Don't Borrow To Celebrate Christmas, Cleric Tells Nigerians

The Senior Pastor of the Bible Base Miracle Assembly, Nkpor-Agu, Idemili North local government area of Anambra State, Rev. Jerry Nwachukwu, has admonished Nigerians not to be desperate about what they will eat or what they will put on as clothing at Christmas.

The cleric said that Christmas is an event that will come and go, and that nobody should do what is not morally good in the name of celebrating Christmas, which he said, should be a period of reflection for the birth of the saviour of the world.

Rev. Nwachukwu gave the advice yesterday in his Christmas message, which was made available to newsmen in Onitsha.

He said, "If you don't have what it takes to travel to your village and come back, stay where you are. Manage yourself within the place you are. Don't borrow or steal to celebrate Christmas. It is an event, which will come and go.

"Don't buy clothes on credit because you want to show off or to impress people. Cut your coat according to your cloth; not according to your size. Rice, garri, fufu yam and others that you eat before Christmas are the same foods that you will still eat at Christmas. There are no clothes that bear or answer Christmas clothes. There are also no foods like that.

"Wear any cloth that you have, and don't give yourself headache. Remember that January carries its own responsibilities like payment of school fees and house rents etc."

He also counselled Nigerians to be security conscious as they travel for the festival.

"One thing that is paramount now is your personal safety and security. While traveling, don't pack your entire family in one vehicle, especially when you want to travel on public transit. Nobody prays for evil; but everyone has to be security conscious especially this festive season," he added.

Nwachukwu also urged Christians and all Nigerians to trace their steps back to God, and to take stock of themselves and their activities; saying that the key to excelling and succeeding as Christians is right standing with God - according to Issiah 54:14.

On the judgement of the Supreme Court that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will go back for trial in courts, Rev. Nwachukwu averred that he was not surprised at the judgement of the Supreme Court, as he was not expecting government of the Nigerian state to release the freedom fighter.

According to Nwachukwu, "I will tell Nnamdi Kanu and the entire people that believe in his vision that his freedom is in the hands of God - not in the hand of any government of today. Nigerian courts have given their own judgements, but I will tell you that there is a court above all the courts that have sat on Kanu's case; and when this court gives its own judgement, Nigeria and its government will be on their knees.

"Nnamdi Kanu and his supporters will wait for the supreme judgement. The judgement from the throne of God, which will come soon, and Kanu will be freed. Kanu should exercise patience; God will speak for him. I am not expecting the Nigerian government to free Kanu. The God of his race, which he is fighting for will stand up for him - and when it is time for him to be freed, no human being can withstand the pressure."

Should anyone be told that in the first place! Why borrow because of a day enjoyment when it's beyond ones income and then struggle for months as a result. Moreover, Christ is the reason for the season thus he would rather one does more of humility than chicken, rice, drinks, clubbing, etc.

Funny but true.

Na so one dude travelled to Benue 3 years ago for Christmas and got stranded after spending all he had in the village.

I borrowed him his T-fare back to Lagos. Till now he never refund me nor talked about it. Not that I had the intention of collecting it back anyway.

Is the advice needed?
If it's necessary to borrow, borrow and enjoy the moment but most importantly, trust GOD for provision and be guided by His Spirit.

Also, lend a helping hand to those around you in need especially those you know you ought to put smiles on their faces. If you have more than enough, be a blessing to others who expect to receive from you.

Givers are always rewarded especially giving to put smiles on others.
