HALLO !

Your narative was kinda funny in the beginning but it is a very very an eyes opener one. Thank God that his secret was later revealed to you .

They are many on this platform , some will claimed they have US visa and presently living in the United States . Some will claimed their sisters and mothers are US residents that's why they are the experts . They will go online and register virtual US phone numbers in order to back up their fake visas .

They usually forced you to join date search groups or WhatsApp mock interview groups so that they will be able to toss you around within such group and bill you exorbitant amount of money. Yet , they will be here in the open platform cursing travel agents not knowing that they are cursing themselves.

It is necessary sometime to seek the assistance of experts because not everyone will have the time of do it yourself but open your eyes and be certain that what the person is doing is genuine . There are lot of genuine individuals on Nairaland at the same time there are lot of counterfeit ones.

Thank you for sharing this info .

HAVE A NICE DAY .

Dear Sophia,
Yes, the person that you replied you is correct. Don't fall to some persons who came to this platform just to rip people off their money in the promise of getting them appointment date.
I fell victor to one guy who first claimed he is a student was refused, but he got a date so easily thereafter and then, when I inquired deeply he directed me to another person to contact, which later become the same person seems correct.

I was refused visa on July 31, 2023 Lagos Consulate and deferred to Spring 2024, and looking for date and fell victim to this guy. My dad has this guy name, account number he sent to us and account name and if my dad wants to setup and arrest him, it is very easy, but my dad told me and my friend, that we should forget about that guy because he did not put gun to threaten us to pay me neither did he force us to send him the money, only he capitalized on my impatience to rip small money out of my dad.

I said we should bring N250,000 and i told my dad my dad sent him N75,000 first to get a date. First he claimed he is a student and was denied as well but got new appointment with ease within one month of his denial. So, we though he could be waking up every hour night and day to be checking date. We fell victim. He even told my Dad that he is working with the US Embassy in Nigeria, which my dad rebuked him as my dad told us (me and my friend).

Anyway, to cut the story short, I gave him my password to my booking portal after my dad sent him the 1st N75,000. But what me and my friend discovered, that he switched to the US Embassy Abuja in my booking portal and then selected ''visa not refused within the past 12 months'' instead of visa refused within the past six months''. and then he switched back to the US Consulate Lagos portal. If you are refused visa within six months and you purchased another visa fee and try to get a date you will keep seeing '' no available appointments now'' until after six months, then the dates will show, but if you select the option of ''visa not refused in the past 12 months, you will see dates showing up.

My friend was surprised why did this guy change to ''visa not refused in the past 12 months''. we told my dad and my dad called him and he denied that he is not the one that did that. He is the next person that has the password. So, we changed it and left it again, and he told my dad that he will still get us a date within 5 business days, then 3 business days passed and yet not date and he is just checking to see if December 28, 2023 will come up for me (with the status as ''visa not refused in the past 12 months'') so he can book and get us the date within late December 2023 and then demand for the balance from my Dad. But you know the consequence and penalty for false selection of an option and even though he has booked the date, it may be possible that appointment may be cancelled and then I get a new fee and who knows whether they may even ban me for the next two years with my passport and records not to book visa appointment again. My fiend advised that we change my password and then ask my dad to call him and tell him to forget in order not to put me into trouble and that N75,000 my dad sent to him is a waste.

We do not blame him, but myself because of impatience. So, I decided to put this information so that other people in this panel will learn. I am sure after January 31, 2024, my portal will be opened for dates for me to book for Fall 2024 intake. I am already deferring my admission to the FAll 2024.

I think others in this platform should learn not to fall into the hands of dupes because of impatience.

Thank you all.

Thank you for sharing your bad experience. Most of us here… have been advising applicants not to use 3rd and 4th party agents….but it’s not usually well received by gullible and lazy applicants .. and sleazy agents.

Why don’t you ask the question here?

Here’s the question;

I recently came to Nigeria from the United States to renew my F1 Visa. The visa was renewed on December 1st and I graduated from my Masters program from my old school on December 15th. I was supposed to be resuming in Spring 2024 to a new school that already issued me an i20 for my PhD. However, I can’t travel out of Nigeria at this time to resume my study due to health reasons which will be resolved by January. By that time, I can no longer travel and the i20 will be cancelled as a result.

I have already made steps to defer my admission in the new school so that I can attend by Fall. The question I have is that can I still use my renewed F1 visa to enter the United States with a new i20 given to me by this particular school or another school entirely? Or I’ll need to apply for a new visa using i20 from a new school or from the school that I’ve already transferred my SEVIS into?

Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by JohnZak: 6:16pm On Dec 26, 2023
Sorry about your health. I hope you feel better soon!

The first thing is to ensure that your application for deferral is approved. It should not take long. The decision is typically immediate. Once the deferral has been approved, the International Student office will issue a new I20 with corrected dates. The I20 number, school code etc will be the same so your SEVIS record will not change other than dates of enrollment. Since you already have a visa that was issued to you using the old I20 information, the name of the school and all other information on your visa will also remain the same. You can return to the US in Fall 2024 with the updated I20 using the old visa. Make sure that you go with email correspondence between you and your school showing your request for a deferral and approval of your request. Also go with a letter from your physician briefly describing the health condition that kept you away from school till Fall 2024. These documents may come in handy at your POE if you are asked. Folks defer their admission all the time without issues, typically for as much as a year after admission offer.

Your F1 visa is attached to a particular school. If your renewed F1 visa is for the Spring 2024 school, then this should not be a problem even if you defer your admission. You can't use your renewed F1 visa meant for school A to enter the US in order to immediately attend school B if the DSO in school B does not update your SEVIS records because of a SEVIS record mismatch.

Updated: On second thoughts, i re-read your post in more detail and i have a couple of questions. You indicated that you came to renew your F1 visa. This visa was renewed on Dec 1, but you did not graduate until Dec 15. That suggests to me your visa was renewed based on the I20 for the school where you graduated with a masters degree.

You then said that you were to resume in spring to a NEW school (not the school from which you recently graduated?) that has issued you an I20.

If the above is true, then no, you cannot travel using the renewed I20 because it is tied to the school where you recently graduated from. You will need a new visa for the NEW school that issued you an I20, or any other school.

Best of luck and hope you get better soon.

Exactly. You’re right. I renewed my visa (approved on December 1) with i20 from the school where I graduated with a Ms degree (graduated December 15) hoping that I can definitely travel before dec 15 using old school i20, or travel after December 15 using my new school i20 for a PhD ( visa is till valid this way cuz my SEVIS ID hasn’t changed. It was merely transferred to the new school). But now that my circumstances have changed, I was confused as to whether I can travel with the visa by Fall if they approve my defferment ( the school is on break right now so I’ve not heard back from them concerning deferment) or I’ll need another visa to travel to this new school, or in fact, another school at all that issue me an i20 in case this other school can’t retain my funding.

Meaning that if I, indeed, get offer from a new school (different from the school I was meant to attend this spring), I’ll need another visa since SEVIS ID is now different. I transferred my SEVIS to this particular school I was supposed to attend by Spring. If I could get them to transfer the SEVIS to a new school (in case the department isn’t able to retain my funding till Fall), would I still need another visa in this case? I’m clear about the first part where I’ll need another visa to a new school by Fall.

Likewise, since I’m not able to enroll, the school DSO need to do “early authorised withdrawal “ for me so I can be able to come back with ease.

Hello,

I'm about booking a flight to USA on a F1 visa. The cheapest I'm seeing requires a stopover in London (Heathrow airport). The site is saying I may need a transit visa.

Would I truly need it?

If yes, let me change my path then.

Thanks.

Hey 🤠

Sorry this is coming late but i have answered this kind of question of recent . But for the benefit of others ....

1. The next thing you are supposed to do is to fill another DS 160 so that your new Travel Passport number would be indicated in the new DS 160.

2. After that, login into your CGI profile and click on update profile , input the new DS 160 number as well as your new Passport number and click save.

3. Log back into your CGI page after 48 hrs to print out another Visa Appointment letter . The appointment letter would have auto-update itself which will display your new passport number as well as your new DS 160 number .

PS: The above is what you are supposed to do naturally . But if there is no time then call the CGI help line .

Best Wishes 🙏

Hey 🤠

I want you to believe that the airline website will not deceive would be -travellers , therefore you very likely will need a transit visa . Call the airline in order to have the best information at hand .

1. But naturally , as a Nigerian , you will typically need to obtain a Transit Visa to pass through the UK on your way to another country.

2, And to be eligible for a transit visa, you must be in transit to another country with sufficient funds and the intention to travel to a third country (USA).

3. I don't think that Nigeria is part of the Direct Airside Transit Visa (DATV) Agreement:  If Nigeria is covered by the DATV system, then you may be able to transit the UK airside without a visa.

Best Wishes 🙏

Hi bioemmy,

First of all, congratulation for your F1 visa success.

Though, I have not traveled to the US before and I hope to travel to the US for the Fall 2024 intake if I am granted a student visa, from my dad experience, I asked him if you need a transit visa, he said since you have a US visa (student or visitor) and passing through the UK, you don't need any transit visa if:

a) You are not checking out of the airport (Heathrow), you don't have any problem. He said you should ensure you have your next connecting flight from Heathrow airport to your US destination city if you are been asked by the UK immigration at the airport, tell them you are not embarking or checking out of the airport and that you are heading to the boarding gate to wait for boarding to your US destination city. He said you don't have any problems or issues even though your waiting time before boarding to the US inside the UK Heathrow airport is 6 hours. He said the UK authority respects US visa. He said don't ever attempt to try to check out of the airport.

As a matter of fact, he said if you land at the airport, after disembarking from the aircraft and at the check point, tell the UK immigration officers that you need direction to the boarding gate for so and so airport (the one you already have in your flight schedules and they will tell you the boarding gate to proceed to). He said you should ensure that the travel agent that is booking your flight should have your luggage picked up at your US final city destination and not from the UK airport to check in again your luggage.

He said you will need UK transit visa if you are going out of the UK airport and entry inside the UK even though for 5 minutes and coming back to the airport to onboard your next flight to the US, you will need UK transit visa. But he said in your case, you don't need UK transit visa since you are heading to US and with a valid US visa.

Also, he advised that your travel agent should ensure that your ticket is booked together all the way from Nigeria to the city/state in the US where your school is located. If your final destination or last stop city/state in the US is different from the city/state where your school is located, you may have issues with the US Custom and Boarder patrol officers that may subject you to intense questioning and scrutinizing. If you have two tickets, one is from Nigeria to UK and to say to New York where you will have US immigration clearance, but your school is in Chicago (Illinois), just ensure that your travel agent booked a local flight from New York to Chicago and you should have this second ticket handy to show the US Custom and Boarder Officer at the Airport, because they may ask you your final destination, which is Chicago and you have the ticket as well that says the aircraft will be leaving in 5 hours time and you will start boarding in 4 hours time. You are good to go.

We have a family friend to my Dad who traveled with his wife and daughter this December to the US and he and his wife and small daughter were granted student visas (F1 and two F2s) for he is a PhD student. He traveled from Abuja to Frankfurt (Germany) (without going out of the airport) with no German or Schengen transit visa) and then from Frankfurt to Houston (Texas) and from Houston to Gulfport, Mississippi, all journey was smooth and no issue.

He said you don't have any issue, you are good to go and he said if your travel agent is knowledgeable, your travel agent will know this that as long as you are not going out of the UK airport to fling around before coming back to board your next flight to the US, you don't need a UK transit visa. UK respect US Visa, whether student or visitor/business visa. But they don't respect other African countries visa to transit to other countries via the UK without a UK visa or transit visa.

Good luck for your trip.
Thank you all.

Hello, try Wakanow. Download the application from the Google Play Store and look for a direct flight that doesn't require a transit visa; if possible, avoid flights that'll have a stopover in Europe. All the best!
