For your 1 above, you are beginning to get confused. The expression "When in Rome behave like Romans" applies to non-Romans and not citizens of Rome. Your analogy is like saying to a Nigerian to behave like one when in Nigeria. How does that make sense when he is already Nigerian? Like I said before, you just keep shifting everywhere with offpoints.

The expression " when u are in Rome, behave like Romans," is for both outsider visiting a place and also the usual resident...u don't have to agree though...thats one problem with you, u want me to agree with you...a healthy dialogue doesnt have to mean agreeing with all u say.....

Kukutente23:

For your no. 2, if we are to go by your logic, any law existing will never be changed since everyone is expected to abide by the laws without question.
I never said laws can't be changed.....I only said there are better ways to raise ur voice than removing hijab and showing cleavage in a country where the law doesn't even favour you , not even powerful nations will support u..

Kukutente23:

MLK, Tubman, Malcom X and a host of others defied racial segregation laws in the US and it was their protests and rallies that eventually led to the abrogation of such laws. Iranian women protesting against use of hijab of which this woman is among is in same class.
Are protest and rallies breaking the law in the US where Malcom lived...??
I told u earlier ....there are better ways to protest....but u do selective reading because all u want to do is accuse me.... grin

Kukutente23:

If you feel the women are wrong and forming woke to protest against forceful use of hijab, then you should also accept that MLK and co were wrong to rail against racism.
Sigh....She was protesting by snapping cleavage and no hijab pics and uploading it online in iran.. Yeah.. that's a good protest... grin. Please tell me what laws the Malcom broke while protesting?

Kukutente23:

You can't say until the laws are changed everyone is expected to comply and still think MLK and co were right to protest against unjust laws.
Like I said there are better ways to disagree against the laws of where u live?? If u can't get that, then I cannot help you....

Kukutente23:

Be informed that Iranian women have been protesting against forceful usage of hijab for a while and their stand is that hijab usage is not meant to be forceful or compulsory under sharia edict. The oppressive men who are forcing them to comply are those you are supporting with your illogical application of when in Rome behave like Romans.
So the government didn't enforce it ...but some pple are just oppressing women... ?? Dude..the leader of Iran refused to be interviewed by Christina amanpour just because she didn't use Hijab despite the interview is outside iran.. yet u are here saying its just oppressive men enforcing hijab use... ....okay...opinion is free...

Kukutente23:

Like I said, it should be across board. When the Shah is going to New York, he should wear a suit since he is going to America and should behave like Americans.

Exactly....but u are just viewing wrongly because in America suit is not the dress code.... liberality in dressing is allowed as long as u are not completely núde... there are no strict dressing guide...everyone dresses how they want include the use of hijab if u like........if America bans hijab use ..then no Muslims can go and do anyhow in america...

Wait ..Why are u crying for america that has not banned liberal dressing??
Take this Unrelated example...Hope u know there are no Muslims holidays in the UK, Ireland and co. despite there is freedom of religion expression. .... It's the law...and I've not seen any Muslim protesting by breaking laws... They are raising their concerns through the parliament....

You must wear o whether you belong or not. There is this Nigeria guy that got a job in one of these Arab countries. He moved there and later relocated his wife to join him.

They are not Muslims but the wife now dress like them. She said that's the law. If they catch you not covering your head as a woman, na gbese.

So, in essence it has nothing to do with whether you are a Muslim or not. As far as you are a woman, you must wear hijab and cover your head.

She doesn't dress like that when she was in Nigeria. But to obey the laws of the land and not to put her husband who is a Doctor into trouble over there, she has to follow the rules and law as a wife of an immigrant.

You just keep mixing things up.
Law is not law. There are bad laws and there are good laws. Laws need to be tested to know if they are good or bad. If they are bad, they need to be done away with. A law that says keep women in sacks because their faces can make a man miss his way is a bad law. There's no difference between that law and racial discrimination. It is totally different from sexuality laws which at best are based on sexual preference (which is a choice) or perversion at worst.
Stop mixing things up. You're not making sense

Iran as a nation has the right to make laws but the laws should be across board. You cannot make laws to restrict a certain section of society and call it a just law. Before God and man, such laws are unjust. Why should wearing of veil only apply to the women? Why is there no law regulating the dressing of men? What the law is saying is that men are freer than women which is also one of the hallmarks of racial laws. I really don't know why an African will be supporting such laws though. In African societies before colonialism, women were free to wear what they wish. However, they also suffered some restrictions such as a virgin should not be seen walking about during some cult festivals lest she be used as sacrifice. Also, some cultures encourage the usage of hunchbacks as sacrifice too while some prohibited giving birth to twins. I'm sure you will have no problem with calling these laws unjust but you are here to defend Iranian men putting their women in sacks based on some medieval laws. An unjust law has no business existing especially in this age of enlightenment of mankind. You need to be aware of that. That's what Iranian women are fighting for and you need to understand that and respect that instead of being on the side of their oppressors.

You need to calm down
You are the one who has been making claims in defense of the oppressors on this thread from the first page. You have quoted a lot of people and you have been quoted too. The point I'm making is you should first learn and understand issues before you start defending. You want to adopt pragmatism to defend something that is clearly wrong. You first started from making a meaningless claim of doing as Romans do. When that has been trashed and you have been well enlightened as to the paucity of that claim, you have shifted to the law is the law. All these in a bid to defend Iranian oppressive regime who have failed to identify their women as important members of society. I don't know you but I want to believe you will not want your daughter to grow in a society where a bunch of perverted men will decide for her little things as what she wears not to even mention what she makes do with her life.
That is what you are unwittingly supporting in Iran. The lady flogged is an Iranian citizen who wants to have the right to decide something routine as what she wears. Can you explain why you think she should not have the right to make that simple decision?

...na simple question I ask you..and u are already assuming context....answering what I didn't ask you....

All u have here is judging a nation's law based on another nation's standard....

In the UK.....men pay more for insurance and driver's licence than women..it's the law...is it not biased against men...?? They have their reasons for enacting such law ..

U said one law is bad ..one law is good...who is the judge of bad and good?

Bad or good is relative ...I hope u know??
Is LGBT laws good...promoting chemicalizing children/minors with puberty blockers,??

Is it a good law for Nigerian to jail same sex offenders for 14 years??

Is capital punishment/death penalty good?? Should any state have the right to kill anyone??

Since u are forming the judge of good law and bad laws....please let us know is good for someone to be able to wake up and claim male today and female tomorrow.??

Do u think Iran made their laws just to be wicked?? Bros there are justification for every law in every state .....no state makes its law as a bad law...u are just an asslicker of thr west.

... At the end of the day ....u don't have the right to tag someone's law as good or bad because u don't agree...... Wether it's hijab laws or LGBT laws...

Laws evolve...I did laws and ethics one one of my courses....and the fact is laws are never black and white.......they are sometimes established because of current situation of things, because of people, culture, location, behavioral paternity in a location......... So don't come trying to claim high and mighty to be the judge of what's right and wrong....

The reason why she should obey the law of her land until it changes which is a law on modest dressing is the same reasons gay men and women can't marry in Nigeria...and they have to obey..

It's the same reason divorce is not allowed in the Philippines by law ..u marry u die there.
