On Tuesday (21-12-2023), I was having serious fever, so went to buy an over-the-counter malaria drug and one flu tablet. The lady chemist told me to use 4 tablets in the morning and 4 in the afternoon for the malaria drug, but for the Flu medicine, I should use 1 tablet in the morning and at night. I took 4 tablets in the afternoon that day. On the next day, which is Wednesday, I took 4 tablets making 8 tablets in total plus 1 Flu tablet, A few hours after I took that medicine, I felt a sharp pain in my left hear, after which the pain subsided.

I am Welder by profession, I went to work that same moment, at work, I was using a grinding machine to grind iron to make iron smooth, the machine makes noise, but this day, as I was grinding, I could feel something in my brain or inner ear bringing buzzing sound or noise into my ear, after grinding that iron, I couldn't ear anything, all I was hearing is just noise.

The next day, which is today Thursday, I could hear people speak but they have to be loud, and my ears can't tolerate noise at all.

To go hospital hard me because I no gallant because of the series of test they will have me run which will expend my money I don't have.

My question is to the learned health practitioners in the house, should I give it time for it to heal on its own or I should go to the hospital for doctor's opinion on the matter.

Attached are the medicines for your scrutiny, I hope it is not one of those fake drugs.

These symptoms usually go away once use of the medication has stopped.

How much did you pay for the antimalarial and how much for the flu drug? Antimalarial is usually to be 2 in the morning, 2 at night for three days making 12.

This is why I hate taking drugs. Some drugs kills you slowly but you don't know it. There were some drugs that the adverse and lifelong side effects were determined many years after their production, and were thereby banned from the market.

This malaria stuff is avoidable depending on your environment and if you use mosquito net.

The day I took paracetamol to wake up to swelling on my face was the last day I took anything medicine. It’s been over 7 years now.

The earlier you visit a doctor the better for u. There are 2 things u must do. 1.Discontinue using all the drugs because am not sure if the adverse drug reactions is as a result of both or one of the drugs. With time it can wear out.
2. Visit an ENT Doctor immediately.

I pray not, but if u don't take adequate measure now it can last u a life time.

it is not the anti malaria that blocked your hearing, it is the. Malaria itself that blocked your heating.. When malaria becomes too strinh and severe, it's final point is the brain, it mess up with the brain could even lead to seizures and hearing lost and una ale to taste anything, no forget say na Brian dey interpret sense organs for body which aids hearing also... I'm same light, the bacteria that causes typhoid when really severe the final point is your stomach and it will mess your system up, the constant severe stomach pain when ur kidneys aren't having issues or ur appendix is in good shape, severe untreated typhoid is what is causing it.... Y'all Should learn to listen to your body

If cost is the issue, go to a government hospital, FMC preferably.

Just go as early as possible to mitigate waiting for too long.

I thought you took Quinine or a drug containing quinine-like compound... The drug you took rarely causes middle ear blockage or issues.

An E.N.T specialist should be able to quickly handle your case.

No my friendo! grin grin grin Malaria tablet did not block your hearing. What you are suffering from is TINNITUS, go do your researches on Tinnitus, you said you are a welder and you use grinding machine those are what caused your tinnitus, you should have used ear plugs when using your machine.

And also serious fever or flu can cause Tinnitus. Tinnitus do not have any cure, some times it may go away after few weeks, days or even months and sometimes it will carry on permanent.

Tinnitus can cause partial hearing loss for few days, months or weeks and sometimes permanent deafness.

I have being suffering Tinnitus for 3 years now, i was in a music band as a drummer for 5 years i should have wore ear plugs but i didn't, i played in noisy nightclubs, I worked at noisy football stadiums for many years. i have had buzzing in my right ear everyday, every hour for 5 years now. When i first had Tinnitus i nearly cut my ear off due to the anxiety and paranoia i was having. Now i am living with tinnitus for 5 years now. It can only be managed but cannot be cured.
It wasn't the malaria tablets it was the noise from your machine and welding job that caused it, believe it or not.

Good luck.

It is not the drug, what he is suffering from is called Tinnitus! grin grin deafness from his welding job and grinding machine. Tinnitus can also be caused by after having heavy cold, malaria or flu.

Tinnitus has no cure it can only stop by it self after days, weeks or months and it can become a permanent.

The cause of my Tinnitus i was told it is as a result of being a drummer in a music band, noisy nightclubs i played at for many years as a DJ and i had a very heavy cold flu that same week i had buzzing and deafness in my right ear.

It cannot be cured but can be managed.

I know OP will start blaming village people or even conclude he bought fake drugs.

One thing I have noticed about Nigerians is that they ain't safety conscious......I have colleagues like that at work, even though educated some of them still behave like illiterates. To put on ordinary ear plug is a problem, they only do that whenever they sight safety officers on patrol.

I am very sure OP has never used an ear plug before, when you advice people like him they will say you're forming over sabi.

I have seen many roadside welders working with slippers instead of safety boot. 95% of them don't even wear coverall.

Going to the hospital doesn't automatically amount to the kind billing that you wouldn't be able to handle. Bro, if the symptoms persist, you just have to for your peace of mind sake.
And it's a good thing you exposed that drug to the public as a warning to others. Well, it might be that the drug isn't bad, it could just be your body reacting differently to it.
Almost the same thing happened to me some time ago when I was prescribed the drug, Prednisolone. I was having problems hearing clearly but wasn't permanent though. Ever since that experience, I don't go near that drug. It's an allergy to me

Based on what you wrote here you weren't using ear cover to block you ears while grinding on this one you have messed up.

Some anti malaria can give this clinging sounds in ear but will stop and during those times you don't need extra sounds like over louding your radio at home but you make the matter worse by not wearing ear cover while grinding which you know it can make hell of noise coupled with the already clinging sounds from the anti malaria drugs you took.

Bro that sound from grinder will make it take a little while before your ear will be clear, for now you can't use ear pods or headset or earphones or even to loud music on your radio at home, go to pharmacy and complian.

Never use grinder without earcover.
