Which Job Should I Pick? by Selfless1: 4:41pm On Dec 01, 2023 |
I got two jobs, and I don't know which to go for. Job 1 is a Porter position in a hotel. Salary - 40k Job 2 is a Customer Service position in MTN. Although, the employment is not from MTN directly. It's from a company MTN outsource the job to. Salary is 35k, with a 5k increment every 3months. Which should I choose, and please give reason. Thanks 7 Likes 2 Shares

Take the customer service role. In a year, your salary will be 55k. The role will also juice up your skillset for better opportunities. 93 Likes 3 Shares |

Choose the customer service own. That's a better career that adds to your experience than a hotel porter which is an unskilled job 71 Likes 3 Shares |

Selfless1: which of them is closer to his place of residence ? If I were in his shoes, I would go for PORTER since I would be able to do other things like 1. further my education, while placing myself on permanent NightDuty. Also with the customerService job, except you are offDuty (very rare), you only have mostly Sundays to yourself. That kinda of woork, the moment you loose it, you would be useLess to ya self because all your time went into it, with nothing left to further improve yourSelf 15 Likes 1 Share |

sulaak: I only stated what I would have done if I were in His shoes. Moreover, during my struggling days, na wetin I do. i never allowed myself be tied down. Even when I was promoted, I turned it down because e no favour me. of course those i met, whom where unHappy someOne who joined less than 2-years is already promoted, got surprised/confused when I turned it down less than 2-months after. Looking back today, I am eternally grateful I did such. Have often been told I am very inteligent BUT I hardly know that, but believe they telling me what they believe I wanna hear. When I advice or make suggestions, I try to say things more realistic and doAble. How many degrees are available online, and how easy is it for most of us ? It's like suggesting someone becomes a programmer just because I am one - what if such person is totally not built for such. Take it or leave it, education ain't meant for everyOne, same with being selfEmployed. It's you that would figure out what's best and what works for you. We don't even know age bracket of the person sef, and if the person is interested in climbing any ladder. Whoo knows, maybe the person is only considering those jobs because they're only what's currently available. Lastly, my response/suggestions to him isn't just for him alone, but to anyOne who might find themselves in similar situation. 10 Likes |

Pick the customer service job at MTN (ISON BPO I guess). This has a career path that you can focus on, unlike portal, no career path at all. I started off at MTN too (15k per month), and I am in a better space at this point. 5 Likes |

What is the experience you will get from hotel porter vs telco customer care? What is the exposure to other opportunities you will get from each? Which position will give your an opportunity/freedom for further self development What kind of people will you meet in the hotel vs the customer service center? If you actually have to ask these questions maybe the porter position is for you. |

Customer Service. As someone said above, it's something you can leverage on in the nearest future. and there's increment every 3 months! That means in a year you'll get 20k increment. I know the money is still small, but it's a starting step. Guy, no dull am |

These are not job, you already have a Android phone, start online vending, you will be making between 50k to 200k profit everything month with enough time to learn a skill on the side, just look for shops with what you like to sell and approach them, all you need to do is to take the job serious like you are working for a company 1 Like |

Selfless1: If you work as a customer care at MTN office it will boost your CV of getting international customer care remote job. Though the pay for the hotel job is high but Customer care agent will boost your CV even if you work with them for 6 months. My cent 5 Likes |
