Hello everyone

I’m a chartered accountant from Nigeria and looking towards a UK recognised certification.

Just completed my MSc in Finance and torn between enrolling for CIMA or ACCA.

Can anyone advise?

Hi bro,.

All been said, choosing between CIMA and AcCA depends on your experience and future path. If you'd like to work as an auditor or statutory accountant you might go for ACCA but if its more of business patnering, financial analysis or management accountant CIMA might be favoured but trust me an ACCA holder is also fit for such role.

Please note you would spend alot and time with ACCA. I'll advise you go for ICAEW if you've had 5 years post qualification experience, you won't write any exams. However, if you do not have up to 5years post qualification experience like myself, kindly opt for CIMA which would grant you exemption but require you to write the last paper which is strategic case study. Also note that most big coys here accept ICAN(not all oo), I currently use my ICAN to work in industry but in the process of adding CIMA because I wan port to finance business partnering.

I would also like to state that your experience matters more than your CIMA or ACCA.

Thanks Boss. I appreciate your input

Applying for almost 20 jobs in a day is not enough. Align your CV as others had said and make sure you have a cover letter for every application. Search CV-warejouse, total jobs, reeds, etc and ensure you apply for at least 50 in each day for a week. You need to read some job specification and tailor your cv to it. E get why oh. Na computer dey screen you out. So you too give computer what he want

1. Taylor your CV to match the job application. It might be stressful though.
2. Search for "Reed in Partnership" and register on the website. Most importantly, try to locate their nearest office. Thank me later
3. Socialise. Tiktok, Church groups helps.
I wish you the best

Thanks boss.

I am a silent reader most of the time, but I had to comment on this and encourage you, you have to start applying for jobs like cleaning and warehouse first. I was in your shoes months ago, unfortunately was my daily email and I almost gave up completely but good things comes to those who wait believe me. What I will advise is you build a good cv for the main job you intend to do while working the warehouse job and optimize your LinkedIn, see I never believe social media was important to job hunt until I experienced it, make your main CV align with your social media and be intentional about what you need to do, everyone's outcome is different and believe me aim higher don't listen to people when they say "in this UK, na only warehouse and care you fit do" these are great jobs but if your plan is different follow it as this country gives you opportunity only if you are ready to go for it, I did warehouse passionately and believe me most of the people I am close to are in care/support so for no reason don't think I look down on these jobs but I'll tell you that you are in a country you don't need to know somebody to be whatever you want to be. So I am encouraging you this morning and I am using myself as an example and telling you things change quickly from bad to good here but you only need to be resilient and keep going no matter what, your good news is just around the corner.

Thanks boss. I appreciate. Been applying mostly for the warehouse and cleaning job since I came in.

Since you stay around Manchester, the city is the industrial capital of UK, try warehouse jobs and you will get it easily. Unless you don't want warehouse. And keep trying other sectors

Thanks boss, we keeping applying till I get the mail that will turn through story around

Everybody passed through that phase ,infact it took me 2 months of getting to UK before i can get something reasonable to do and from that time till now ,it has been a roller coaster situation for all my job applications .
You need to know that phase will soon pass and what need mostly now is getting information from your fellow naija and those information are golden and they transcend all this online jobs portal like indeed etc . This is the time to put more effort into socialising and engage more with fellow naija around you maybe tru place of worship etc they will give you sure u lead ,leave indeed alone for now , and ride on the tips and clues that u will give u for jobs .

Thank you boss. I appreciate thus a lot

If you applied for PSW in December, how long did you have to wait before your application was approved?

There is no information you will get here on Nairaland that is superior to the one you will get from the Email Amex sent to you after you were approved.
Follow the instructions on the Amex portal, the app and the email you received. It is pretty straightforward.

Excellent. You should get access to download and sign up on their app. It would direct you on how to setup the direct debit. Welcome on board, use wisely, don't spend more than you have on your bank account.

Good day house, I just need encouragement from you all. I entered UK early this month and I've been job hunting, mehn it hasn't been easy at all. I apply not less that 20 jobs daily and I keep getting the unfortunately mail. I live around Manchester. Just want my senior men to encourage me cos sometimes when I see the mail, it kills my moral but regardless I'll keep applying, hoping this phase will pass soon.

Hello house. Any hint on how to spend wisely when it comes to MOT. My two cars are due in January and February 2024. Does the Centre matter at all cos I am thinking of Halford since they are the one that usually maintain my car but I know they are expensive

Conduct a pre MOT inspection check yourself.......

- Check all your tyres are within legal limits.....
- Check all your lights...
- Check your seatbelts......
- Ensure no warning lights are on.....
- Check your wiper blades .....
- Check your wiper water reservoir is got fluids and clearing your windscreen......
- Ensure your discs and pads are not pitted......
- The body of your vehicle, must not have any dangerous sticking objects......
- Remove air freshener, from rear view mirror...
- Ensure no phone holders are obstructing views.....
Etc etc etc etc .......🀣😁

Abeg I need help. Has anyone traveled for Umrah from uk before and got visa on arrival with their BRP?

I was using an agent to do the process but he said I can travel with the BRP and get a visa on arrival.

I chatted Saudi rep online and got the attached response. The rep said visa on arrival is possible with UK resident permit and then he went ahead to made mention of having a permanent residence even after clarifying with him I’m not on PR yet but I have a residence permit.

I’m really confused and don’t know what to believe now because I no wan get to Saudi and chop breakfast.

Anyone with a practical experience please ?

Networking and socialising with local community especially nigerians and africans in general can get you jobs faster than online applications. Almost every work place have in house referral systems that wants their workers to bring in their trusted person to work for them and they get paid for the referral.
