Dear Obi,

Thank you for your feedback. On Aburi, you may want to consider the following facts.

When Major General Aguiyi-Ironsi abrogated regionalism and promulgated Decree Number 34 on May 24, 1966, which effectively ended regionalism, took control of all resources, including oil (all resources, including oil used to belong to the regions before Ironsi's decree), which had hitherto belonged to the regions, and domiciled them in his military government. Other members of the Supreme Military Council alleged that Ironsi did not consult them before promulgating the decree. It is not known if their allegation is true. However, Ironsi's Attorney General, Chief Gabriel Chike Michael Onyiuke, later said Ironsi did not need to consult them.

Also, perhaps naively, ALL of Ironsi's advisers were Igbo, like him. They included Chief Francis Nwokedi, Dr. Pius Okigbo and Colonel Patrick Anwunah. Calls for him to appoint at least one token non-Igbo fell on deaf ears.

That decree ignited the counter-coup of July 29, 1966, in which Ironsi was killed and replaced with Lt. Colonel Yakubu Gowon, who did not participate in the coup but was a compromise candidate since he was a Northerner, to appease the North and a Christian, to placate the South.

All Military Governors accepted him except Ojukwu. Eventually, the then Ghanaian military leader, General Ankrah, invited Gowon and Ojukwu for a peace meeting in Aburi, Ghana, between January 4-5, 1967. Agreements were reached, including that Gowon would broadcast first, AFTER CONSULTATIONS, followed by Ojukwu.

However, upon return, Ojukwu made his broadcast first, which shocked other regions and jeopardised Gowon, who was almost removed by those who made him Head of State. Please note that Gowon had no control of troops. He was, at that time, just a titular Head of State. The real power was domiciled with Colonel Murtala Muhammed until Murtala was militarily humiliated by the Biafrans at Abagana on March 31, 1968, after which Gowon relieved him of his command, and Colonel Obasanjo later became the darling of Gowon due to his military effectiveness against Biafra.

You must understand that at that time, Ojukwu had full dictatorial powers in Biafra, but Gowon was hanging on a rope in Lagos.

As a result of Ojukwu's broadcast, Gowon issued Decree Number 8, and later, on May 27, 1967, broke Nigeria into 12 states. That decree would NEVER have been passed were it not for Ojukwu's broadcast.

Ojukwu rejected both actions, and declared the Republic of Biafra on May 30, 1967, which ignited a police action by Gowon's government on July 6, 1967. Things degenerated into war, which did not end until Biafra's defeat on January 15, 1970, after Ojukwu fled on January 11, 1970.

The war may have been prevented if Ojukwu broke away with only the East Central state, which was homogeneously Igbo. However, he insisted on the whole of Eastern Nigeria, which included non-Igbos in Calabar and Rivers, whose leaders, like Isaac Boro and Ken Asari-Wiwa, rejected Biafra.

Even within Biafra, prominent Igbos, like Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, did not support Ojukwu's actions. They felt that a diplomatic solution could be reached. But after Colonel Ojukwu began executing his friends, like Major Emmanuel Ifeajuna, Colonel Victor Banjo, Philip Alale, and Sam Agbam, amongst others, for treason, they all kept quiet and began plotting to escape Biafra.

This is why Nnamdi Azikiwe escaped from Biafra and turned up in Lagos in 1969, sitting beside General Gowon, declaring support for the Federal Military Government and condemning Colonel Ojukwu, who he blamed for the deaths of millions of Biafrans.

If Colonel Ojukwu had only waited for Gowon to broadcast after Aburi, there would likely have been no war.

Thanks again, and may God bless you.

And Nnamdi Kanu and Simon Ekpa are still making the same mistake by refusing to limit their Biafria agitation to just the Igbos and their lands. Before Kanu was locked up, he was lumping Rivers state into his Biafria dream. Ekpa is even taking a step further by lumping Kogi and Benue into his Biafria project.

You are obviously scared that IGBOs are waking up people in the middle-belt. Why are you afraid of the alliance?

It's obvious that FULANi will conquer all YORUBA land in less than 5yrs of sustained massacres.

Free IGBOs and this your Worthless obsession passed down by the RAT POISON drinker called Awolowo. cheesy

Reno is either painfully ignorant or one huge fat liar concerning this issue.

Yes there was an agreement reached in Accra and no it was not ojukwu that broke the agreement. It was Gowon who after returning to Nigeria told those who asked that there was an agreement but he lied about the specifics of that same agreement.

Okukwu confronted him about the discrepancies in his rendition of their agreement signed in Ghana to the Nigerian people but gowon said there was nothing of such between them. Gowon stood his ground concerning the twisted tales he brought back to tell his government about the aburi accord even when a few people who were present at the discussion pointed out his lies to him.

This forced ojukwu to go back to retrieve a copy of the meeting in accra which he clandestinely recorded (nobody present at the aburi accord meeting knew they were being recorded by ojukwu) and he went to broadcast the meeting on national radio for all the citizens of Nigeria to listen to thereby bursting Gowons claim that his own version of the aburi accord agreement was true.

That move by ojukwu playing the full recording to the Nigerian people exposed Gowon for the liar that he was and thereby sparked outrage within the then Eastern region plus other people from surrounding regions who stood on the path of truth also berated Gowon for lying nonchalantly to the country. Gowon then became restless and ashamed of what he had done thereby prompting him to divide and create more regions in order to douse the rising tension created from the fallout of his white lies to the nation.

Reno Omokiri should sit down with elderly people in his village and ask questions. How dare him twist such important history just because he wants to gain political favor from the present government.

Unless he spoke from a point of ignorance I believe this guy has very bleak ulterior motives for his recent behaviour on social media and should be cautioned properly before he causes something he can not control.

The only reason charlatans like Reno remains relevant in this country is the unjustifiable hatred for igbos.
I hope people from his ethnicity and those hailing him to keep insulting igbo leaders, their culture and traditions will be understanding when any igbo person does the same to any ethnic group in Nigeria.

Well, most Igbos have been doing same thing to Hausa/Fulanis for ages.

You've also started doing it to Yorubas since Jagaban won the election. So, say something else.

In his last Map of Biafra Simon Ekpa packed the Itsekiri and all the Yorubas in Kogi inside it

They are greedy land grabbers.

You know their region is landlocked so they need to steal lands from Rivers, Calabar & Akwa-Ibom to gain access to the high sea.

Unfortunately for them, the people of SS don't wanna have anything to do with them.

As for Kogi, their eyes dey the mineral deposits there. And Benue is a fertile land, not red mud like their region so they can turn the state to their farmyard.

Don't underrate those people oo. They are very cunny and greedy.

No igbo person dead or alive have persistently denigrate, mocked, ridiculed and dished out lies about any ethnic group unprovoked in Nigeria the way Reno Omokri is doing.
My post is not an appeal for him to stop but for other Nigerians to remain understanding and tolerant just as igbos are doing now when any igbo person does the same to any other ethnic group in Nigeria including that of Reno.
I don't want to hear igbos lack respect for other people's culture when the time comes.

As for Tinubu, he doesn't deserve any respect as president or for the office he now occupies, everything he did to Goodluck Jonathan, Obasanjo and other presidents and their families will always hunt him for ever....
was it not the same Tinubu who threatened to form a parallel Government?
The same Tinubu who sponsored protests against the noble policies of the federal government during Jonathans administration?
Same Tinubu who disregarded and disrespected Obasanjo and the federal government when he single handedly created additional local Governments areas/councils for Lagos state against the provisions of the constitution?

Besides, it's dumb to always think that everyone who has a contrary opinion is Igbo.

Lies dictated
1.If Gowon had made broadcast first
they won't be problems
2.Gowon don't have power to make decisions, murtala did.
So the problem is not who broadcast first
but that whatever Gowon agreed on is not binding on the Northern elites.
