People register SIM cards with the faces of Children...

I mean Almajiri Children wey no get house.

So, imagine a ransom call was made from Sokoto/Gusau expressway, and then while tracking, the number is owned by a 6 year old girl in Ozubulu, Anambra.

As a policeman, will you waste your resources to Anambra, to find the girl?

These things are not easy. Nigerians have defeated the aim of NIN and all that.

If this is the case , then we need to rejig our security architecture . There needs to be collaboration between the security agencies and telecos.

I think telecos should do better , they should verify addresses used for registering SIM cards. Banks do this . I opened a bank account late last year and my bank held my funds because there was a slight error in the address I filled while filling the account opening form. I rectified the address and they verified the address before lifting PND on the account .

Security needs to be taken serious in this country , except the government want to use overlooking of security issues to reduce population of this country

They are a bunch of lazy compromised good for nothing bastards

If you know where they are drop tear gas or all those disorienting gas used by anti terrorists

But as usual they have Nigerian support. There is a story that during the gej admin us forces arrived with plans to execute a rescue mission. They planned to drop gas that would put everyone to sleep. Next thing during their reconnaissance they saw pictures of militants in gas masks.

It is after all our super cop abba kyari who was acting as enforcer for area boys andbdrug dealers. You can be sure the police and military are doing the same. Right after jumat.
make I hear say some low level military 🪖 recruit no get hand for this kidnapping..

As the police dey road dey steal and extort, some low level recruit of the military dey dey run the kidnapping on a low..

Otherwise where these kidnappers dey get their military uniforms from? Because Dem dey move in military uniforms and ak47s

El Rufai claims they(security agents) know where the kidnappers are. They even listen to their conversation

He said the security agents are always reluctant to attack them because they will use the hostages as human shield and its almost impossible to kill them without killing the people you aim to rescue.

He was of the opinion that they should be bombed alongside the victims so we get rid of them once and for all but there's only so much he can do.

Elrufai will never support his kidnapped family member being bombed with kidnappers . Elrufai lost a child back then and I watched on TV how emotionally wrecked he looked when people paid him condolence visits .

All these extreme solutions are easy to proffer when u and ur loved ones are not involved .

We need to go to the root cause of kidnapping to be able to solve kidnapping challenge

Lol.. I'm not even bothered about the security situation because I have seen that we don't have the man power or will to deal with it.

We (referring to the ruling class)

So why bother??

On the contrary, the nature of Nigeria and corruption from multiple quarters makes kidnapping low risk high return

One literally reads different stories where an entire village or community is providing support services for kidnappers.

Or of police and soldiers collecting their cut from people going to deliver the ransom.

There are multiple ways for motivated security agencies to catch these bastards

Kidnapping is not as easy as it seems . Those kidnappers would need to plan the terrain they use , the means of collecting ransom and even hope their victims families will cooperate .

U don’t even know if the police or soldier u are settling is not being investigated to lead them to u.

How do you verify an address as a telco?

Banks can afford to verify anything, afterall, you are paying for it. You have to pay 11k in your account, for your business account documents to be verified. Also, Children cannot open accounts on their own, except through their parents

But for telcos, every umbrella on the street is registering SIM cards per hour. From kids to adults, all are eligible. There are also no supporting documents to verify anything when buying a SIM. Just NIN number, wey dem don dey run sef.

Omoh! That NIN stuff is like a failed project in terms of security

Absolutely. That's why I even said asking people not to pay ransom is easier said than done. God forbid my wife was kidnapped, I will sell everything I have to pay them.

Bobb is a top player, and not quite academy. Many clubs have been hunting him from 12 years old. City signed him at 17 from Norway as well as a whole host of top youngsters over the last 3 to 5 years along with the likes of Lavia, Pedro Porro and many others

If your club was not offering competitive packages and spending on the best youngsters at that time, don't expect Arteta to magic up talent from nowhere. City Football group own 12 football clubs and various soccer centers so young players know they will get ample games in at least one of those clubs for their development, and they get lucrative offers for their age, world class training facilities and even a very good stadium for their youth team. City can also filter 1,000 youngsters through their various clubs and academies and present a ready made diamond to Pep that's been tested and proven. Most times they sell such quality youngsters to balance their books as a business strategy before even giving them a chance, that anyone they decide to keep, just know he is the business. It's Arteta vs a whole structure.

City have long flogged Manure hands down for talent in Manchester and NorthWest England because of this structure. Go and check out James McAtee at Sheffield Utd and Tommy Doyle at Wolves, these are City youngsters on loan there that can play for top 6 sides, and they are way down the pecking order to Oscar Bobb. City is low-key the Brighton of the big clubs, except they sell their academy talent at £10m-£20m just to tidy their books rather than give them chance like Brighton and run up their value to £50m+. See stadium their youth team play in, with a walkway to the main stadium, while Arsenal are still borrowing a decrepit Borehamwood, home stadium of a non league club as home ground for their youth and women. Arteta is just one man. The Saka and Martinelli we are seeing, na him give them chance, just like Nketiah, Smith-Rowe, Reiss Nelson, Joe Willock and even Odegaard to a lesser extent. He can't do pass his strength and support structure.

Citeh as a franchise are just finely run. One can’t help but just envy them.

The solution is for the security agencies to up the ante and also for the government to make the country prosperous so that less people will find crime like kidnapping enticing .

Kidnapping is a crime that involves a whole lot of risk which people would not ordinarily not want to take .if the economic situation gets better , I believe less people would want to be be bandits/kidnappers

Security agents too need to do better . If person insult government officials our security agents will know how to track such person down , but kidnappers would be making calls with Nigerian SIM cards to their victim’s family and somehow they can’t track them down.
🤦‍♂️
This shit needs a loud speaker.

Commissioning ceremonies often come with peculiar optics / politics, especially projects that may never be 100% completed.

It is why we have terms like practical completion, first phase etc

As an example in 2002/3 adenuga wanted his building on adeola odeku commissioned on October 1 or Glo anniversary. I forget which. The building was not ready. But everyone ran around and ensured parts of the building were presentable for the ceremony. Sha don't look behind the curtain please. As people exit, workers moved back in.

Because the refinery is a multi product refinery, it may be another 6 months before it is producing petrol and another 6 months again before it is producing the other products. What is the hold point for commissioning?

Started operations? 100% operational?

On top of this dangote must have been under immense pressure from his creditors to start operations so the billion dollar debts can be serviced. Everyone was invested in the refinerys success or failure one way or another.
From reports, looks like the Refinery will not produce PMS until later this year or next year. If the Refinery causes a positive effect on pump price of products, goods and services and help bring in much needed Forex, we will all celebrate and enjoy it...

U are making my point for me bro. Something has to give, the government needs to go tough; if it involves parents using their details to register for wards who are minor then so be it. We need to stop handling these things with kid gloves.

If it comes to FG mandating telecos to verify address of subscribers at a cost that will be later dedcucted from the subscriber's account balance, then so be it! Nothing is impossible. See the N50 stamp duty banks are dedcuting, whether u like it or not u must pay. Na auto debit.

If government can impose stuff like stamp duty on bank account holders and yearly proof of ownership fee on car owners just for the sake of driving government revenue, what stops government from imposing cost of verifying telecos subscribers address on subscribers just for their own safety?

People that recharge 100 naira is who you want to impose verification charge on?

Are you even aware that in the core villages, there is no address; No street or number...
Umuaku autonomous community, opposite Ichie Dike's compound. How is this address beneficial?

And lastly, you have been to the North. You know how many hours it takes within a state to move from point A to point B. How will Telcos fund that process?

Make dem spend 10k to verify house. Who go come pay the money?

It is doable. The reason the telcos are not doing this is because they make money from all users properly or improperly registered without any penalties.

If the FG starts imposing fine for every improperly registered sim card on their networks, they will sit up immediately.

Even abroad, they have burner phones. These stuffs are quite different from banks.

The only way to make this work would have been through the NIN, but that has lost its integrity.

I don't know a country where you need to submit NIN, proof of house address, for you just to get a SIM and call.

They will use people who reside in those LGA's to verify the addresses. Yes I've been to the north and I know houses are not numbered but there are landmarks. I know Northerners use "angwa church", "angwa makaranta"..etc meaning "church area", "school area" to identify the closes landmark to a person's home. These things narrow down things for security agencies.

Nobody reccharges N100 all year long na, u will always need to recharge to make calls or keep ur line active. This 2024 not 2004, even northerners in the remotest part of the north call their loved ones and they need airtime to make those calls.

If the government places the responsibility on telecos to be responsible for this address verification of their suscribers, trust me they will surely figure things out. Telecos have invested so much in their business operation Nigeria to let their business suffer because they cannot proffer solution that minimal challenge

The first problem is the FG bastardising the NIN process.

Every Tom Dick and Harry can register you for NIN. That's the problem. Also, how come I can type any address to have an NIN? Why can't the FG verify that I truly live there, and I am a Nigerian?

The NIN process is why kidnapping cannot stop till tomorrow.

I read sometime ago that IMEI number can actually be used to track a call .

So ideally our security agents should still be able to track the location of kidnappers with phone IMEI number even if they register their lines with 6 year old alamajiri details

IMEI too can be changed and it will lead to a dead when tracked. To nab the kidnappers you'll need to combine different methods like checking the metadata of the kidnappers via the routers on the mast used in receiving/initiating the call, triangulating the GPS location and boots on to gather enough Intel within the location.

The best solution is to track the cash
There are electronic cash that can be traced
Another organisation should be set aside for this since DSS have turn local vigilante and our police is useless as ever
Each time there's a ase of kidnapping and ransom this sect should provide the money for the victims and they track the money to arrest the culprits

It can be gathered of course but you know how some of our law enforcement agents behave if you don't lobby/bribe them to do their work they will not take you serious. Recently my phone was stolen I reported to the nearby station providing them with my phone details the officer I met asked me to give him something which I refused to do he promised to get back to me we exchanged contacts. After several weeks of not hearing from I called him he to get an update he flatly replied me with no update.

Sometimes criminals are not as intelligent as we make them seem in our mind ; it’s just the fact that they have a daring heart that makes some of them criminal .

On Friday evening I was listening to Okey Bakassi’s programme on radio and they read a particular story of a car thief who was nabbed by security agents on his way to his village in Paiko Niger state to show his parents his “new car “….. Okey bakassi and the gang made jokes out of the story and it was a comic relief but okey bakassi asked a very important question while at it. He said he’s curious to know exactly what goes on in the mind of a criminal ; like how do they even think ?

The reason he asked the questions was because of the funny way the thief was arrested . Like this guy stole a car , then faced his village and was determined on going to the village to show his parents he has arrived . But this same thief obviously had no money on him. The car developed fault on the way and in a bid to repair the the car, he proposed to selling the car spare tyre on the road . ( cos he didn’t have money to pay a mechanic ). It was strange for a traveller to advertise spare tyre for sale to another traveller , so the person he advertised to suspected foul play and had him arrested . That was how they now discovered the car was stolen.

Now imagine, one would’ve thought a thief would plan his move so well that such 4ck up would not have happened . But they are not as intelligent as we think most times
