Please someone should help with this:

I just got my PPR for my study starting in April. However, I am still in Nigeria and I want to apply for SOWP and VV for my 2 kids. Since I am yet to enroll and yet to travel(no study permit), can I still apply? And will it get approve? or do I need to get to canada first?

Did you apply using you gckey or your wife applied with her own gckey profile?

nnamdi346:

We didn't apply together. I applied after hers was approved and visa placed in her passport.

She used me as home ties but in my SOWP application I ensured I explained the sudden change in plan (i.e why I decided to travel with her) in detail...just some subtle emotional blackmail...and it was approved.

Hello, please I need guidance on the step by step process for Canada study visa application with spouse sowp and dependent child.
Thanks
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Bettypro(f): 7:11am On Jan 13
Good morning house, please I need the advice of the gurus on this thread. My visa application has been approved and I have received my stamped passport. However, I listed my partner as one of my home ties, I even included pictures of us from 2019 till date, stating that I would come back after my study to get married.

Now, he wants us to get married before I leave in April 2024.

1) If we get married in April, do I need to inform IRCC of the change in my marital status and most importantly, would that not raise concerns?

2) Is there a duration people need to be married for before they can apply for SOWP? If I have to get married, I would want him to join me, maybe after six months or a year.

Please I need advice.

Good afternoon everyone.....has anyone travelled recently (I mean this January) ?
My concern is the news that said we can't use Ghana must go bags anymore for international travels. Does that include that grey (somehow black and white dicedbag)....…?
I'm traveling soon and I'm confused right now and it's not helping me plan well at all...

I really don't want to pack my foodstuff in suitcase (traveling) bag because it won't be of use to me anymore once I get there and it will add to the weight
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Myworld111: 2:23pm On Jan 13
My Spouse travelled to Canada on 26th December 2023, she used the Grey color sack bag on lufthansa airline.

incorrect.

Begin by creating your own account and include your children in your application. You will require your wife's SP, an invitation letter, and various other supporting documents for your application.

Initiate the process by setting up a GCKey account. As you proceed, the steps will become clearer. Make sure to take your time and go through the thread carefully, as it contains plenty of useful information that will aid you in the process.

Good luck!

Pls I want to ask, what if the principal applicant already got their visa but hasn't left Nigeria yet and want to start applying for spouse and 3kids immediately. Is it okay to go ahead or wait until spouse gets to Canada first b4 depending spouse can start the application for SOWP?

Good evening everyone,
We’re trying to apply for SP and SOWP, we only have a marriage certificate from the Local Government and our wedding pictures with friends and family. What else do we need to add as prove of marriage?

Building on folla's recommendation, I suggest that you gather all necessary documents and apply after three months. This approach tends to be more beneficial than applying after just one or two months. In cases where my clients have sufficient funds, I typically advise them to apply at the same time.

Good luck

@OkukuOne pls what do you mean by after 3 months? Is it 3 months after PPR or 3 months after applicant had settled in Canada b4 spouse and kids can start applying? Thank you
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by charlesoz19: 3:13pm On Jan 14
There is no need to wait for any period. The length of waiting does not affect the possible outcome, what does is the presentation of your application. Good POF, a strong reason to return, why you want your family to be around you and how you intend to take care of living expenses. The waiting is a waste of time. Make sure you include all the documents that gave you your visa and include the dependent you intend to go with. If your POF is good then you need to work more on the SOP and you wont regret it. The only regret will be that you wasted the time waiting for nothing. Please note (make sure you can prove beyond doubt that you are a DLI student. recently that is the only reason for most refusals. Put all your school-related documents).

Thank you so much for your response. However I want to ask if my spouse can use an account he opened this January with money fixed in it as POF? Note that I will add my own to it. And how much will be enough for 3 children above 5 but below 11 and a spouse for POF?
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by charlesoz19: 5:27pm On Jan 14
If you mean 2024 January, I will say NO. It's a red flag to open an account and use it immediately. The VO sees such as a demonstration of POF account. Instead, use an old account and explain with documents why you have a lump sum.

POF breakdown
student 20,650
each dependent 5500
you could get an accommodation for 1500 for 12 months (1500 x 12 =18,000
add your balance fee for 1 year. (e.g you paid the first semester and you have the second semester to pay add the balance to POF
after the total sum add 2000 for emergency

Please note that this is only an example and goes a long way to make your application easier.
However you decide to present your application, make sure you have explained and convinced yourself that even the slightest lie is true.

Don't be scared about trying you will dance in praise at the end.

Good day everyone.

Please I have serious dilemma. In 2021 me and my boyfriend applied for a study visa in Canada on the same day but separate applications and we both got our visas approved. He got 2 years visa and I got 1 year visa. We couldn’t travel because of one thing other. My own visa expired in 2022 and I couldn’t travel. His visa is expiring February 2024 but he travelled end of December 2023 so he has resumed classes and now he is about extended his study permit. We have both decided that I come over there under the spousal open work permit as his common law partner. Though I currently running my masters degree in Nigeria.
Please I just have a few questions;
1. Going there as his common law partner will it contradict the SOP I wrote earlier, how do I defend this so that i don’t contradict myself because I said I was studying that course to come and take over my dad’s business
2. Is it the bank account of my partner who is already in Canada that I will use as my sponsor or is it my bank account
3. If my partner got a cash gift of deed in his account would that affect if he can sponsor me or not?
4. With the new increase in POF for study visa as of 1st January 2024, where a single applicant has to 20,635 CAD and if he is bringing a family member it’s 25,690 CAD. How much do I need to show as POF?
5. Is it his gc key account we would use for this application or am I meant to create another gc key account to start my application since my study visa gc key account has expired?
6. Is it compulsory to show any notarized common law partnership certificate? Or can prove our relationship through pictures, texts conversations and the house we rented together?
Please can you help me with this dilemma so that I avoid mistakes during applications?

No it wont. Plans do change and a good SOP that explains your intentions without making the previous intention a total lie will work.

2. Is it the bank account of my partner who is already in Canada that I will use as my sponsor or is it my bank account

You must show that you are working in your home country and not a liability to Canada. you must show you are not looking for a way to escape. so you must have a stable income or an account with decent flow and balance. both accounts is recommended.

3. If my partner got a cash gift of deed in his account would that affect if he can sponsor me or not?

Explain reasons on SOP and support with the document.

4. With the new increase in POF for study visa as of 1st January 2024, where a single applicant has to 20,635 CAD and if he is bringing a family member it’s 25,690 CAD. How much do I need to show as POF?

Add what ever expenses he will be making to the POF. ( flight. complete first year fee. accommodation etc)

5. Is it his gc key account we would use for this application or am I meant to create another gc key account to start my application since my study visa gc key account has expired?

Use your GC key. visa expired or not. will be wise to state why you did not travel with your previous visa on SOP
brief explanation. Canada appreciates transparency

6. Is it compulsory to show any notarized common law partnership certificate? Or can prove our relationship through pictures, texts conversations and the house we rented together?

Notarization is not important. proving that you telling the truth is most important. Eg joint account. shared bills. evidence of living together before he left. anything that showed you guys were living as partners

My answers are based on Experience and Ideas and so is not a must to acknowledge.
only use it as a guide and make your detailed research

Oh....at some point my eligibility started after a long time of no update
Then we called ircc and we were told that Sowp typically takes up to 4 months that we don't have any update by February 15, we should send a webform
But we sent a webform three days later containing school fee receipt and fully updated result of my husband 1st semester and kept waiting until 8th of Jan
Also......my Gmail app didn't alert me I have a mail....but it's my practice to type ircc on the search button which I did on the 9th and found out that I have a mail from them..... please check regularly for updates

I recommended waiting for three months for several reasons, but ultimately, the decision rests with you, just as the other person suggested. Let me explain the rationale behind the three-month timeframe. Often, people's perspectives and decisions evolve over a period of time. It's a way to ensure that your choices are made thoughtfully and with due consideration. Imagine a scenario where you're an employee in a certain company. Suppose your doctor has conducted several tests and advised a three-month bed rest, supported by relevant medical documents. However, two weeks into your rest, you learn about a lucrative opportunity at work for those putting in extra hours, and you're tempted to return early due to your financial needs. If you abruptly go back to work, claiming either a misdiagnosis or a second opinion that contradicts the first, consider how this might reflect on you in your employer's eyes, especially if you return immediately after hearing about the work incentive, versus if you had waited for a while.

Remember, everyone has a unique approach to decision-making, based on their personal analysis and perspective.

The choice to act now or later is entirely yours. If you have strong, justifiable reasons, then why not? However, I always advocate for caution in such matters.

I urge you to think this through carefully and decide based on what you value most.

Good luck!

Hello,
My husband SOWP was refused in Nov 2022, we intend to reapply, please does he have to state the refusal and what he has done about it in his LOE.
The refusal was based on finance and assets.

It's 3 months after applicant had settled in Canada.

This is recommended, especially where the applicant has used his family as home tie. Furthermore, it's the pattern with applications that have resulted in more success.

Cheers.

Have you applied for and obtained your GCMS Notes? These notes would detail the exact reasons for the refusal.

When you have known the reasons, you then set out to address them one after the other in your LOE/SOP. Definitely, you'll disclose the previous refusal and inform IRCC what has changed since your last application.

Cheers.

Yes, he can state the refusal and mention that he has provided further documentation. He doesn't have to mention what exactly he is doing differently, especially if he doesn't have the GCMS note.
