It remains a shame that there was even an attempt to use dishonest means to revise history and suggest that the original owners of the land are now the late bini settlers. Haba! What a fraud! It's so sad and it's a lesson to communities currently giving land to settlers to ensure that they keep records very well like our Yoruba forebears did. Kudos to our forebears for keeping accurate records for a period like this. They had the foresight that some of the descendants of the settlers may some day lie that they own the land. But for these history books that documented who owns Lagos, none of our forebears would have ever proven to us that they had an inkling and foresight that some day the descendants of bini visitors in Lagos will some day covet and brazenly lie that they own Lagos. Ha! Aiye ma nika o. Asari Dokubo was absolutely right in his account and his anger at the Oba of Benin was because the Oba of Benin even removed the assistance his Ijaw gave to the Benin who attacked that tiny part on the fringes of Yorubaland. It's been one lie after another further diminishing the Benin in the eyes of many. From the bursting of the Benin lie that the Oba of Benin never leaves the palace , internet era came and exposed the blatant lie. Next was lie that they did not originate from Ile Ife and heads of past Oba of Benin were not buried in Ile Ife but the Yoruba elders were so clever to preserve the history and location in Ile Ife till date. The 3rd lie is the attempt to claim a land that does not belong to them not knowing that the Yoruba documented it well. The only reason I think they lie in this manner is pride. Now pride has led to fall. Below is a picture that shows how far behind the Oba of Benin is behind the Ooni of Ife. This picture, all other evidences including the Orun Oba Ado in Ile Ife and oldest history books is the triumph of history over lies. Check my signature for free stuffs! 59 Likes 12 Shares

It has always been an Awori settlement and the Ijebus as well around the Epe, Ikorodu and some Lekki areas. The bini soldiers came over 100 years after the Awori had settled in the land. Much ado over nothing. Anyway, Lagos is covered by Ogun, then Ondo. It seems God knew many strange tribes would try to covet the land and eledumare decided to protect it with two Yoruba states. 2nd picture is the tiny piece of land (coloured red) the Benin occupied when they arrived with their soldiers. 30 Likes 5 Shares

Look, Benin Cannot even Swim not to talk of fighting the Awori and Ijebus who can swim like fish in Water When it get down to the Wire and you dig deeper you will discover that the people who actually ran the show were the Itsekiri who even had Ijebu roots anyway Na Itsekiri carry Benin come Lagos And the Itsekiri even consider themselves to be Yoruba' People anyway Benin People cannot Swim and they Cannot Canoe So Benin defeating Awori and Ijebus on Water is out of the Question Just say it was the Itsekiri And the Itsekiri had Ijebu roots 35 Likes 6 Shares

Well Yorubas own Lagos today but the binis & ijaws were there before them. Even archeological artifacts found in places in Lagos gives evidence to that effect. 10 Likes 2 Shares |

Christistruth00: “So, how could the ancestors of the Oba of Benin have been the ones who brought into existence a settlement that they waged war against in 1603 but which received the Portuguese explorer, Rui de Sequeira, in 1472?” Olagunju wondered. They even attacked that small part of Lagos almost 300 years after the Portuguese explorer visited Lagos and reported meeting the original Yoruba founders of Lagos. They didn't know that the Yoruba kept clean records of the history of their own Lands. Sadly, it's been one lie after another further diminishing the Binis in the eyes of many. From the bursting of the Bini lie that the Oba of Benin never leaves the palace , internet era came and exposed the blatant lie. But for the expose by the internet, they would still continue with the lie whereas they knew it was a lie. 15 Likes 4 Shares |

You want to talk about history of Lagos and you are quoting a book written in 1913 by Yoruba Revisionists. Like seriously And some of you dont even go near that part that talks about Aworis paying tax to the Benins. One of the many truths that prevails but you cant accept it. 26 Likes 1 Share |

goodnessme1: zombieHUNTER: killsmith: sotall: Stressing that Oba Ewuare II’s claims are historically not correct, he added, “I read G.A. Akinola’s ‘The Origin of the Eweka Dynasty of Benin: A Study in the Use and Abuse of Oral Traditions (1976)’. In April 1973, the researcher was in the palace of the Oba of Benin, Akenzua II, on an interview appointment but the Oba changed his mind when he arrived. The Oba refused to speak with the man while he ‘wondered why a Yoruba should be interested in Benin history.’ “The researcher reported that his session with the king ended ‘with the Oba and his courtiers reminiscing about how Eko (that is Lagos) belongs to Benin by right of conquest long ago.’ I see a divergence here between the position of the current Oba of Benin and that of his ancestor, Akenzua II. The ancestor claimed Lagos as a war booty; the incumbent claims Lagos as a creation of his ancestors.” Smh. It's obvious that the report is too long enough for you to comprehend. Above quote is the part of the report that tells you where even a past Oba of Benin never brazenly lied about who founded Lagos or denied that the Yoruba founders and owners of Lagos were the ones they met in Lagos. There was never any contest on who founded Lagos or doubt that the Yoruba awori founded and own Lagos. This attempt to revise history is recent and fraudulent. It fell flat in the face of the clever manner our forebears preserved the truth. According to Mujahideen Asari Dokubo, saying Benin founded Lagos shows how unintelligent some people are - THAT IS HISTORICAL PARASITISM - ASARI DOKUBO https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgLTNhetuwQ?si=Glv69X2MR1I7EAZh. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C0Q0sJro0Ow/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== 10 Likes 2 Shares |

Validated: Paying ishakole doesn't explain how Edo founded Lagos. Nigeria became a slave center for the European and Portuguese before evaluating, should dey now say they own Lagos because even the name Lagos was given to buy the Portuguese. They could try to twist the history as u lots are trying to steal our ancestral home simply because of the juicy enjoyment in Lagos. 14 Likes 3 Shares |

The Ibini in Lagos may never have stepped on or been to Benin. The Yoruba Ibini were an Awori people. Of course, they were an original Benin clan among the Awori, and they didn't come from the present Benin city but from the Levant, where the journey of the Yoruba founding fathers started. To check this fact, where does Obanikoro family hails from in present day Benin? Where does Olorogun Adodo hail from? The same applies to Eletu Iwashe. Ultimately, the oriki Eletu Iwashe gave us a good information about our common heritage, It says "omo erin o beji" this simply means "descendants of twined emigrants". If that applies, then Ibini simply means "first born". So, who is the Iseyin (second born)? That would be the patriarch of the Awori. And like we did the first, we have to check out Oriki Awori. The oriki Awori says "Kafeso gunle si Isheri Mole." The Awori were descendants of isheri-Mole. Isheri was the other twin of Ibini, hence the Eletu Odibo and other ogalade(s) of Lagos were "ara Ibini Arokuntayo", while the Awori house were "omo oloko nile Isheri". Together, they made up the band of explorers that came to be known as Awo-ri. A witness to this story is the fact that the original Lagosians were refers to as "Awonrin" by their egun counterparts. Awonrin in Yoruba simply means "the emigrants". So if this was how the people identify themselves originally, it speaks a lot about their history. But since the Portuguese were the first to record Lagos History, what they learn was euphorically retold to suit Benin City. That should also be expected, the Portuguese were out in search of Prester Jean, a fabled kingdom of Christian that was long lost and that if found could help check the encroaching menace of the Ottoman empire ravaging the West at the time as a formidable ally. The search eventually open up the world with Ferdinand Magellan and the likes, culminating in the discovery of Congo kingdoms and the slave trade. Right after the slave trade began the evil of racism compare to great fervour and esteems that the Portuguese have earlier held African communities they had discovered. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Lol Oba was on colos when he was making that assertion. In Nigeria today many people rewrite history just to suit their ego, and unfortunately few gullible and lazy people who can't read history by themselves or perhaps who read but can't understand, believe whatever lie and fiction they read and hear from one dumb head sitting at the corner of his/her room. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Another dagger in the heart of Pandora children. Nnamdi Azikiwe tried,he was disgraced brutally,Ojukwu tried and failed woefully, Pandora and his miserable kids has continued from where Azikiwe stopped. Anyways, there's only one outcome, when you overstepped your boundaries in Lagos. Yorubas will always put you in your place. 14 Likes 3 Shares |

“War historians will describe what happened as seizure by conquest. That is a relationship that does not align with Oba of Benin’s claim of founding Lagos and of Benin being its source. You don’t wage a war against non-existent people. The fact of Lagos’s existence provoked the attack and subjugation from Benin forces. This is logical and reasonable...thank God civilization did not allow portugal and UK to lay claims on Nigeria's ownership/foundation🤔🤕 The fact of Lagos’s existence provoked the attack and subjugation from Benin forces. May be because Lagos is the only greater land they founded 7 Likes 3 Shares |
