I don't know why some people are so draft, see this is bad. The prices of this products are too high for the citizens of Nigeria to buy, which made other countries with high currencies to change their currencies to naira that had no value. They made much gain from the business while we loss, so it is a big win for them and a big loss for us. Kukutenla: |

chigo32:That's one way to look at it. It depends on how the handlers of the economy react to this news. You can easily afford Chinese goods due to their low currency. What we need to do is ramp up production of those goods in high demands thus gaining more forex from the sale. This will in turn help our currency and our farmers as well. As for the local economy, an increase in production will also help crash the price of those goods. So it's about how govt responds to this heads up. If they sit idly by instead of stepping up availability of farm inputs, then your fears might become reality 2 Likes |

This is a bad news my friend, if they change their currencies to naira they will buy so much products of ours with little amount of their currencies . The reason why they came to buy our products is because our naira is so weak. aspabay: |

Most of them must have secretly gone to these parks to inquire just for propaganda purposes, on hearing that the buses are still charging their normal inflated prices, they left in shame and kept quiet. If the 50% discount was real, Tinubu's e-rats would have painted the who social media with videos of passengers confirming that they paid 50%. This announcement is as fake as the Nigerian air that was unveiled few weeks to the end of Buhari's administration. Just lies upon lies. That's what APC has been feeding us with since 2015. 2 Likes |

It takes either serious incompetence or outright malice for a "journalist" to take a fact which is essentially good news - Nigeria's farmers are now competitive in the international marketplace - and spin it as a negative development. To all those claiming that this is somehow a "terrible" thing (and blaming Tinubu for it), what happened to all of your usual moaning about Nigeria needing to develop an export-led economy? Now Nigerian farmers are exporting more, and still you complain! 3 Likes 1 Share |

I said size no matter at all, it's the people's will to develop their economy that matters for example Israel as small as it is has about 1 scientist to 100 persons. How many Nigeria get? Israel scores higher than even a very big America in the innovation index! What matters is actually the will of the people to develop jare! lexy2014: |

KEVIND:If it's not strength then Nigeria will not be the largest economy in Africa and these neighbouring countries will not be now depending on Nigeria for food. In farming, more hands are needed for farming so much that countries like Isreal, US etc actively recruit migrants for their farms as a matter of national policy. They should have just waited if population strength doesn't matter.

FreeStuffsNG: The farming they do in Israel, US, and so forth is mostly mechanzied. Even dairy and polutry farming is heavily mechanzied. They no longer use hands to milk cows for example. It's all machine done. Yes, they hire help from overseas, but it is for certain crops that need to be harvested by hand. Like oranges in the USA for example. I would love to blame your APC for this matter, but to be frank, here in Nigeria, if government supports large scale mechanzied farming, we might end up putting a lot of small scale farmers out of work. On the other hand, if we want food security, we need some improvement in large scale mechanized farming. Whoever rules Nigeria, e go hard to balance am. 1 Like |

You have a point there, production in every aspects of our life is the key to our failing economy. The reason why we buy many products from China is because we don't produce anything that we use, not because of China currencies . China currencies to naira is high, so production is the key as u said early Kukutenla: |

This is a very good news! It reminds me of Emi Lokan's statement about the farmers making money. As it is, there is a sure market, aka high and constant demand, for farmers who cultivate the mentioned crops in the article. This demand should/would propel increased cultivation and attract new entrants as the price entices them. See why the naira has to be low? Hopefully, the security situation gets better to secure their harvests. Great! God bless capitalism! 2 Likes |

tctrills: But this is an opportunity for new entrants to enter the industry to cultivate and harvest more crops. How is it a bad thing? Should Nigerian farmers refuse to sell their produce to the highest bidders? Must their buyers be fellow Nigerians? Why not advocate for more farmers and larger farmlands? Why try to restrict who and at price Nigerian farmers sell their harvests to? 3 Likes |

nairalanda1:Smh. You are looking for who to blame as usual and deviated from acquiring the right knowledge and education. Don't waste your time on finding who to blame for your failures. Back to agriculture, mechanized farming is done in Nigeria too. That's why the farmers output have increased. Nigeria equally produce fertilisers and even export fertilizers which has helped us greatly. Commercial farming is not the same as mechanized farming. Mechanized farming is just part of commercial farming. Commercial farming requires a whole lot of hands! For weeks now that most of the migrants Isreal aggresively import from other countries have fled, Israel farmers have been begging volunteers to come help them on the farms to reduce the huge wastage. US built what it today use to deceive you as successful mechanized farming on the sweat of slaves, trafficked humans and migrant farm hands locked up in shelters. China and India are the biggest producers of a lot of agricultural produces today because of their huge population. Really successful commercial farming need huge population. Where there's huge population there's successful commercial farming. Same reason why the Northerners are more successful in commercial farming than southerners and the Yoruba, the only majority tribe in southern Nigeria, more successful in commercial farming than other tribes in southern Nigeria. Oyo state for years continue to dorminate cassava etc. Even cocoa, kolanut, oranges etc dominated by the Yoruba farmers. 2 Likes |

This is actually both good and bad news at thesame time. The good news is that farmers with huge pile of farm produce will make a lot of money. A good example is a person who grows seasam, once you are farmer of seasam believe me or not you are automatically rich. Just have it in surplus. So truth now is that you cannot be poor anymore as a farmer except you don't have farm produce to sell. Then the bad news is that food is not even enough for Nigeria and we are selling it to outsiders. This can cause shortage of food, there is shortage of food already and we are now exporting what remains aaaaah. Another thing is insecurity, many people want to farm but bandits are stopping them. I was in Zamfara few yeras back and It was such a pity to see rich farmers turned beggers because of bandits. Same thing is happening now in Niger state. People want to farm but can't. So it's now on government to tackle insecurity with all it's might. Nigeria is capable of feeding itself if farmers have the chance. If there is enough food, we won't even care weather someone exports it or not. Just same case as the way China is handling it's economy. And in this case the farmer would make a lot of money and this will motivate others to go into farming. And all these would inturn diversify Nigeria's economy automatically from depending on oil alone also making industrialization possible on a large scale. 2 Likes 1 Share |
