Lagos still working with Tinubu’s 20-year blueprint – Sanwo-Olu
28th December 2023

By Samuel Bolaji

The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday, praised President Bola Tinubu for creating “the origin of modern Lagos,” adding that to date, the state is still running on the developmental ‘blueprint’ that Tinubu designed about 20 years ago.

Sanwo-Olu, who made the declaration when he played host to the President at the Lagos House, Marina, on Wednesday, also thanked Tinubu for accepting to represent Lagos at the federal level.

“We want to thank you for your leadership. We want to thank you for the origin of modern Lagos that you created and started for us. But more importantly, we want to thank you that you accepted to go (and) represent Lagos at the federal level.

“I want to thank you because indeed you have continued to do this state proud as an indigene, as a son of the state.”

While appreciating the President for providing leadership for the State Executive Council, the governor stressed that his administration was building on the legacy established by Tinubu.

He said, “Let me thank you on behalf of the 43 members of the State Executive Council for shaping us, for working with us, for directing us, and for always ensuring that that legacy, that blueprint that you worked on, that I was privileged to have worked on with you over 20 years ago, that is still a living document that we’re working with. It’s still a life document that will continue to ventilate and speak to and realise the yearnings of Lagosians.

“Just to mention, early this month, one of your setups at that time, LAMATA, was 20 years old on the 5th of December. This was a creation of yours 20 years ago.

“LAMATA has moved beyond just being a Lagos story. It has moved beyond an African story. LAMATA is a worldwide story. LAMATA is now referenced as one of the foremost transportation, and urban transportation infrastructures in the world.”

“I want to thank you for your leadership because we still have the working document that you have bequeathed to us,” he added.

In his response, Tinubu thanked the governor and his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, “for holding the fort strongly and committing yourself to the value that you cherish together.”

He added, “Lagos was not easy for many of you, but you went through it and today, Lagos State is the most viable state in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Many of today's Yoruba-haters and their Yoruba-hating parents who now see and covet Lagos today were nowhere when our state and the whole of Yorubaland was under seige and vicious selective punishment by successive Federal Military Government because our illustrious son, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, GCFR, won a credible and fair Presidential election.

They were still in their primitive villages envying and hating the highly sophisticated and organized Yoruba when our state was sabotaged and brought to its knees, filled with filth, bomb blasts, our Yoruba leaders being assassinated on our Lagos streets and in their homes in Ibadan, Abeokuta etc, idi-araba OPC wars successive Lagos military administrators could not solve but Tinubu solved , our Lagos central business district with eye-popping skyscrappers made a ghost town by a vindictive FG throughout the 90s revived with massive infrastructure renewal, abandoned FG Bar beach with its coastal erosion taking over Victoria Island and chased businesses out of VI until Tinubu took it from FG to fix it and birthed the vision of today's iconic Eko Atlantic city, every June 12 anniversary, they mocked us for marking the day while many of them and their parents, especially the Igbo, flee Lagos to their villages never to return until we rebuilt our city. https://m.facebook.com/OnuIgbo/photos/a.169328666819123/1490688431349800/?type=3

They were not trooping to Lagos then. They didn't remember then that Lagos should be a collective Federal responsibility but abandoned our Lagos for us. Now they want to reap after we have rebuilt our city.

Even our universities were not spared then! University of Lagos ULSU under Olusegun Maiyegun , Omoyele Sowore and their University of Lagos Students Union (ULSU) aluta Comrades and successors were hounded and all SW universities that are still today's ivy league universities of Nigeria and Africa like University of Lagos(UNILAG) ,University of Ibadan(UI) and Obafemi Awolowo University(OAU) were starved of funds by FG with armoured tanks and fierce gun-totting soldiers permanently stationed at our universities gates because our brilliant Yoruba students and intelligentsia including the likes of Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka then overseas were actively supporting the June 12 struggles and powering the pirate radio station. Bayo Onanuga and his warriors doing guerilla journalism with Tempo Magazine, TheNews, Tell etc. Late Ibadan-based muslim cleric, Ewi exponent and human right activist Adepoju dishing out Yoruba ronu protest messages.

They abandoned us and even moved the capital to Abuja and abandoned huge liabilities of dilapidated decaying infrastructures behind. We suffered while they mocked us. Out of all the ruins, we remained unbowed, hungry for success to defend our rich history and led by Asiwaju Tinubu to build back our city and Yorubaland. We built our own deep seaport, Lagos free trade zone, roads, bridges, railways, multi-modal transport systems, teaching hospital, waste management system , security architecture, brought Nigeria's 1st GSM telco, Econet, to Nigeria, upgraded to a knowledge-based performance-driven efficient professional civil service etc and we are grateful to God and everyone. We are grateful to our parents and Yoruba leaders who toiled and suffered to defend our educational system and progressive Omoluabi culture in Yorubaland and sent us to the top schools.

We are grateful for the blessing of having a great, competent, brilliant, visionary and hardworking leader in Asiwaju Tinubu. We will never forget other Nigerians like Chief Frank Kokori of NUPENG, Bagauda Kalto, Chima Ubani, Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu, Dr. Bala Usman , Nosa Igiebor and others who were part of the June 12 struggle led by Late Chief MKO Abiola, GCFR.

Thank you Asiwaju Tinubu. God bless you sir.
May God continue to bless Lagos, Yorubaland and the rest of Nigeria. Awa la ni eto oselu.Check my signature for free stuffs!

After governing for eight years, the only blueprint Tinubu built was a conduit pipe from the coffers of Lagos state Treasury to his personal company Alpha Beta milking the entire common wealth of Lagosians

Why?
Former FCT
Port
International airport
Industrial hubs
Above are not established by Tinubu. Tinubu is a neo-emperor not a democratic.
What make him think his idea is the best?

Mr President needs to be hearing the true current state of affairs of the common man on the street, not all these praise-singing that will make him lose touch with reality on ground.

Lol.. If Sanwo his claiming blueprint, he better not forget that Omo Ita and those huge refuse dump is part of the blueprint. grin
Tinubu hijacked AD political structure to front his selfish agenda, and he was lucky to achieve his agenda because of the loyal selfish lot he surrounded himself with. Many of them today are governors, ministers and national assembly members. SW states that was leading in human and infrastructural development now only boast of payment of salary.

Lagos State, Nigeria has a larger economy than 46 out of 54 countries in Africa with a GDP of $101.08 billion.

It was $145.141 billion in 2016.

If Lagos State were a country, it would be the eighth largest economy in Africa.

Blueprint my foot! When one speaks, miscreants come out in masses to attack. They said "Lagos has money more than a full country, and I believe them, but in comparison, they only do that with Aba, Ogun, Okposi, owerri, PH and not with the countries they have money more than. This same Lagos is the smallest state and yet not all the roads are tarred even with a solid blueprint.

A typical African has a mental issue.
