This boxing is not for born again as it is not those with physical strength or tactics that win but those with more powerful charms.

Very dangerous sport because charms and poisons are usually used by fighters. I watched a documentary sometime ago I think from Senegal, where fighters rub poisonous substances on thier local gloves to fight opponents.Some fighters go as far as rubbing venom from viper snakes and scorpions. Just one good punch and the opponent will become sick and might die after the fight.

I remember some years ago when this particular bout was going on in my neighborhood, we brought a guy from the stadium to fight the hausa local fighters. This guy was a professional wrestler who later became a silver medalist at the commonwealth games. Despite huge sums of money staked on him, none of those local fighters agreed to fight him. Till today, I'm still wondering why they all refused to engage him in a fight.

Very interesting! I watched one called "Mai tantabara" who comes to fight with a pigeon on his shoulder! As soon as the fight begins, the pigeon will fly off his shoulder and hover around and as soon as his master wins the fight, the pigeon flies back to his shoulder in celebration!
But if he looses the fight, the pigeon doesn't fly back to his shoulder!(they will probably meet at home later)

You are right about how they freely use local Juju. These Guys are usually "Yan tauri" most of them Knife, Spair, arrow or Gun does not penetrate them.

This was initially a game for Warriors and Warlords in those days. It was meant to display Gallantry. But those Warriors still exist till date in the North. They are refered to as "Yan tauri".
