Critical stakeholders in the political crisis rocking Rivers State have agreed to resolve the conflict.

The decision was taken at a meeting convened by President Bola Tinubu, which was attended by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, a former governor of the state, Peter Odili, the immediate-past governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, and other stakeholders at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, on Monday evening.

According to a resolution signed Monday night, the President directed that all matters instituted in the courts by the governor and his team in respect of the political crisis be withdrawn immediately.

Also, all impeachment proceedings initiated against the governor by the State House of Assembly should be dropped immediately.

The resolution was signed by Governor Fubara, Wike; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Speaker, Rivers State Assembly, Martin Amaewhule; PDP state chairman, Aaron Chukwuemeka and APC state caretaker chairman, Tony Okocha.

The resolution reads, “The leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly as led by the Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule shall be recognised alongside the 27 members who resigned from the PDP.

“The remunerations and benefits of all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and their staff must be reinstated immediately and the Governor of Rivers Statet shall henceforth not interfere with the full funding of the Rivers State House of Assembly.”

Given the inhabitable state of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex, Tinubu directed that the lawmakers “shall choose where they want to sit and conduct their legislative business without interreference and/or hindrance from the Executive arm of government.”

Also, Fubara, who had earlier presented the 2024 Appropriation Bill to four members of the Assembly “shall re-present the state budget to a properly constituted Rivers State House of Assembly.”

Likewise, the President directed that the names of all Commissioners in the Rivers State Executive Council who resigned their appointments because of the political crisis in the state “should be resubmitted to the House of Assembly for approval”, adding that “There should not be a caretaker committee for the local governments in Rivers State” declaring the dissolution of the Local Government administration as “null and void”.

It is left to be seen if the gladiators in the crisis will abide by the resolutions or not.

Hmm.

The questions remain:
How will it work?
Does this so called “directive” supercede the constitution? As it stands, Edison Ehie is recognized as the speaker.
Publicly 27 members decamped to APC from PDP and by that have lost their seats.
How has the name of Amewhule returned, when he has lost his seat by law?
What will happen to the commissioners who of their own volition resigned?
So the 5 men who are recognized should suddenly give up their positions just like that?
INEC should simply tear the notice of vacant seats from the house or ignore it?
The budget has been signed. How can it be presented again?
The commissioners who resigned should just get back to their offices without screening again?

Please these are the issues. Is it not that this so called directive is set to further cause problems in the state? Is it so simple as that to withdraw the cases from court?
What if PDP at the national level insist that the 27 are no longer with them?

Maybe we should keep watching events as they unfold.

By the way, thank God that all went well with Nairaland and they can keep growing.

I can't blame Sim for becoming simple but I blame the PDP that chose to be spectator, watching the casting or shooting of the movie than acting their scene.

They believe Sim belongs to NWPP (Nyesom Wike Political Party) and therefore neglected him instead of using the avenue to woo him to thier side. BAT carried out the move on their behalf and made it to favoured him and his party APC

This case is already before a competent law court. Presidency shouldn't have delve into it if they truly respect the judiciary.

This governor is gone, How can he sign this kind of agreement? To reinstate Wike's mole into the executive chamber. that shouldn't have happened, They resigned willingly.

It's a trap. If Simi Fubara actually signed those directives, then he's a cowaard.

According to Ghandi, Peace and only peace should be the only approach in conflict resolution.

Though sometimes war is the faster approach.

Some people bcoz of their ego will never accept peace at the earlier stage of escalation untill their wing(s) has/have been broken.
