izzou: If this is the case , then we need to rejig our security architecture . There needs to be collaboration between the security agencies and telecos. I think telecos should do better , they should verify addresses used for registering SIM cards. Banks do this . I opened a bank account late last year and my bank held my funds because there was a slight error in the address I filled while filling the account opening form. I rectified the address and they verified the address before lifting PND on the account . Security needs to be taken serious in this country , except the government want to use overlooking of security issues to reduce population of this country |

Itsrm: Elrufai will never support his kidnapped family member being bombed with kidnappers . Elrufai lost a child back then and I watched on TV how emotionally wrecked he looked when people paid him condolence visits . All these extreme solutions are easy to proffer when u and ur loved ones are not involved . We need to go to the root cause of kidnapping to be able to solve kidnapping challenge |

Lol.. I'm not even bothered about the security situation because I have seen that we don't have the man power or will to deal with it. We (referring to the ruling class) So why bother?? |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 10:32am On Jan 14 |
GloriousGbola: Kidnapping is not as easy as it seems . Those kidnappers would need to plan the terrain they use , the means of collecting ransom and even hope their victims families will cooperate . U don’t even know if the police or soldier u are settling is not being investigated to lead them to u. |

BlueRayDick: How do you verify an address as a telco? Banks can afford to verify anything, afterall, you are paying for it. You have to pay 11k in your account, for your business account documents to be verified. Also, Children cannot open accounts on their own, except through their parents But for telcos, every umbrella on the street is registering SIM cards per hour. From kids to adults, all are eligible. There are also no supporting documents to verify anything when buying a SIM. Just NIN number, wey dem don dey run sef. Omoh! That NIN stuff is like a failed project in terms of security |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Itsrm(m): 10:48am On Jan 14 |
BlueRayDick: Absolutely. That's why I even said asking people not to pay ransom is easier said than done. God forbid my wife was kidnapped, I will sell everything I have to pay them. 1 Like |

Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 11:03am On Jan 14 |
izzou: U are making my point for me bro. Something has to give, the government needs to go tough; if it involves parents using their details to register for wards who are minor then so be it. We need to stop handling these things with kid gloves. If it comes to FG mandating telecos to verify address of subscribers at a cost that will be later dedcucted from the subscriber's account balance, then so be it! Nothing is impossible. See the N50 stamp duty banks are dedcuting, whether u like it or not u must pay. Na auto debit. If government can impose stuff like stamp duty on bank account holders and yearly proof of ownership fee on car owners just for the sake of driving government revenue, what stops government from imposing cost of verifying telecos subscribers address on subscribers just for their own safety? |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 11:04am On Jan 14 |
Emaprince: It is actually easier to track down a Facebook or Twitter account, than a phone call from a Virgin line. With 1000, i will register a Sim card, and pay an Almajiri child to pose as the owner, then use it to call someone and throw it away. How person wan take track this kind thing? |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 11:07am On Jan 14 |
BlueRayDick: People that recharge 100 naira is who you want to impose verification charge on? Are you even aware that in the core villages, there is no address; No street or number... Umuaku autonomous community, opposite Ichie Dike's compound. How is this address beneficial? And lastly, you have been to the North. You know how many hours it takes within a state to move from point A to point B. How will Telcos fund that process? Make dem spend 10k to verify house. Who go come pay the money? 1 Like |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 11:13am On Jan 14 |
izzou: It is doable. The reason the telcos are not doing this is because they make money from all users properly or improperly registered without any penalties. If the FG starts imposing fine for every improperly registered sim card on their networks, they will sit up immediately. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 11:17am On Jan 14 |
GloriousGbola: Even abroad, they have burner phones. These stuffs are quite different from banks. The only way to make this work would have been through the NIN, but that has lost its integrity. I don't know a country where you need to submit NIN, proof of house address, for you just to get a SIM and call. 1 Like |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 11:20am On Jan 14 |
izzou: They will use people who reside in those LGA's to verify the addresses. Yes I've been to the north and I know houses are not numbered but there are landmarks. I know Northerners use "angwa church", "angwa makaranta"..etc meaning "church area", "school area" to identify the closes landmark to a person's home. These things narrow down things for security agencies. Nobody reccharges N100 all year long na, u will always need to recharge to make calls or keep ur line active. This 2024 not 2004, even northerners in the remotest part of the north call their loved ones and they need airtime to make those calls. If the government places the responsibility on telecos to be responsible for this address verification of their suscribers, trust me they will surely figure things out. Telecos have invested so much in their business operation Nigeria to let their business suffer because they cannot proffer solution that minimal challenge |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 11:22am On Jan 14 |

Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 11:27am On Jan 14 |
The first problem is the FG bastardising the NIN process. Every Tom Dick and Harry can register you for NIN. That's the problem. Also, how come I can type any address to have an NIN? Why can't the FG verify that I truly live there, and I am a Nigerian? The NIN process is why kidnapping cannot stop till tomorrow. Let the Telcos breathe |

izzou:Wait, after each call, the sim is disposed? Cos if not, the location of the caller can be tracked. These people are not just ready to fight terrorism in this country. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 12:16pm On Jan 14 |
Emaprince: I read sometime ago that IMEI number can actually be used to track a call . So ideally our security agents should still be able to track the location of kidnappers with phone IMEI number even if they register their lines with 6 year old alamajiri details

Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Amoto94(m): 12:32pm On Jan 14 |
BlueRayDick:IMEI too can be changed and it will lead to a dead when tracked. To nab the kidnappers you'll need to combine different methods like checking the metadata of the kidnappers via the routers on the mast used in receiving/initiating the call, triangulating the GPS location and boots on to gather enough Intel within the location. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by iamoyindamola(m): 12:33pm On Jan 14 |
The best solution is to track the cash There are electronic cash that can be traced Another organisation should be set aside for this since DSS have turn local vigilante and our police is useless as ever Each time there's a ase of kidnapping and ransom this sect should provide the money for the victims and they track the money to arrest the culprits |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 12:34pm On Jan 14 |
Amoto94: All of these can be gathered via Law enforcement closely liaising with telecos . No ? |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Amoto94(m): 12:42pm On Jan 14 |
BlueRayDick:It can be gathered of course but you know how some of our law enforcement agents behave if you don't lobby/bribe them to do their work they will not take you serious. Recently my phone was stolen I reported to the nearby station providing them with my phone details the officer I met asked me to give him something which I refused to do he promised to get back to me we exchanged contacts. After several weeks of not hearing from I called him he to get an update he flatly replied me with no update. |

Sometimes criminals are not as intelligent as we make them seem in our mind ; it’s just the fact that they have a daring heart that makes some of them criminal . On Friday evening I was listening to Okey Bakassi’s programme on radio and they read a particular story of a car thief who was nabbed by security agents on his way to his village in Paiko Niger state to show his parents his “new car “….. Okey bakassi and the gang made jokes out of the story and it was a comic relief but okey bakassi asked a very important question while at it. He said he’s curious to know exactly what goes on in the mind of a criminal ; like how do they even think ? The reason he asked the questions was because of the funny way the thief was arrested . Like this guy stole a car , then faced his village and was determined on going to the village to show his parents he has arrived . But this same thief obviously had no money on him. The car developed fault on the way and in a bid to repair the the car, he proposed to selling the car spare tyre on the road . ( cos he didn’t have money to pay a mechanic ). It was strange for a traveller to advertise spare tyre for sale to another traveller , so the person he advertised to suspected foul play and had him arrested . That was how they now discovered the car was stolen. Now imagine, one would’ve thought a thief would plan his move so well that such 4ck up would not have happened . But they are not as intelligent as we think most times |
