Correct!! I have being living with Tinnitus now for nearly 5 years, it has not cure, I have being to ENT severally, they scanned my brain, nothing was found. Eventually i was told i have Tinnitus.

First week i had buzzing in my right ear i nearly cut my ear off, due to the anxiety and paranoia it caused me. grin grin

The cause of my Tinnitus i was told it is as a result of being a drummer in a music band, noisy nightclubs i played at for many years as a DJ and i had a very heavy cold flu that same week i had buzzing and deafness in my right ear.

It cannot be cured but can be managed.
Sorry dear. How can I be of help or add more to ya problems?
Maybe if I accelerate the total hearing loss?

Ur malaria drug may not be d curse of ur deafness...rather exposure to those noisy mechines u use over time could be the curse most welders over time become blind or deaf..it's not a good job but if u must do it adhere to all safety measure like wearing an earlid or good recommended dark shade

For this naija, if your fellow welders see you taking precautions by wearing all this safety gadgets, they will call you SIMP, they will say " he is not strong " . You can imagine.

I know OP will start blaming village people or even conclude he bought fake drugs.

One thing I have noticed about Nigerians is that they ain't safety conscious......I have colleagues like that at work, even though educated some of them still behave like illiterates. To put on ordinary ear plug is a problem, they only do that whenever they sight safety officers on patrol.

I am very sure OP has never used an ear plug before, when you advice people like him they will say you're forming over sabi.

I have seen many roadside welders working with slippers instead of safety boot. 95% of them don't even wear coverall.

It is not like that, Nigerians didn't invent welding works, it was taught to us by the colonial masters, does a slave or servant wear boots and helmets like his master? No! That's what these servants teach their apprentice when they too become bosses, and the cycle continue.

I love all this safety measures and gadgets, but your fellow welders will see you as a SIMP or WEAK PERSON.

They believe a man should be strong. Imagine my boss telling me that he never sicks, saying no matter the sickness, all he takes is paracetamol.

I know about some typhoid fever medication causing ototoxicity but never heard about malaria fever medication doing this. You need to see an ENT specialist fast. I know that usually if this happens to kids, most recover their hearing in a short time but I don't know about adults. This is why over the counter self-medication is not good. Or if you want to self-medicate, visit a good pharmacy like MedPlus and always ask first to speak to the pharmacist present. Also, if you work in an environment that has constant high decibel noise always use an ear protector. So sorry, I pray our Lord Jesus heals you.

You can't wait till 8th March guy. You have to go to a private clinic. Maybe speak to a Nairaland mod or Seun and get approval to appeal here to Nairaland for funds. This year economically is a terrible year for a lot of Nigerians but we will try our best for you.

On Tuesday (21-12-2023), I was having serious fever, so went to buy an over-the-counter malaria drug and one flu tablet. The lady chemist told me to use 4 tablets in the morning and 4 in the afternoon for the malaria drug, but for the Flu medicine, I should use 1 tablet in the morning and at night. I took 4 tablets in the afternoon that day. On the next day, which is Wednesday, I took 4 tablets making 8 tablets in total plus 1 Flu tablet, A few hours after I took that medicine, I felt a sharp pain in my left hear, after which the pain subsided.

I am Welder by profession, I went to work that same moment, at work, I was using a grinding machine to grind iron to make iron smooth, the machine makes noise, but this day, as I was grinding, I could feel something in my brain or inner ear bringing buzzing sound or noise into my ear, after grinding that iron, I couldn't ear anything, all I was hearing is just noise.

The next day, which is today Thursday, I could hear people speak but they have to be loud, and my ears can't tolerate noise at all.

To go hospital hard me because I no gallant because of the series of test they will have me run which will expend my money I don't have.

My question is to the learned health practitioners in the house, should I give it time for it to heal on its own or I should go to the hospital for doctor's opinion on the matter.

Attached are the medicines for your scrutiny, I hope it is not one of those fake drugs.

Hi Wisdom, Good Evening.
The bulk of research work may show that Artemether/Lumefantrine combination is free from the side effects of hearing loss, and the common drug that causes this is Quinine but a few studies have shown Artemether/Lumefantrine to also cause a loss of hearing. It is quite different from the way quinine causes its own and may only occur in a few persons. It may be triggered by extreme sounds and it is reversible.
Your antimalarial dose was normal for an adult. There are single tablets with the same strength too. You take them if you don’t want too many tablets. Your flu drug contains something that can make you feel sleepy and it’s not suitable for you to take it during working hours because you are operating machines.

Lastly, you should
1. When you are taking medications try to give yourself time to recover before you fully expose yourself to any harsh environment.
2. please get trusted brands of medicines at trusted Locations to avoid unnecessary wahala
3. See a doctor to make sure everything is okay.

It's side effect of antimalarial drugs. People react to it differently. It's not necessarily fake. Although this side effect is more common in quinine, however ACT( the one you took) can also be a culprit.
Symptoms became worse because of exposure to noise pollution.
Usually, it will resolve as days go by. But go see an ENT doctor if symptoms persist for more than 7 to 10 days.

You don't take malaria and Flu medication together. Either you treat Flu separately, or treat just malaria, ie, after you must have ran a test to be sure it's falciparum plasmodium, and number of ++.
Better not go to that patent medicine (chemist) store again. Just go to the hospital now before you lose your hearing completely.
A word is enough for the wise.

This same kind of thing happened to me and i'm deaf now for close to 10yrs, i want to give you tips based on experience and not as a professional.

1. Borrow money or even kill yourself to follow up with a specialist now, you will not have the chance Later

2. Don't take drugs again except a doc who is experienced in ear problem recommend it

3. Don't visit a pastor and allow them to put annointin oil in your ears. You are warned

4. Avoid advice from people especially those who will instruct you to put onions, honey, garlic etc if you do, start learning sign language now.

5. Don't visit jack-of-all-trade doctors, they will compound your problem, seek solution from a doctor who specialise in ear treatment. E get why
