Elders in the house, please how do you cut cost on car repairs in this UK?

I was recently charged £630 to replace REAR brake pads, brake disc and and brake callipers on a 2012 Honda Jazz... just rear brakes oo.

I later checked the prices of those parts on ebay and its about one-third of what I was charged at the garage. The price difference looks ridiculous but I'm also concerned about the genuineness of the parts listed on ebay.

Any pointers will be appreciated.

By the way, Honda Jazz is a very reliable car for starters. Drove about 9k in 1 year without any issues; serviced once and replaced rear brakes components. Glad I followed oga Lexus recommendations.

Way to go is having a mechanic that allows you to source for part your self.

Note that, don’t mechanic will now allow you to source once the old one has been removed from the vehicle, best it to know what’s wrong first then source online (eBay) and give to mechanic, they will only charge you for workmanship only.

The MOT history would have highlighted most of this defects........ Hence when negotiating price, you shave something off .........

Aside that fact, you still enter Kingsway go replace the parts .......

eBay is the best parts plug, then get a mobile mechanic, pay £100 or so, job done .......🤣😜

Yes boss, buy parts yourself n get a mobile mech is d way to go now. But my fear is one must get d parts type n model right otherwise OYO.

Exactly....... If you can't, kingsway mechanic would be happy to charge £630........ 😜🤣

Hi, thanks for your response but i respectfully disagree with the statement in bold. My brother is the sponsor, he’s in The UK and he doesn’t have to send money to my Mum’s account for the trip. His account statement/documents is sufficient but just want to know what amount will be fair to write as his total spend for the trip, thanks
Multiple times on my applications for sponsored trips. I write £2000 and then accommodation + feeding to be covered by me

Hi guys,

Please I need help and advice from those who have good knowledge on UK finance and banking system.

So I need to raise some money here in the UK. A little bit large sum of money to use first or second quarter next year.

Now the issue is, the money I will be using is in Crypto and because of my fear of “future tax” and also getting paid by someone who is money trafficking(or trying to disperse illegally gotten money), I am not open to using the UK P2P.

I have heard people talk about buying pounds with naira from Lemonade and I am thinking of exploring this option. So basically my plan is to sell my crypto to (naira) Naija, then buy pounds from lemonade. Don’t think there will be much difference as I will be selling USDT in black market rate for dollar already.

My concern is will this be an issue for/with my bank? I believe the fact that I am getting money deposited from lemonade will reduce the risk and make it easier to explain it’s my money coming from Naija.

Please those with the knowledge help with:

1. Is buying pounds from lemonade smooth and easy?
2. Is there a limit to how much one can buy (daily or weekly).
3. What amount will go smooth to my UK account and frequency to avoid raising banking brows?
4. Do you know of a better way to get money to UK from Naija (Naira)?
5. What’s your general advice?

Please bear in mind I work in security and any form of legal issue will dent my record, hence why I don’t mind putting my money in journey for protection.

Please free legal advice 😁. Help a brother.

Chreze:

1. Is buying pounds from lemonade smooth and easy?

Pretty much

2. Is there a limit to how much one can buy (daily or weekly).

Yes

3. What amount will go smooth to my UK account and frequency to avoid raising banking brows?

a figure that mirrors your regular account inflow/outflow, anything outside that will likely raise brows

4. Do you know of a better way to get money to UK from Naija (Naira)?

i) Classic trade by barter, no restrictions but riskier than lemonade.

ii)fund your GBP dorm account and request for a transfer from your bank in Nigeria to your UK bank. Cons: not very much competitive rate and high charges

5. What’s your general advice?

If going with option 4i above, ensure the name on the account you are paying naira into matches the one paying you £.

Thanks for this. You just cleared my head.

To be frank I am gearing more towards the lemonade part as i will feel more comfortable dealing with a company than an individual for so many reasons.

For point 3, I will use 70-80% of my fourth-nightly pay and most like do my transactions on my payday since my bank credit my account with a message saying pay-day. This might push my completion time, but I am okay to move to early 3rd quarter for safety and security.

One follow up question, any idea if I can have some else (family with same last name) pay to the lemonade account or it has to be credited from my own account. I will assume it has to be from mine (same account name) as the crediting/transfer process will be an in-app process.

And also, any idea the limit to convert from naira to pounds?

Thanks. You really did clear my head.

Yes both account names have to match.

And also, any idea the limit to convert from naira to pounds?

For Naira it is #3m daily, #10m weekly and #30m monthly.

Good morning house

Please I’m currently in need and search for a job, kindly quote me if you have suggestion or can make referrals. I’m currently living in canterbury,Kent.

I’m registered with two agencies now and past two weeks I haven’t even gotten one single shift and I’ve reached out severally, every other job I’ve applied to tend to always request if I drive or not. Once it’s NO the next mail is ‘unfortunately’

Help a brother 🙏

Is there a way I can go around that? What if I lie that I have lived in the UK for 3 years?

I myself have not stayed in the UK for upto 3 years. I think there's a part stating that your previous address could be from Nigeria. This is is because that's the option I used if I am given.

It is good to be in a good system ooooooo. I told 02 that I needed iPhone 15 Pro Max around 5PM and I got the phone delivered the next day around 2PM just like that. Chai...

Hello, guys. Friend of mine recently relocated to the UK with his family. From the gory stories he's been feeding me, abroad ain't all that is propped up to be. Freezing temperatures, monthly rent of £600, comparative cost of living, tuition, catering singlehandedly for the family cuz his nursing wife doubles as a student, on top of that, has to raise the sponsorship fee

He hasn't been making much progress with finding caregiver jobs and his options are limited. Can't do construction under this weather. So my question is, what form of trade or occupation can he pivot into before it's too late? My guy is bleeding cash so we are kinda desperate here

I'm sure a lot of guys got easier landing so I'm looking forward to any helpful resource you guys can bless us with. He is a naija graduate, if that matters. Many thanks

Good afternoon my elders. Thank you so much for your inputs. I have another issue now. The hiring manager for the NHS called me to ask about the code for the job role and I told her to ask the hr since I wasn't sure. It is a new role within the Ambulance service in charge of clinical practice for Paramedics. I told her it could come under the educational or health code.

The HR has replied her to say the post cannot be sponsored because it is not on the shortage occupation list. Please is there anyway I can find out from the home office if the position can be sponsored please?

Is there anyone that has had a similar issue and how best do I go about this as I am not happy at all. This is a great opportunity for me. Thank you ever so much for all your advice. There are all appreciated.

quote author=Oyi12 post=127218529]Hello elders, please I need your opinion on this. I got 2 offers with sponsorship. The first is with council in a day centre while the second is a Band 5 with the NHS but in Bristol. Considering how expensive Bristol is will it be wise for me to move there with the band 5 salary with my family? There is prospect for me to secure a higher grade in the NHS in future but I am just scared of because of how expensive Bristol is.

House rent is about £1,500 average while i stay in a town where i pay less than £1,000 for rent. We are a family of 4 and my spouse hasn't gotten a job yet.

The bolded should not be applicable if it's a personal account. When my mum came, i didn't deposit any funds in her account and I haven't heard anybody done such. I only stated I will sponsor the trip 100% and provided PoF.

People get refused for huge/suspicious deposits prior to visa application except you want to give plenty explanation for it.

I wouldnt know but when it comes to conpany acc that was the reason they stated for refusal which is rubbish to me, why deny me when i have proved i am in custody of the company acc and i can spend from it and its a sole business

Hello seniors and gurus in the house. Happy Sunday all! Please I need adevise and Guidance. Please do we have anyone who have switched skilled worker visa or changed employment before . I’ve just got a new cos since I came 8 months ago and I’ve not worked anywhere or with the employer that brought me in since then. Please I need help on how to go about filing it. Also I think they will ask of my landlords details, my relatives rented the house where I stay with my family and don’t know if they will verify with the landlord if I the one that actually rented the house. Also I don’t know if I should go ahead and start the employment switch without notifying my previous sponsor or when the visa has been granted i should inform them.

Also do I need to write any letter to home office?

Please urgent reply needed.

Thank you for your time.

For me oh, what I do is to order the parts through RRG Toyota and I get good price from them. I don't have to service the car from them but I take the parts to my mechanic. Ordering from Company like that gives you rest of mind and they can't make mistake because they will get your car details and sketch out exactly what you need. Even if they do, they still will return it at their cost

It’s not always rosy at the other side. Most of us here went through the same thing. Everything will fall in place once his wife is able to work. The transition from naija to abroad life is not rosy at all. Culture shock, the weather and the massive rent. Tell your friends to apply for teaching assistant/ cover supervisor role. He can also apply for invigilator rule in school, they are currently recruiting lot of people at this moment. May God help us all.

Its a fallacy that Nigerians need to know.

Anyone know the best way to move (physical or online) USD savings in a Nigerian domiciliary account to the UK? Will they allow an individual to withdraw bill USD cash? Is it save to travel with that amount? Any other electronic transfer options?

Get mastercard (or other cards) and be ready to move your dollars to the card at the point of withdrawal. You will withdraw pounds at the prevailing exchange rate for the day.

Sorry can you elaborate further.
I have a USD Mastercard already.
Are you saying I should go to the Naija bank branch and ask for a cash withdrawal then use Aboki to change to GBP? Or for them to put it in GBP (?) Mastercard?
