Glad that Maduka Okoye chose to stay away from the AfCon squad in order to focus and get his career back on track through his club side.

Another person that I would like if he takes such decision is Ghana's Fatawu Isahaku who is in a good form for Leicester.

Cote D'Ivoire has just released there squad for Afcon in January this Evening. Notable absent no Wilfred Zaha on the 27 men squad of the ivorian.

Notable inclusion in the squad include

Nicolas Pepe
Serge Aurier
Seko Fafana
Sebastian Haller
Boga Jeremie

I thought Haller will be missing it due to injury.

Arsenal chiefs are ready to splash out big to land a new striker signing.

The Daily Express says the Gunners will seek a new centre-forward signing in January.

Long-term targets Victor Osimhen, of Napoli, and Brentford's Ivan Toney remain on Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

Bayer Leverkusen's Victor Boniface and Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez are also potential signings.

However, the Gunners face having to sell first before adding a new centre-forward

I doubt Osimhen will be a January signing. Even the toney target na 80m. Vic go cost past that if na January. If na summer maybe 120. My club in a fix right now about these two if indeed he's their target.

1. Stanley Nwabali
2. Samuel Osayi bright
3. zaidu Sanusi
4. Semi Ajayi
5. Calvin Bassey
6. Wilfred Ndidi
7. Alex iwobi
8. Kelechi Ihenacho
9. Moses Simon
10. Victor Boniface

Picking one or two best players from the NPFL can't be a bad decision no matter how you paint it.

You dare wave off Mba and Oboabona's exploit making history while the so called stars have been struggling against minnows teams.

A good number of our legends, as a matter of fact, were unearted from the same NPFL and that is a big statement. The Nigerian league is a near execrable one, but for the records same can and should never be implied of its potentials in producing individual talents.

I don’t agree to just picking players from the NPFL to make up the slot.

Let’s assume Sikiru Alimi is the best player in the NPFL, does that mean he should make the list?

If there are any areas that need enforcement in today’s SE, it has to be in CB, midfield (specific roles) and GK departments. That said, whoever we are looking at in the NPFL needs to have the goods and show they are not only at least as good as what we already have, but are bringing something lacking in that department. Else, you are just picking players just to make local players not feel they are being ignored or for other crazy reasons. The only goal here should be to win the AFCON.

Good to have Patrick Schick back scoring for Leverkusen. That is more than enough cover for Boniface, and it will increase his chances of being a strong contender for the next APOTY.

With Schick helping to steady the ship and giving BO4 a chance to win the Bundesliga, and a good AfCon outing for Boniface, then...

Long way to go sha.

Charles is right Sha. They need to justify picking them in the team with meaningful career moves. I know making it in Europe as an African is tough but others have made it work. Look at someone like okoye. He was picked while playing in the lower leagues of germany but today partly because of his super eagles appearance which gave him visibility he is now in Italy. The super eagles is an international brand and lately it's painful how our npfl stars who have featured for us since atleast afcon 2013 have failed to utilize these big opportunities. It's been 10years since we conquered the continent. Where are our npfl stars? . Where are egwuekwe, MBA, odunlami, agbim, juwon oshaniwa, uzoenyi, Reuben Gabriel, gbolahan salami and a host of npfl stars that have played for the team since then? This thing is supposed to be a mutual partnership; we invite them, they play for us, go to better clubs to improve themselves which will be of benefit to them and us but it seems it's only the local players that benefit from this arrangement. The last npfl player I can remember that made a move abroad and became a main stay in the team is etebo. Talents are emerging and the local stars need to start making moves in order to join the team.

I partially agree with you that Npfl stars don't utilize the opportunity but let's ask ourselves how many of the chances are they been given?

The example of Maduka you gave didn't gel because none of this boys been called up has ever enjoyed half of the privilege Maduka enjoyed. It's either they introduced them in the 87 or 89mins aside the Keshi boys.

"Nigeria not among favorites"- Yaya Toure

The former Manchester City midfielder is convinced three-time winners Nigeria are not among the favourites to win the continental championship next month

Super Falcons and Barcelona Ladies forward Asisat Oshoala has taken a firm stance against Ivorian football legend Yaya Toure’s recent prediction regarding Nigeria’s performance in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nigeria will compete in Group A at the AFCON alongside hosts Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau, and Equatorial Guinea.

Ivory Coast (two titles) and Nigeria (three titles) are the only former champions in the group and the favourites to qualify for the knockout rounds.

However, Ivorian legend Toure backed his country and Guinea-Bissau to make it past the group stage and reach the latter phases of the competition.

Still, Oshoala is not impressed by Toure’s submission.

Asisat Oshoala
Asisat Oshoala
In a chat with Brila FM, the six-time Africa Women Player of the Year dismissed Toure’s skepticism while backing Nigeria’s talented strikers to lift the Super Eagles to glory.

“Talk is cheap. When we get to the tournament, we will separate the boys from the men,” Oshoala said.

“Why not? We have the almighty Osimhen, the best player in Africa; we have Boniface doing well at club level. I feel like we have a good team; it’s not about individual talent.

“I feel like we have a good team, and we have enough time to build up towards the tournament.”

Nigeria boast some of the best attackers in Africa, with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen rated as the most valuable player on the continent.

The 2023 Africa Footballer of the Year was the top scorer during the qualification campaign, netting ten goals in six games.

Lastly, not every player we play in Europe, the legendary Aboutrika didn't play in Europe.

The coach has decided and his decision is final, I hope for better outing at the nations cup

I don't know how Keshi got Mba and Oboboana and confident he got to introduce them into the starting line up in Afcon but at the end it paid off.It was after he introduce Mba and bench Nosa Igiebor that we have balance team, also introduction of Ogenyi Onazi instead of Fegor Ogude gave Mikel and Victor Moses ability to flourish.

I will not deceive you there is no way NPFL players will make Peseiro team cuz he doesn't monitor the league due to what we have in abroad and I will not blame him for sticking to foreign based players.

My major issue with him is goalkeeping dept.and good that he is having Nwabili who I still believe is not better than Christian Nwoke....well at the end we are having NPFL Olorunleke Ojo in the team who is not rated in the top five in NPFL.

The team is good to go if he gets his tactics right.

Well,to many his opinion is insult to us,not qualifying from a group that have Cote d'voire,Guinea Bissau and Equatorial Guinea seems not possible.

Cote d'ivoire is a host country so all we need is to win our first match and at least get a draw against Cote d'ivoire, our last match against Guinea Bissau would be difficult based on what happened during qualifiers, defeated us at home and also lose to us at home.
