countries, not wealthier ones. Robots don't pay taxes, nor do they consume goods and services. Although, it is rampant in Japan, but few places have robots taking care of the elderly or would accept such model. 1 Like |

ednut1: Immigration does not increase birth rate, it only increases the population. Japan is East Asia's second most populous country after China, and considering China is an anomaly at over a billion, one can say Japan is the most populous East Asian nation. Also, Japan has the highest birth rate in East Asia, higher than China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and every other Confucian society in the region as far as Singapore and even amongst Chinese Malaysians. South Korea has the lowest birth rate across the developed world, even after spending over $200BN in almost twenty years to alleviate the problem. Taiwan has spent $3BN to solve the same issue, yet both countries have lower birth rates than Japan. It is common to see families with at least two children here, but rare in China and South Korea. Marriage rates have plummeted across the rich world. Furthermore on immigration not leading to higher birth rates. Germany opened to Turks more than thirty years ago, yet the same Germany has low birth rates today. Sweden, France and the United Kingdom too. The United States, the world's most immigrant-friendly country, also suffers from low birth rates. The solution? Live with it. This is because, ACROSS the rich world, birth rates are dwindling. The richer a society is, the lower the birth rate. It's a given. In Nigeria, the south has a lower birth rate than the north. Literally, because the south is way more prosperous than the north. Even amongst Muslims in the south, they've fewer children than their Northern counterparts. Prosperity leads to fewer children. 6 Likes 3 Shares |

ednut1: What you have stated is true, which is why policymakers have to solve the issue of the pension system or else they will have to accept more immigrants, which risks the natives being the minorities. I have asked Japanese the question of immigration, and their response is almost the same: "Yes, we know there is a need for some sort of immigration, but it should be at a controlled number and not all kinds of immigrants are welcomed". I asked one recently what she thinks of accepting Somalian refugees into the country; her face changed, and she looked so worried. 2 Likes 1 Share |

You don't need to wait 50 years ask us do start begging you to come and rule Lagos from now |

DaddyJapan: Immigration does not necessarily solve low population issues Immigrants may assimilate, y'know, and start having one child like them natives... See the USA....that's why they have to take in fresh immigrants every year. |

One of my major concerns about migration. These folks can wake up anytime and decide to "ronu" calmly or aggressively. Living in an hostile environment won't ever make sense. 2 Likes |

Acidosis: My argument against that belief is that it is better to reside with racists in a prosperous land than live with tribalists in a poor area. Humans are tribal, but better being amongst wealthier ones. 4 Likes 1 Share |

GODPUNISHALABI:Leave them make they continue to cry. Igbos will continue sending her citizens to Yorubaland. They think say na by demolition. By January more Igbos will enter Lagos. In the next 50 years, we would have so watered down Lagos population that it will be like another Illorin. It'll definitely happen. Those that love one Nigeria should also love the dividends of one Nigeria |

nairalanda1: But you've just agreed with me - albeit reluctantly. Victor Orban is currently swimming against the tide in the EU, with his tax exemption scheme - which is designed to repopulate Hungary with 'indigenous' Hungarians. In my view, this amounts to locking the stable door after horsey has bolted, since it is clear that Europe's continued prosperity requires relatively cheap labour. Hungary leads the way when it comes to pouring money into pro-natalist policies. The government spends around 5 percent of its national GDP trying to prop up the birth rate. Gerrard59: Robots don't pay taxes doesn't mean "robotics tax" won't be introduced in the future. Lol Just listen to Elon musk on these subject to deepen your understanding Then on consuming goods, this is where universal basic income will come in. As robots take over repetitive tasks and improve productivity humans will be handed over some funds to spend |

lastkingsman: Erm...Father-of-nine-children Musk also believes low birth rates pose one of the greatest dangers to human civilization too. Elon Musk, who has 9 children, has called demographic decline "a much bigger risk to civilization than global warming." |
