Please one more thing, he has been working with multinational companies and presenting working closely with a US company called NAVIS, should that count as a US working experience? horlahsunbo225: 1 Like |

Elinosweet143: Is he seeking sponsorship? The company hiring and sponsoring him would have to prove that he possesses skills relevant to the position he is applying for that can’t be found in candidates within the US. Honestly, this’ll be difficult due to recent tech layoffs. There are candidates with years of experience with Fortune 500 companies vying for the same positions. 2 Likes |

Elinosweet143:I'll advise he should look at Europe because there are many talent in USA right now searching for job and moreover hiring someone from Nigeria means the company has to prove that nobody in USA can do that job which is very hard now TBH. Let him spread his application across Europe and USA. Also, he can look at studying Master's here then break into tech after. |

barbiegirl4luv:Atlanta is a big state and you might need to mention the city he currently reside to get any tangible help. Also, accommodating a total stranger is now difficult except he his a student. |

I am currently in the US doing my masters but I am scared of job opportunities for my course(rhetoric and Composition) and PR route .Many people are suggesting that I should switch to nursing as that one has more benefits than my course. I am confused on what to do |
Re: Living In The USA - Life Of An Immigrant Part 1 by horlahsunbo225(m): 8:41pm On Jan 11 |
Sisib15:If you're young, I'll advise you look into Canada or education route(you should be able to teach English or something). The people that can benefit from 🇺🇸 now are STEM. |
Re: Living In The USA - Life Of An Immigrant Part 1 by Taal17: 11:48pm On Jan 11 |
Sisib15:Look at research work attached to Universities, they get funding opportunities and can give sponsorships Also look at us based organisations and consultancies that do international development work. Most of these are in the East coast e.g IIE Look into test development in say literacy Civil service sector always needs teachers you can see their job openings or at least find out what you need to work as a teacher eg certs and see opportunities. Just have your strategy of places/ organisations to target so you track opportunities open to you. 2 Likes |

Re: Living In The USA - Life Of An Immigrant Part 1 by molybdenum0012: 9:04pm On Jan 15 |
Taal17: It's not been easy, got two interviews same week for same role, health physicist/radiological health specialist. The first interview went well as they only asked non-technical questions such as tell us about yourself as someone rightly suggested. I got the offer. But it's in another State, which means I will have to relocate to accept the offer. The pay is a little below 50k/annum. So, I feels it does not worth relocating for so I declined it. The second interview included technical and non technical questions. I did not prepare for the technical questions even though I managed to answer 2 questions correctly out of 5. For the non technical questions I answered all correctly. So, right now I don't know if they will offer me the job 'cos obviously I failed the technical questions aspect. I will just give them 2 weeks, if I did not hear from them I move on. I am also considering teaching in the high school, so already I have rewritten the license exam which I passed and I have like two interviews in the weeks to come. This is my 7th month here it has not been easy looking for job at all. I can't even count the number of applications I have sent out already with plenty regret emails. I am only working remotely with a non profit organization for now, and they only give me 20 hours per week of work. You can imagine how small the pay is. If nothing sup by next month, I might just get a small car to use as Uber in addition to my part time job. 3 Likes |

molybdenum0012: Hi, If you don’t mind me asking, Which state are you in, and where is the first job offer based? |
Re: Living In The USA - Life Of An Immigrant Part 1 by molybdenum0012: 10:10pm On Jan 15 |
Well, the job is in Southeastern State, Arkansas while I am in the Northeatern State. |
Re: Living In The USA - Life Of An Immigrant Part 1 by GambaOsaka: 10:25pm On Jan 15 |
molybdenum0012: Northeastern state is not a state name na 🙄. If the experience will make your CV look more attractive. I’ll take it provided it wouldn’t get you stranded financially. |
Re: Living In The USA - Life Of An Immigrant Part 1 by molybdenum0012: 10:44pm On Jan 15 |
GambaOsaka: It will sure going to make my experience solid, at least in the field. However, I am not a single man, I got family. So, I have to consider that too. It's in Massachusetts. |
Re: Living In The USA - Life Of An Immigrant Part 1 by GambaOsaka: 10:52pm On Jan 15 |
molybdenum0012: So if I get you right , it’s Arkansas to Massachusetts? Omo less than 50k is too small. |
Re: Living In The USA - Life Of An Immigrant Part 1 by molybdenum0012: 10:58pm On Jan 15 |
GambaOsaka: Of course it's too small to relocate that distance if you are a family man, but not bad for a single guy though. It's like starting all over again. You gat to find a new house to rent etc. If the pay is like 80k and above , I would definitely risk it. For similar role here they pay 79k and above. But I learn cost of living over their in Arkansas is cheaper though |
