So much ado about immigratio.. rightly so.. the mary-go-round continues... The trilema has always been 1. Gold platted work and tripple locked pensions +benefits in a slow growing economy 2. High wages and low house prices to please the young 3. Very low immigration to please most It's a tripod the modern UK economy has found impossible to balance... one would always give when they try to capture all. Just like Brexit, this time would not be an exception 3 Likes |

Resurgent2016: You capture so much brilliantly I had to requote your post again. moreso highlighting reasons for the resultant difference in attainment among immigrants in different nations. It's always down to opportunities available. Finally, also the end effect on integration and equality... it cuts across... housing, school, health e.t.c. Eventually, the immigrants of today would be Brits of tomorrow.. hmm... lets hope its not recreating the servile class of old Britain. 5 Likes |

eniola1010: Yes it definitely doesn't affect health and care workers in the NHS. No salary threshold and you can still bring in dependants. Less clear on the non-clinical roles but the NHS guide doc recently published (see below) seems to indicate that all NHS roles are exempted. https://www.nhsemployers.org/news/changes-uk-immigration-policy-faq 1 Like 1 Share |

Saysozzz: If you haven't completed your studies, with proof from your university that you can share with the home office, it's very unlikely you'll be allowed to switch your visa status in line with recently implemented rules. Can you apply for a visa extension since your school has approved your course extension? 1 Like |

Zahra29: Thank you! That's my point exactly. And like a friend of mine would put it it's more factual to say we're open to receiving war fleeing refugees who look like us. There's no point sugar coating it. It's unconscious bias, it's in everyone. 1 Like 1 Share |

Goodenoch: If you followed the conversation from the beginning maybe you'd understand my point better. Somebody asked why are UK citizens not complaining about Ukrainian refugees despite their large number, and the person I quoted said it's because they're fleeing war. So my point is it's more than that and OP herself actually agreed. |

It isn't just the UK revising immigration policies The Prime Minister of one of the largest core Anglosphere countries, Australia has said migration policies will be reviewed in the interest of Australians etc. This was just last night.. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/dec/09/anthony-albanese-announces-plan-to-reduce-immigration-levels-following-covid-influx https://www.news.com.au/national/pm-albanese-warns-of-student-crackdown-ahead-of-migration-overhaul/news-story/876b3f8e57b78eb1071b71cd4533babd Like i stated, Countries will do what they seem best in the interest of their citizens and that's fair/fine.... either you cry and cry about it Or you adapt and plan around it 1 Like |

are they revising their immigration policies? Yes or No? Yet again, you need to understand you're comparing countries (US and Australia) that are the top5 largest in land mass to the UK.. the jobs and opportunities will never ever be the same.. US accounts for 6% of the world's land mass Australia accounts for 5% of the world's land mass UK accounts for less than 0.5% of the world's land mass yet is just 1% behind US in % of immigrants to total population Like someone said, this isn't a moral issue.. it is a matter of economic numbers hustla: |

This thread is for Nigerians who have migrated and now live in the UK. Even though people yet in the country can still get valuable information from here, I think we should deeply discuss how those who are already in the country can stabilize, get ILR or move to other countries. It would be an unheard of situation for Nigerians already in the UK to now be deported. Lol. But seriously, it's an issue to be looked at. 1 Like 1 Share |

Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by LionInZion: 11:35am On Dec 09, 2023 |
profemebee: I quite agree with you that every responsible govt would prioritise its citizens interest over others. That said, at bolded - this idea of 'keep shot or fvck off' that I've seen expressed here over and over isnt the best. There are several points I disagree with both for and against the new policy but it's not in my place to ask people to stop complaining and adapt. If everyone holds that view, all asylum seekers would have been shipped off to Rwanda without anyone challenging the policy in court; several migrants would have been deported at POE for minute reasons without any immigration lawyer fighting for them. I work in this industry and I have first hand experience of how this policy has rattled up so many people especially British citizens with foreign spouses. So it'll be unfair to ask people not to "rant" about it if they feel aggrieved. We react to issues differently and if your own way is to adapt and move on, someone else's might be to 'cry' about it, and each is within their right. And if you think the complaints here is too much, just pay a visit to Reddit.🙂 7 Likes 1 Share |

there is no table shaking bro He brought news of PSW being extended last year as a response to last night's news from the PM of Australia stating they want to revise immigration laws..... The PM yesterday said they're going to reduce immigration nos and there will be a student crackdown in migration overhaul Isn't it clear that they're going to change policies they currently have? So how's bringing up 2022 news a response to last night's news? Hopefully they don't cut down the PSW Poanan: 1 Like |

ehizario2012: LOL I think its pretty simple at this point. You can go the PSW and try to find a sponsored job in your field for one year. If it doesn't work, you can go the Healthcare route ... Or just go the Healthcare route and save £2900 for PSW I just think the new rules will just make companies choose local folks. If a job is offering 35K, instead of increasing the salary to 39K and sponsoring you, why not give it to a citizen instead? Also, PR to Canada /Australia, though not exactly easy to get but you can apply and remain in the pipeline. The EB visas for the US are also if you're patient and have the qualifications requured 1 Like 1 Share |
