Extremely NOT.

I used to be that person that over show poor people kindness, but recently I have realised that poor people see what you have and believe you don't deserve it, they look at you & ask themselves why they are not in your position. Anytime someone notices my freehandedness in giving out money, they always try to come up with issues from the family that is of no business of mine just to syphon money out of me.

Today their mother has a broken leg, tomorrow their sister is pregnant but doesn't have money to pay for hospital bills, next tomorrow their Dad is in the hospital and needs 250k for surgery. Their needs are endless.

I still have an open hand to giving to the poor but strategically, I do it to buy loyalty now because the only thing the Nigerian system understands is MONEY.

During Xenophobia retaliation attacks in Jakande Lekki, I saw poor people looting out franchised Shop Rite and their usual tone & consensus was that the Rich owns the place, they buy from there. Why should they be able to purchase those things while we are not able to do the same. I saw old women in their 50s, Men, Ladies & other able bodied men loot electronics and goods from honest people's market with an excuse that they are poor. Random big cars on the road in Jakande were attacked & the excuse was that they are rich, they are the ones stealing Nigerians money.

The poor lives on survival instinct, I can never feel guilty for enjoying the riches God gave me & also from the work I did.

Let them go & work!

ÑaijaCover Really Love This Word that come from you, my brother, everyone should go out and hustle for their daily bread in this life.

No.

I believe everyone should work for their money and spend however they like. If anyone doesn't like how much I spend on food, the person should work for his/her money and spend any amount s/he likes on food.

The right to choose, not the right to dictate.

Correct Point, Brotherly

You are very right!
Which further expands on the fact that due to the mixed bag one gets when addressing the issue of poverty(there are many reasons why people are poor and amongst those reasons Laziness is also one of the major reasons), one needs to be rather logical than sentimental in his overall outlook on spending money.

That's the crux of it.

As part of humanity, sometimes we may overlook our logic to step in. That would seem fair. But the idea of guilt is far fetched.

The question is, why do rich people find it hard to empower poor people?

Why do the rich feel like they are better than the poor even though they will be facing the same fate as the poor? death.

Why do the rich believe that the poor should not be given a certain amount of money?

If you have more than you need, you better start helping as many poor people as you can before your death, that is the mission, that is the reason for your wealth.

You think you owe nobody, you will find out after death, dey play.

This reeks of entitlement. The rich owe the poor NOTHING. The poor are the poor because they are that; poor, in mentality majorly, before even talking about money.

So you want a rich person who worked for his money to simply throw it away by giving a senseless poor person, just because he has more than enough?

What happened to the poor going through the process to get rich BY THEMSELVES? Or you think the rich just appeared there?

And using death to 'threaten' is very funny. Everyone will die, so give poor people money so you will go to heaven, or what?

But at the same time, I'm cautious of your response lol. I want you to give it to a widow in deed. A real virtuous one.

It's like allowing the overhead tank in your house to be filled up to the point that the water is pouring out and you have people wwho takes bucket to other places to fetch water to theirown houses. That reality should make you feel some sense of guilt.

If you spend on what you don't need while others around you are hungry? You should worry about that.

Oh........okay.

My memory of these events are fuzzy I just recall needing something from a mini-sou store, when my neighbour mentioned both stores nearest to us were temporarily out of business because of the loot and rampage.

If I remember correctly the LASG compensated store/business owners at the Jakande ShopRite after the end SARS saga, abi? LASG being Lagos state government.

The Brat, because I don't sense that suffer head is worrying you. grin

Yes Sukkot straff, it's better than saying the F word. I am working on minding my language and cleaning up my speech this year grin.
hehe trust me straff works very well. It sounds very detached from the debauchery of the act itself. A nice disconnect

Why should I be guilty of enjoying the fruits of my labour?
If you're poor, get a job, if your job isn't paying enough, upskill and get better jobs.

Hahaha so you believe that poor people are senseless, got you. grin
One is entitled, the other one might be selfish, nobody works harder than the poor, there is no process, many people die hardworking and poor, most of them didn't get the opportunity or lacked the resources, I am not threatening anybody with death, Am I God?
But the fact remains, we are going to die someday why stack up money that your children cannot finish, look for good poor people to empower, some rich people are doing it already and they are not stupid.

If I decide to splurge on vanities and whatnot, it's my money and financial responsibility. Noo be you help me work for the money!
Poor people should know that the rich isn't financially responsible for them neither are they entitled to their financial accountability unless it's public funds.

A widow in need or deed, Brat? grin

I don't have a problem with that but I want to hear the background story, why you think she is virtuous and why you think this will benefit her.

Please feel free to talk to me online or offline, your choice/preference.

In deed.

Most women stay widowed while young, refusing to remarry. Biblically they are to stay consecrated to God if they don't remarry, but then I noticed most widows refuse to while entering into unholy unions for money or whatever it is. And because of the financial benefits from strangers they get to enjoy the title, even though they don't really need it. Some are single mothers pretending to be widows to curry favor.

But there are a few of them who are widows in deed. If you know of a virtuous older widow who is in need, please sense her. I just feel particular about it now is all.

Yep...it's most likely why I avoid making connections. I don't sleep well knowing people I know are going through financial hardship. Of course, this comes from knowing that this hardship is no fault of their own and that if I had been born in their condition, the situation will might likely be the same. pheww!
