Nothing like racism

A lot of white people die even before getting treated because there's a long queue for patients especially all these major illnesses like cancer

So doctors try their best to attend to every patients

Please keep shut on what you don't know.

Healthcare can only be delayed if you don't declare an emergency. There's absolutely no way an emergency patient will not receive care in at most an hour.

Canada has health insurance. The US does not have but all hospitals are mandated by US law to handle emergencies regardless of financial status. Unlike the sham going on in Nigeria, a hospital can never reject you for lack of funds in the US.

The reason people do not like to seek emergency care is because the bills are high and thus they end up deducting from their paycheck for several months. This is could potentially harm your credit score if you delay payments for too long.

However, there's literally nothing like not getting treatment cause you cannot afford it.

You guys should learn to slow down when criticizing, especially sectors of Nigeria you’re not conversant with.

Secondly, that must have been an advanced cancer.

God rest his soul. 🙏🤲

Such an energetic fellow.

Rest on Buddy.

Any knowledgeable medical expert can help the forum with a thread educating us about gastric cancer and it's prevention.

we were made to believe Lagos is very developed and filled with milk and honey.

It's a shame a doctor there couldn't save this innocent man's life 🥺

Idiot, how did Canada turn to Lagos ?

Credit score has nothing to do with healthcare. While Canada has health system challenge itself and there are cases where people have died waiting to be attended to either in emergency or for other reasons.

it's unfortunate the young man died from something an emergency would not likely save him from. I am guessing he attended the emergency for another ailment.
how would the hospital get back their money if you are jobless and they don't have earnings to deduct from?

Odekunle Oddy, wordsmith. Those who lived in Indy hall , University of Ibadan around 2007 to 2011 will definitely remember him. He was a member of Indy Hall Press those years and very popular in UI then.

So sad!
Oddy was a close friend and I was a Zikite. He was silent about his predicament but you could see he had a lost a lot of weight from his physical form.

Bloggers like to give sensational headlines but he had defied Doctor's death time predictions for well over a year.

No.
A Nigerian guy was denied care during the Corona academic. He died, despite his sister pleasing for the health officials to help them, in America. They shrugged them off , technically.

As a black man, you are at the bottom pole.

One problem you will never want to have in US/ Canada is health problem

I really think they are overrated. Especially in the US, the healthcare is so damn expensive. Americans do medical tourism to get better and affordable treatment in neighboring countries

America had the best medical hospitals in the world and some of the best doctors. I’m sure the average book savvy Nigerian has read ‘The gifted hands’ by Ben Carson
Access is another thing. It is state by state. States are like independent countries in America (State actually means country in its original use in Greece and Rome, hence City-State, hence United States) If you like big crowded states, expect a longer wait time in the ER. Everyone is entitled to ER care with or without money. An emergency doesn’t require money. Cancer care in my state is basically free and other things like sickle cell etc. You are required to get insurance through your employer or cheap universal care like Obamacare. People don’t usually want to spend that money so they wait until they fall sick. After you fall sick and you approach insurance it’s usually much more expensive. You’re supposed to get an umbrella before it starts raining. If you are below poverty level you’re eligible to apply for several things including Medicaid (free medical care), EBT food stamps (free food stamps), Section 8 housing (very very discounted housing). All public schools are free.

Some republican states refuse to collect these assistance from government. They say it encourages laziness. It will be available but limited to only what they state is providing, no federal assistance in such cases

So you have to understand how a system works before you criticize it

America is the richest country in the world today with nearly 25% of the entire world’s economy and all the top richest people in the world. More than 1 million people cross in illegally every year for the last few years and it’s still growing.

We are not saying the same thing.

While I agreed that Healthcare is expensive, expense for an American does not mean the same for a Nigerian. The only set of people that cannot pay for healthcare in America are the homeless and they have free healthcare already.

The average citizen sees out-of-pocket healthcare as a huge burden on the paycheck so they tend to avoid it whenever possible by sometimes abroad for general care, mostly Canada. How many Americans have you heard of going abroad for cancer treatment or neurosurgery?

Healthcare quality in America and Canada is among the best in the world in terms of outcome, so saying that healthcare is overrated in the two countries is a very ignorant and stupid statement. Imagine him saying that falling sick in Canada is the worst thing to happen to you.

And btw I never insulted him, I only told him to please shut up.

When ever you are sick and feel the need to book for an appointment to meet a doctor, please ,explain that it is very severe and that you can barely walk.In most cases you will get a quick appointment.
Everyone, however, should begin taking their health seriously, home or abroad. Most Nigerians abroad are not truly living a healthy lifestyle ,that is why obesity is high among Nigerians.Obesity is strain to healthcare system of every country.More than 72% of adult blacks in the UK are fat or living with obesity.4 of 5 black women in the USA are fat or obese.Consistent exercise and better nutrition should be our priority.

This is crap. Even a patient on stage 4 is entitled to emergency care so long as he is still being actively treated. This was a failure of the Canadian government.

He was an atikulator and said Igbos were persona non grata in his tweets but I wish him well.

At Stage 4 cancer the doctors probably didn’t deem it as an emergency at that point. In their mind you don go already. One day all of us go die.
