Akinomoakin021: If you use Lagos Island alone it will actually be 0.24 % of Lagos State Land Mass If you add Ebute Metta and Yaba that can Bring it up to 0.30 % But the Problem is that those Lands were only Leased by the British Government after they ran out of Space on Lagos Island and the Lease agreement has already expired without being renewed that means that anything outside of the Lagos Island is Technically Western Region Territory Even the Leasehold agreement that the British had with the Onikoyi has Also run out but we still included it as part of the Lagos Island the Capital Originally Lagos the Capital ended at Apongbon Bridge on Lagos Island Lagos Island is 9.26 sq km while Lagos State is 3,577 Sq km 12 Likes 4 Shares |

You fools like talking rubbish. What is the difference between Abuja and FCT? If there's a surge in population in Mararaba, or even as far as Suleja, it is all because people are drawn to the capital city of Nigeria. If they can't afford to reside in the main city, they will reside in the suburbs and surrounding areas. Whatever economic and social benefits/consequences accrue to the FCT, trickles down to every corner of the greater Abuja and even neighboring states like Nasarawa and Niger State. Same applied to Lagos! So this disingenuous and vexatious attempt to differentiate Lagos the capital of Nigeria and Lagos the non-capital of Nigeria is quite stupid. 11 Likes |

hedonido: It was the British government who differentiated between it both during Colonisation , before independence and after independence You Probably don’t know that the British Governor Capt Glover and the Egbas of Abeokuta fought over Ebutte Meta which the Egba Army Controlled in addition to the entire Lagos Mainland The Ijebu Army controlled everything North and East of Lekki and the Oyo Army of Alaafin controlled Badagry Area and all the way to Porto Novo That was how the British Colonial Government met things on Ground when they arrived in 1851 Ijebu Egba and Oyo had spent almost a Century fightIng over the Lagos Coast and it had ended in a 3 way Draw The Egbas also took Iddo Island and Could have taken Lagos Island but decided it would cost them too many men to Capture Lagos Island because of the Sea Warfare that would have been necessary It in the End it was the Egba Christians who Brought the British into the Conflict as allies of the Egbas that was when the British Bombarded Lagos and Replaced Oba Kosoko with Oba Akitoye as Oba of Lagos Oba Akitoye’s mother was from Abeokuta and he had been living at Abeokuta after seeking refuge there 19 Likes 5 Shares

Ozommadu: Apapa port was established in 1913 and the construction of 1st 4 deep water berths started in 1921. Lagos Airport was initially built during 2nd World War. Carter bridge was built in 1901. Lagos - Abeokuta railway was opened in 1898, got to Ibadan in 1902. As far back as 1860s, Lagos already got electricity, telephone, post office, Schools, City Hall, recreation centres, Cathedrals, public & private hospitals, tarred roads, business districts and international trade centres etc. As you can see, many of the developments in Lagos occurred b4 amalgamation and formationofNigeria. So, Lagos was majorly developed by the locals and colonial masters, using revenues generated from Lagos and other parts of Western Region. 20 Likes 6 Shares |

Building of Race Course (now TBS) commenced in 1859 during Oba Dosunmu reign Lagos - Abeokuta railway was opened in 1898, got to Ibadan in 1902. The level of development already on ground made the colonial masters to select Lagos as the Capital of Nigeria (previously Lokoja and Calabar) 9 Likes 2 Shares |

Akinomoakin021: Your Calculations are completely wrong and Apapa with Mainland are Western Region leased Lands they didn’t actually belong to the Federal Capital they were leased as a result of Lagos Island running out of Land The Original Sea Port was on Lagos Island Lekki part of. Eti-Osa actually belonged to the Western Region 4 Likes |

Pakute: This is a complete lie,the areas under Western government where seriously underdeveloped, only a few parts probably Ikeja that was developing, all other areas that were developing such as amuwo-odofin, surulere, Ojo and apapa were as a result of FG. The areas that were under Western government even today are less developed, do not try to be deceptive,Lagos developed totally because of FG |
