If a protest has the potential to threaten public peace then no govt will allow it.
Before you protest you get permission from the authorities to provide adequate security in place to protect lives and properties.
Emergency services need to be put in place for those who suffer from exhaustion

That is what happens in real democracy

Given the recent history of the particular place where there was bloodshed during a protest, only an irresponsible govt will allow such to go ahead when a few months before there was a major confrontation

Governance is different from activism, where you seek to destroy and burn things down

Recently one lady was asking Sanwo-Olu about Mohbad forensic test and Sanwo-Olu told her that the lab which govt spent billions on was burnt down during endsars. Which responsible govt will wait for another burning down of infrastructure that's not even enough in the first place

In a true democracy there are laws guiding protests

You may not:
Block access to sidewalks or buildings
March in the streets without a permit
Disrupt counter-protests
Engage in speech that is obscene, makes knowingly false statements of fact, or that is likely to incite an immediate disruptive or dangerous disturbance

Remind us again how people’s peace was threatened with the protest

Like I said earlier , u can try to spin it but it is what it is .

Maybe u are not familiar with the Nigerian constitution as regards the right to protests and prevented cases , but I am .

Check sections 38-41 of the Nigerian constitution , the right of citizens to a lawful peaceful protests is entrenched therein. There’s even an appeal court case involving IGP V. ANPP (2008) 12 WRN 65 which held “certainly in a democracy, it is the right of citizens to conduct peaceful processions, rallies or demonstrations without seeking and obtaining permission from anybody. It is a right guaranteed by the 1999 constitution and any law that attempts to curtail such right is null and void and of no effect.”

Nigeria is a country that pretends to practice democracy but in actual sense is a jungle where the strong prey on the weak .

The police/government’s job is to ensure the protest is not hijacked by non-state actors , it’s not to preempt violence and deny the citizens their fundamental human right .

How can the police ensure the protest is not hijacked when they are not informed or told the protesters they have adequate personnel to man the protest ground? There is a reason why in the democracy you reference, they get permits before protests

In that same location there was a serious protest a fee months earlier which led to bloodshed, so which govt will repeat the same error again

I see you mentioned US as an example in your earlier post, below is an example of what happened in US regarding protests recently

You block road and restrict others from movement, you are infringing on their right to movement

A similar protest in the same location has led to breakdown in law and order some months before. So which responsible govt will wait for a repeat

I just quoted an appeal court judgement which actually law as of today since there’s no judgment from a court of higher jurisdiction overruling it. U don’t need to obtain any permission from anyone to organize a protest in Nigeria .

The position of Sanwoolu and the commissioner of police in Lagos as at the time of the June 12 protest is illegal in the face of the law .

Simple !

Every other thing is just shalaye that sells in a jungle like Nigeria .

This is what the law says

Under the Public Order Act (Cap P42) Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 S. 1(1)(2) of the Public Order Act.
S.1 of the Act empowered the Governor of each state to direct the conduct of all assemblies, meetings, and processions on the public roads or places of public resort in the State and prescribe the route by which and the times at which any procession may pass.

S.2 states that any person who is desirous of convening or collecting any assembly or meeting or of forming any procession in any public road or place of public resort shall, unless such assembly, meeting or procession is permitted by a general license granted under subsection (3) of this section, first make application for a license to the Governor not less than 48 hours.

Sanwo-Olu is the governor of Lagos state, Did he authorize the said June 12 protest?
The first duty of the governor is to maintain law and order in the state and resist anything that threatens law and order

Thats why there is always a difference in activism and governance. Activists are not accountable to anyone, Governors are accountable to the citizens of the state to protect lives and properties

You mentioned US as the model democracy, I gave you examples of what applies in this US now it has become shalaye. Abi US sef don turn jungle?

Macaroni and some people decided to go to the Lekki toll gate to protest against reopening the toll gate after a decision was made by the Judicial panel to reopen the toll gate

But the young Nigerians, under the aegis of #EndSARS Season 2 and #OccupyLekkiTollgate, vowed to defy the government’s order.

The other group, #DefendLagos withdrew from the protest, noting that it was in accordance with the government’s directives that no protest should hold.

The #EndSARS Season 2 and #OccupyLekkiTollgate said their action was informed by the decision of the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry allowing the Lekki Concession Company to reopen the Lekki tollgate.

impunity is to speak against breakdown of law and order? Those who lost lives and properties in the Toll gate protest shey you or Macaroni go compensate them?

No be the same govt go still fix all the infrastructures with taxpayers money. Say 50M structure destroyed by protesters, taxpayers money will be used again to rebuild the same thing

How is it an offense to stage protest anywhere?
Did they disturb other civilians peace or destroy anything?
What right does a governor have to stop a protest?

You mean what right does a Chief Security Officer of a state have to secure the state especially after witnessing violent riots which disrupted the security of the state few months earlier?

When the result of the breakdown in law and order comes you still blame the govt who warned you not to in the first place

Macaroni went to protest at toll gate when the state was still recovering from previous destruction at the same location despite warning not to

But you have clarified that it was Samlarry doing all the blocking and destruction of state infrastructure
