Which African country produces the best music, Nigeria, Congo or South Africa?
I am qualified to answer this. I am Nigerian. I am African. I listen to good African music and have visited many African countries and listened to their music.

The best contemporary music in Africa comes from Nigeria. This is, by far, the wholesome truth with artistes such as Asa, Burnaboy, Rhema 2face, Whizkid, Davido, Tekno, PSquare, Olamide, Phyno, Waje, Kiss Daniel, Yemi Alade, Odumodu, Cohbams, Omahlay Timaya, etc. There are many generations of Nigerian artistes in many genres of music and contemporary music producers make the job of the artistes even easier. You cannot but mention producers such as Coublon, Don Jazzy, Mastercraft, Young John, etc. The DJs come in all shades and colours. Even billionaires are now proudly supporting their daughters to be DJs.

The best traditional African music comes from Congo DR. That, for me, only comes second to Ayinla Omowura’s core apala.

South Africans have good beats but it’s all beat and no song or dance. Dance steps are commonly misplaced and hardly match the great beats. Give those beats to Nigerians or Ghanaians and you will have a much better blend of music than what South Africans produce. Many times you spend the entire night on Florida Road or Umhlanga in Durban or on Rivonia on Deck or Sandton in Johannesburg and it’s all beat and no song. Bring on Sarkodie or from Ghana or R2Bees to those beats and you’ll dance till the dawn.
