HALLO !

I want you with any other person undergoing your present situation to be observant in some areas . 1. How many groups have you joined ? 2. How many people have you shared your emails with ? 3. Are you using an agent or did you pay anyone to assist you ?

I just want to hope that you have not received a scam emergency request approval email because i have not read or heard about what you have being experiencing before . I am not totally claiming that the error is not from the embassy probably because of too or large request over work but we also have to be guided .

Anyways . Your only solution is to call the CGI help line . They will ask you few bio data Questions and then verify your claim and rectify it.

HAVE A NICE DAY .
It is an error. I explained to them that this thing happened in July. It's like they're not even reading the thread.

Greetings All,
Any advice on how I can get an early appointment date for a b2 visa?

What are the steps to take if your DS160 intended travel date is reached before your appointment date?

Hi Everyone in the house please help.
I went for F-2 visa interview in Abuja on 18th of Dec and I am still in shock of why I was denied; my transcripts is as follows:
Me: Good morning Ma (VO window 10)
VO: Good morning, can I have your documents
ME: here ma!
VO: Why are you going to US
Me: My husband has been offered a phd admission to the University of Massachusetts, we've always been supportive of each goals and we believed this is an important phase that we should experience together.
VO: what would you be doing in the US?
Me: I understand F-2 visa holders are not eligible to work in the US, during my duration of stay, I would be there to support my husband physically and emotionally while he has the time to focus on his academic. I would volunteer for some services such as Survival center and food bank in the area. I will also enroll for some online courses.
VO: You will be staying for 3 years?
Me: Yes, I would be staying for 3 years because my husband has been there for about 2 years and would be done in 3 years time. When his done with his studies we would be coming back to Nigeria together.
VO: fully funded! (shake her head). Are you employed?
Me: I am self employed, with about 3 to 4 staffs working with me.
VO: do you have any child
Me: NO
VO: How long have you been married?
Me: we got married this Dec but we have been dating for more than 6 years
VO: pink paper. Sorry you are not eligible for this visa, you can always reapply at anytime.
Note that my husband has excess funding from his school that could support me and one child. I reapply immediately but still I haven't been able to get any date as I am waiting for my application to be approved (at least that what it says that I will get an email) while on my dashboard, its still saying my passport is still at the embassy/consulate. I am also thinking of switch from Abuja to Lagos this time around.
Please help, where do I get it all wrong please, I am so devasted RN

Hi Lawrence,

It's possible to renew your F-1 visa while on OPT. I did mine some months ago but you'll have to travel out of the US in order for the visa stamping. In my case, I went to Mexico for my visa renewal. Interestingly, I've always renewed mine in Central/South America as they only give 2 years visa to Nigerians. Here are couple of things:
1. If you're visiting a contiguous territory and/or adjacent island to the US, your visa should still be valid before entering the country as you'll need it for entry into that country e.g. Mexico.
2. You'll need to budget for flight and accommodation as the F-1 visa in Mexico is usually out within ~3-4 business days. It can take longer.
3. You'll have to pay visa fees as well.
4. Make sure your I-20 shows your approved OPT and the travel signature from your DSO is valid.
5. In my case, I was only asked two questions and I was approved. What I was doing in the US and explained my current role of my OPT. Your DS-160 needs to be filled out to reflect this.
6. If your trip outside the US is not crucial then you might want to consider just staying back for now.
7. Do your own research online. There are lots of plethora of resources available.
I hope I was able to answer your question.

Hey šŸ¤

In my little experience, as long as you are in status as an F1 student in the USA then your visa can expire if you don't plan to leave the United State. But if you travel out of the US then you will need to renew your visa before entering again.

1. The only document that must not expire is your Travel Passport (Nigeria passport) and you don't have to travel to Nigeria before you can renew your travel P. I think you can get that renewed in Washington or New York when your passport is about 6 weeks to expire .

2. If you want to travel to Nigeria because of your expired visa it's not necessary IF YOUR I20 & TRAVEL PASSPORT IS STILL VERY VALID .

3. if you want to come for Xmas , and New Year to have fun with family and friends then go ahead . You will enjoy the drop box (IW) policy .

Do not shake , your visa will be renewed because that's the appropriate thing to do .

Hey šŸ¤

I have forgotten your original question (s) but let me use my psychology.

Were you the one whose SEVIS payment was sent through USPS ? Have you email SEVIS with the snap picture of the coupon the payer sent to you ?

Anyways ...Let's even accept that everything has not materialized and your Host - University goes on holiday ....

1. Send an email to SEVIS ...I think you can also call SEVIS and narrate this ordeal .

2. Call or communicate with the payer . He or she can go back to the payment point and re verify what is happening.

3. Don't worry about school going on holiday or embassy going on holiday . WORK ON THE SEVIS FIRST .. you will get your emergency Appointment if you are a 1st timer don't worry

4. I want to think that the Xmas and New Year holidays won't denied prospective F1 visa applicants their emergency Appointment rights because the US embassy knows about large population of January resumptions .

Be positive and accept that God is preparing you for your appropriate time of favour and success . IF EVERYTHING WAS QUICK AND YOUR VISA HAD BEEN DENIED , WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE ?

Best Wishes šŸ™
I'm a first timer, I've payed my sevis fee but my emergency request was denied, why?

Hey šŸ¤

In my own observations, your condition and your answers are the undoing of your visa rejection . Your condition in the fact that you do not have kids together as hubby and wife , your official marriage is still very very young and Ties to Nigeria is like ZERO. Let's review your answers together ;

1.VO: Why are you going to US

Me:. My husband has been offered a PhD admission to the University of Massachusetts, we've always been supportive of each goals and we believed this is an important phase

****** THIS IS NEVER A GOOD REASON TO THE CO. YOU DID NOT EVEN STATE ANY EMOTIONAL POINTS. YOU DID NOT ANSWER WHAT THE CO ASKED U.

*****"". YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TELL THE CO THAT ..HE OR SHE KNOWS THAT YOU WILL EVENTUALLY CHANGE YOUR STATUS AND WORK BUT YOUR ANSWERS LOOKS LIKE A TRICK TO THE VO. YOU WANT TO START VOLUNTEERING FOR THE ENTIRE 3 YEARS šŸ˜„. CO WANTS YOU TO BE HONEST.

3. VO: You will be staying for 3 years?

Me: Yes, I would be staying for 3 years because my husband has been there for about 2 years and would be done in 3 years time. When his done with his studies we would be coming back to Nigeria together.

****** THE CONSULAR OFFICER WAS LIKE , YOU WILL BE STAYING FOR STRAIGHT 3 YEARS WITHOUT WORKING ? NO FAMILY OR KIDS OR SOMETHING TO COME AND VISIT AT HOME ? EVEN IF YOUR INTENTION IS GENUINE , OKAY YOU JUST WANT TO BE SITTING AT HOME VOLUNTEERING FOR THE WHOLE 3 YEARS ??

4. VO: fully funded! (shake her head). Are you employed?

Me: I am self employed, with about 3 to 4 staffs working with me.

********. CO SHAKES HER HEAD BECAUSE SHE WANT TO PASS A MESSAGE TO YOU SO THAT YOU WILL NOT GO BACK AND DO THE SAME ERROR. ...DID YOUR HUSBAND EVER VISIT NIGERIA SELF ? YOU WANT TO RELY ON THE FULLY FUNDED FUNDS ??

===============

*** I cannot give you a comprehensive advice here because many things might be hiding behind your rejection but the 85% reason i could deduced from your transcript above is your ANSWER .. YOU NEED TO BE TRAINED PHYSICALLY WELL ABOUT HOW TO GIVE A CONVINCING ANSWERS.

****** Work on what you will input about your bio-data in your DS 160 form .

******. Don't worry about the message YOUR PASSPORT IS STILL WITH THE EMBASSY on your dashboard, it will clear . That's the new style of the embassy because they are supposed to retain your passport before issuing you visa ... CHANGE TO ABUJA if you need to reapply asap.

Hey šŸ¤

1. You possibly did not do it in a right way because the embassy policy is equal -opportunity to all, except in the case of system error.

2. Normally, you should request for an emergency visa appointment within 60 days prior to your resumption. You might have requested for it at a later time when there is backlog of Applicants to attend to .

3. The embassy still understand that every student can defer his or her enrollment terms and request for new Form I 20 , therefore the possibility that they will not grant every student when they have large numbers of applicants is also high.

Do you still have the Emergency Appointment option on your dashboard ? If YES then you have high hope . If NO then there is no magic you can do than to defer your Admission.

Thanks for your response bro.

My plan is to travel with my family so i don't think Conference maybe a good option for emergency.
ArinzeAminuBOYS:

HALLO !

If it's tourism you may find it difficult to get approval for emergency Appointment because before the embassy approve your emergency Appointment you have to attach document on the portal and the document can entail invitation letter .

As someone going for tourism who will send an invitation letter to you ? Not even an ordinary letter , the letter must state that you must go for the tourism by all means and that if you don't come it will affect him or her . So tourism doesn't work for emergency like that . Change to conference or seminar or medical.

This your advise is totally misleading. How can you say that those pursuing MBA and Communication Studies will have hard time getting a visa?

You can't be giving this kind of advise in 2023.

And also, you can't be talking against having funding, except you don't want Nairalanders to be getting visa to study in America.

This your advise no jig at all, desist from giving them.
Cos MBA is a professional program and youā€™re required to pay out of pocket for it. Most Americans take loans to pay for it. And most Nigerian applicants are going to face stricter financial scrutiny by VOsā€¦ and they know that 95% of Naija bank accounts don't have N500k balanceā€¦ so how are you going to pay for MBA programs as intl students?

But in Naija, emotional answers are more rewarding to people in a predicament than logical and pragmatic answers.

I want to support @NewBoyKashoggi . He has given the appropriate answer . MBA is for professional people and in layman's term it is mainly for people who are working already and wants to develop on their career . It's not good for a straight out graduate who is supposed to be opting for MSc.

That being said , @BigIyanga, if Americans are taking loan or borrowing money to attend their great grandfather's tax paid created institutions , are Nigerians or Africans an Americans ? The VO or CO expects all Nigerians going to school in the US of A to have their money otherwise stay behind and go to UNILAG OR OAU or COVENANT UNIVERSITY. Any Applicant who sources for loans or put total hope in scholarship is not financially capable to study in the United States.

@BigIyanga , US embassy or the American government likes giving scholarships and awards to only very outstanding students whom they (the US government) don't care stayed behind after their studies. @NewBoyKashoggi is given a well-researched and correct answers . What about the students from THE NIGER DELTA who still gets funds from the Federal government while still studying in the US ? Why did not the US government covers the funds ? What about other private scholarships from RCCG OR WINNERS CHAPEL , DEEPER LIFE etc or other religious organizations that pays all scholarships funds in full to the US Institutions ? If you snag a US scholarship, it is guaranteed for a period of time and for the entire duration of your studies so long as you meet stipulated conditions in the contractual agreement.
Naija govt scholarship is inconsistent.. GEJā€™s beneficiaries were left stranded abroad. Same with GMBā€™s beneficiaries.. Likely to happen with BATā€™s beneficiaries. Scarcity of funds, strict FX policy, change in govt and corruption all play roles. Unfunded Naija scholarship is worth the same amount as the piece of paper itā€™s written on.

Assistantship to cover tuition, board and living expense?

Most assistantships cover tuition in full. Some provide for room and board. Most stipends you receive while working will typically cover the living expenses, you just don't need to spend recklessly.

The only thing most assistantships don't cover is health insurance and students fees, but those can only be paid from stipend since most assistantships offer subsidized health insurance.

You just have to be wise and apply to where the money is.

If you sabi your onion, US schooling won't stress you at all.
