Good day friends and trust we are coping with the current state of things

I plan to resign from my current job by the end of February 2024 so that I can go into full time agriculture. That's my discipline from school anyway.

I've been able to raise just 1 million naira within a year and 2 months and the plan is to plant cassava and maize on a 12 acre farmland I'm about to secure.

6k per acre of land

I also plan to use about an acre for planting pepper and tomatoes.

I hope I'm not making a hasty decision by resigning from my job soon.

What location
What is the market demand for what u want to plant
Can u plant 6 acres without the help of workers?
What plan do u hv to preserve excess harvest.
Don't end up like my friend that reared chicken and after maturity had no one to sell to and he sold out the poultry at give away price.

Thanks for the reply.

First of all, there is high demand for the produce I intend planting.
Secondly, I'm planning to use workers for the majority of the work. Labour is relatively cheap here and there are plans for post harvest preservation and probably processing.

Assuming you planted the cassavas..it will take months for them to be harvested. So how will you feed and take care of your bills during the period of waiting?

So I'd suggest you continue with your job while engaging in the farming till your crops are harvested so you can be able to pay your bills.

Wait when you start the farming, you will need to wait it out till harvest time.
What do you intend to be eating before then?

You will need funds to be taking care of some farm expenses too.
You can keep your job and do the farming side by side

Hope you realize that 1 million is not a lot of money, you probably end up looking for another job in no distant time.

A lot of workers are currently on this Table.

Make use of your remaining limited time in this nation before it's too late.

Most of the cooperate office in Nigeria is filled with demons using people as SLAVEs.

Make sure you already have another job before resignation oooo.
Re: Planning To Resign From Current Job by Hezzyluv: 10:15am On Dec 26, 2023
For me ooo... the fact you could gather or save the sum of 1million in this present Nigeria economy within 14months, it not totally a bad job. On the other hands, it's the person who wears the shoe that knows where it pains sha.

My take, why not start the agriculture while still doing the work if you can, you could get trusted hands to help u oversee it. When it looks promising more then the work, you can resign and face it squarely.

Do it part-time this year while keeping your current job. If it goes well then you can resign next year and go into full time farming.

Depends on your current renumeration from your job...

In this present economy, any job not giving you at least 200-500k monthly is poverty.

Don’t resign. Set-up a proxy system for the new business has best as you can and create time to supervise atleast once a week.

Use your salary to keep nurturing the business until it makes more than your salary.

Nice one. Where is your location.

Agribusiness of such scale will swallow that 1mil you have.
Keep your job and undertake the venture by the side. Employ a farm manager and set out performance targets while you carry out an oversight function periodically.

Please don’t trade a known for the unknown. Atleast not at the embryonic stages.

Best wishes.

I usually look at some of you who said they don't have job.

If you see some Job, You will eventually run. Most jobs in Nigeria are created to take away your peace of mind and make your life more miserable.

why not start the planting, maybe go through a farming cycle, straighten up the experience kinks, then see how you feel.

I know it can be bothersome to work for some people or an organization sometimes, but one or two cycles of farming will give you the information you need. You might end up doing another thing after you figure your scenarios a little better.

on another note, if you think you can weather the storm then maybe it's a viable choice.

Either way, goodluck to your endeavors.
