Yes, it's not only Binis that have ruled Lagos in history. The Europeans also ruled Lagos; would the Europeans now claim they founded Lagos because of that? The fact that a powerful kingdom once ruled another territory at a time in history and had cultural influences on that territory doesn't mean it founded the territory. It's like the Romans now claiming they founded the entire Europe and part of Asia just because they once ruled over the area. The Binis should rest with this their incredible history. They recently claimed that Yoruba people originated from Bini, too. victory36: |

Any union between Ijesa and Ibadan despite both being Yoruba can only be by understanding. If not it will not last and there will certainly be blood flow at some point even nowadays. If you go to another land who don't even speak your language and say iit's your land, it can surely result in problems for you anywhere in the world. There were different Benin posts in the past and those Benin were Yoruba but if you can't go to Akure to claim the place or Onitsha, Ussele Ukwu etc why Lagos?. Ogedengbe of Ijesa collected tribute on behalf of Ibadan in Benin, Akure also did. Are they claiming the place now?. So don't claim other people's land in this modern age to avoid trouble. If you don't want something done to you don't do to others. There is no Edo place name in Lagos because everything official in the Benin empire was Yoruba as the dominant group in the empire and also in the capital back then. Even town names not far from Benin are Yoruba names but are now Edoid towns. Oghotoun is the same as in Ekiti. Agenebode is Ago onibode. If they did that nearby to Benin how much more in Lagos? |

ariesbull: Mighty men grabbed what they can, until they are stopped...it is the way things were done of old. Same way we also grabbed and expanded ours towards dahomey to west and itshekiri to the south. And even when the fulanis cunningly took ilorin, we decisively dealt with them when they tried further nonsense in oshogbo. And even the Benin kingdom you are yapping about have their rulers as cousins to other yoruba kingdoms and all descendants of one ancestor oduduwa ...so it is a family affair, brothers playing card. The question to you will be for you to name where your own ancestors expanded to. Where are your kingdoms mentioned in the history books...Shonghai empire we know,Ashanti kingdom we know, oyo and Benin we know, sokoto caliphate we know, kanem-borno we know... Where did your chest beating ancestors create....your villages are not rich historical landmarks of brown roofs and meaningful archaeological details but simply modern houses built by descendants of cowards who are trying to erase their ancestors cowardice and create new legacies.... |

tunjilana: You never won anywhere in war ..... Telle one But this is how Arochukwu was founded and named Aro Okigbo (Great Igbo ) Before Igbo arrival in the Aro territory, a group of proto Ibibio migrated to the area and established the Ibom Kingdom during the Bantu expansion. This proto Ibibio group originally came from Usak Edet (Isanguele), a segment of the Ejagham in present-day Southern Cameroon. The Eze Agwu clan from Abiriba, initiated Igbo migration into the region around the mid-17th century. The Ibibio clan welcomed all until some started rebelling against the ruling house. The Eze Awgu group who lead the rebellion against the ruling family aligned with several outside forces like the Priest Nnachi from the Edda group near Afikpo, was called by their king Awgu Inobia (Eze Agwu) for help. When he arrived, Nnachi and Eze Agwu allied with prince Akakpokpo Okon of the Ibibio kingdom of Ibom Kingdom. Akakpokpo Okon was the son of a marriage between an Igbo woman of the Eze Agwu clan and the King Obong Okon Ita in an attempt of a peace treaty for a war that have been fought between the Igbo subgroup and Ibibio. The Eze Agwu/Nnachi faction decided to help Akakpokpo attempt to overthrow his brother king Akpan Okon. The coup was heavily resisted which called for even more help. Through Nnachi, an Eastern Cross river group answered the call for help. They were known as the Akpa who were living at today Akwa Akpa before the arrival of the Efik people in that region. These warriors and traders, may have had European guns which were new to the territory. Being the Igbo allies, the Akpas were led by the royal Nnubi family. Osim and Akuma Nnubi led Akpa soldiers to help fight against the ruling household. Together with Igbo forces and rebels, they fought against the Ibom Kingdom forces (1690). During the final battles, Osim Nnubi was slain in Oror city state making it the capital of Arochukwu. At the end of the war, Osim and Akakpokpo were dead. In order to honor Osim's legacy, his brother Akuma was crowned the first EzeAro (king). After his death, Nnachi's descendants took the throne starting with his first son Oke Nnachi. The Arochukwu kingdom, was founded |

tunjilana: How Igbo defeated Igalla and took Nsukka which is the present day Enugu state...I know Yoruba lost territories from Ilorin to Offa . The Nsukka people have continuously inhabited northern Igboland since the 3rd millennium BCE as shown through archeological continuity and glottochrony. During the period of the Igbo-Igala Wars, marked by a scarcity of labor and insecurity resulting from slave raiding and the Nsukka-Igala conflicts, notable changes occurred in the iron smelting practices of the Nsukka people. Due to urgency, some iron smelters resorted to using wood directly in their smelting process, bypassing the usual practice of burning it to produce charcoal. This adaptation in smelting techniques demonstrates the impact of the war on the traditional methods employed by the Nsukka community, as they incorporated wood into their process to sustain their iron production amidst the challenging conditions.[3] The conflicts started with the arrival of a figure named Onọjọ Ogboni whose background is surrounded in mystery. One of the 18th century conflicts was the Battle of Nsukka in 1794, which resulted in a Nsukka military victory, but with significant losses including the Eze's eldest son, and three of his wives. The battle was witnessed by Sailor, Joseph B. Hawkins |

tunjilana: How Igbo conquest of Itigidi group and how the ogbo established Abakiliki and other towns in Ebonyi ...I will tell you about how Igbo conquered and took half of Abia ! I know Yoruba lost lands from non Yoruba and they were enslaved but not Igbo Now read .... During the early 19th century, the Eastern Igbo subgroups located in Ebonyi State underwent a significant migration towards the Cross River areas, this in turn manifested in boundary disputes between several Eastern Igbo groups with her neighbours such as Ikwo-Nsobo and Osopo of Cross River State, Izzi – Osopo and Yala of Cross River State and Mgbo-Igala of Benue State. A similar migration skirmish towards Abia State in the 17th century established the Aro Confederacy. As the Ezza, Izzi, Ikwo subgroups moved northward, all who are said to descend from siblings whose patriarch hailed from Afikpo, the Ezza ecountered the indigenous Orri people and protected them from extinction in exchange for farming rights. The Ikwo people encountered the Okum and annihilated then assimilated the rest of them, the Okum do not exist as an identifiable group anymore but there is archeological and cultural proof of their existence, as there are non-Igbo dances and masquerades in modern Ikwo culture. The southern Ikwo displaced the indigenous Adadama group far to modern Cross River State. |

tunjilana: On Aba axis ..the Ngwa and Abriba took lands after conquest They were formerly located in the former Abak and Ikot Ekpene Divisions of the Annang Province, in the former Eastern Region of Nigeria. They have a common boundary with the Sudanic Igbo. They had to fight many wars against the Ngwa Igbo in order to preserve their territorial integrity and their farmlands (Udo 1983). Being always confronted with inter-tribal wars, the Annang people then not having access to sophisticated weapons always resorted to the reliance on spiritual powers to conquer their enemies. Reliance on spiritual beings for aid has become a way of life among the people. In their worldview, humans must always resorts to ‘higher’ spiritual beings for assistance. Wars aren't good what our forefathers did was fight for expansion and we don't do that today |

ariesbull: I dot need a thread to know every detail about oyo, benin, sokoto, kanem-bornu, ashanti, shongai, zulu etc kingdoms. They are part of well documented african discourse as notable and formidable nation states, created by strategic , wise, courageous and forward-thinking elders through conquest and alliances. It is well known that the igbos never created any such powerful nation-state at any time. What you had were just loose "autonomous" communities where every man simply manned his "hut/shop" and where every man is too "wise" to allow the merging of communities into kingdoms and no powerful, courageous leader (like oranmiyan , shaka-zulu, dan fodio, Idris Alooma e.t.c.)capable of rallying everyone under one umbrella to create a notable igbo kingdom that will enter history books.... An approach that is still evident in the politics and business approach of igbos today... |

ariesbull:That is how wars are fought. When the Benin tried to invade Ijesa they were stopped at Ikeji ile Ijesa because the oracle said camp where you encounter Eji or dews and the Ijesa repelled the Benin invaders who nevertheless successfully took Akure. Otherwise the whole of Ijesa would have become Benin territory at the time. It was during the reign of Owa Obokun Atakunmosa When Ijesa had another war they went to Benin to beg for assistance. It was during Owa Obokun Gbegbaaje"s reign. When Oranmiyan wanted to go and revenge for Oduduwa where he was driven out from, the Bariba massed across the River Niger and offered battle. He settled there and formed the first Oyo allying with the Nupe by marrying the Etsu's daughter. When the Nupe sacked the Oyo capital. It was another Alaafin born by a Bariba mother who allied with the Bariba and drove the Nupe out of Oyo after eighty years. When the Americans won their independence from Britain, it was with the aid of France or else it might not have been possible and the US may be part of the British Commonwealth today The Nazis of Germany only attacked Russia when sure Italy is guarding the rear and that France is no longer a threat. Do you know how many white men died fighting for Biafra? And none for Nigeria? Do you know that major powers provided military equipment, backing and etc for both Biafra and Nigeria? Therefore wars are fought like that. Don't rush into war nor must you run away from war because all the help you need will always come. All you need to tend to is your intention. Your aim should be noble and God will take care of the rest. |

ariesbull: Only sadists or clowns engage in such self glorification. However no territory gained through war ever lasted. Do you know of any?. There is none at all. Not in the past and there will be none in the future. All identities on Yoruba land and all over the Earth presently are results of understanding. All new identities that will emerge will be thesame way. Wars are not permanent solution to anything. It just postpones the evil day |
