Bros, while it is great to keep your passwords private. Me, I have made a exception. My wife and kids know my atm pins. I insist they know.
Someone I knew died suddenly few years back. His family was stuck, no money for immediate needs. Their saving grace was one of the kids that remembered one time the man sent him with the driver to get some money.
They tried the pin and it worked, giving them access to over 30m in that aza. That was what they used for burial preparations, upkeep etc until they were able to go through the legal process of unlocking other assets. Note it might take as much as 2 years to get authorization documents from probate registry and it cost a lot of money.

I wish you all the best sir🙏🏽

Exactly.... An atm card is the pathway for all Mobile and online transactions💯

If you don't want to stress yourself, just deactivate your atm card and rest. Then you have to be going to the bank anytime you want to withdraw money.

However, some banks won't allow you to withdraw any amount less than 150k inside the bank shaaa
If my aged mum who does not have ATM or do mobile banking and ussd needs 50k, she will head to the bank book a turn at the deposit queue then head over and withdraws 150k. She thereafter moves to the queue and deposit 100k back to her account. She no get time for wahala. All these fraud can be devastating.
The thing is that whenever these fraud happen, the banks will tell you that you compromised your card pin or Internet banking password even when it is from their end

first of all.... Nobody on earth can steal your money through bank app or ussd without your password, unless they got it from you in one way or the other without your consent⚠️

Secondly, to strengthen your protection... You can simply lock your phone and alert sim card. That way, when you loose your phone nobody can break into your phone, talkless of performing any transaction...absolutely nobody♂️
You never jam. Don't just pray to be a victim. It is possible. A person(a fraudster or a thief to be precised) can wipe out your life savings by just mere using your phone, even without you giving the person your pin.

Aged people are an exception in all banks in Nigeria⚠️

They can collect even 1k with their withdrawal book in the bank anytime anyday...

I used my kids' birthdays as my sim pin, phone code, bank apps transactional pins and atm cards pins. When I noticed that my wife wasn't interested in knowing any of it, I made her own bank transactional pins the same as mine. And again wrote everything down on a piece of paper including the apps lock patterns and bank apps usernames and passwords. Showed it to her and showed her where I keep it in the house.

says who?😁

Any SIM linked to any of my financial accounts and other important things of high priority has simlock activated. Anytime the phone powers off and is back on you must input the SIM’s pin after unlocking the phone with passcode.

Stealing my phone, you are left with a brick because it can never be used except you know my activation lock details which leaves you with only one option to profit from it, which is to salvage it for spare parts.

My sim without knowing its PINCODE is just a useless chip.
How did you set it?

So you don’t do mobile banking ? The problem is not the SIM card you use for your bank account but mobile banking app you use for transactions can be manipulated when you loose your phone.

My formula
Always freeze your account with your mobile app unfreeze it when you wants to do transactions in this case if someone steal your phone and try to use your bank app he will not succeed
How do freeze your bank app? I want to try it on mines

I recently lost my debit card and within the space of 30 minutes, I got a debit alert.

My only saving grace was that I only had. 1.2k in the account

Them commot everything plus the kobo

The chance that the person who will come across any lost debit card or phone is a yahoo boy is very high these days because almost all the youths are now into internet fraud. They have sold their souls to the devil

You loose your money because you're actually DUMB, not because something is wrong with the Nigerian banking system⚠️

If you're not technically inclined, please avoid using ATM cards and nothing will happen to money if you loose your phone!!!!

But, if you're smart and technically exposed like me.... First thing you do is to lock your alert sim with a unique password, then proceed to lock with your atm cards, bank apps and ussd with passwords. To be on a safe side, you can use one long unique password for all of them, linking them to just one mobile network which you have already passworded too.

And please do not share this details with anyone, whether with a friend, family or scammers impersonating bank staffs.

That way when you loose your phone, nobody can even access your mobile line talkless of your bank account😆😆

I have lost my phone severely times and nothing happened to my bank account 💯

How? I went to Nigeria last month and since I don't have a Nigerian number, I used my cousin's number to register.

Does it mean she has access to my funds?
Yes, unfortunately for you, fortunately for your cousin if that cousin is of questionable character.

You need to get your PUK no from your network provider, then you will use the no to set your PIN on you SIM Settings.

I have partial solution to this...all my bank accounts are tied to just 1 SIM card and that SIM card is in a cheap torchlight phone which I keep at home permanently grin

An added security measure is that my SIM card is locked with a PIN code

Some people just naturally lower their guards and blame everyone else but their carelessness. My bank mobile apps itself is passworded & privately hidden in my phone. To start with, I must dial my code to make the bank app visible. Before even entering the login password to access the app for use. Both my phone & my alert sim have pin lock. My online bank has hard token. I have a special account for online transactions & anything that requires my atm card.

It's impossible ma... as far as there's no ATM linked to that account, it simple shows that it was done by a bank staff.

Hahahahaha.

Jokes.

Nigeria is the only country in the world where some robbers carry POS, transfer the victims money and it cannot be traced later.

On two occasion over a 3yr period money was withdrawn from my GTB account by unknown persons.

One used a cheque and one was with a cloned ATM.

The cheque was definitely an inside job.

GTB had no interest in assisting us in resolving the matter.

If you haven't heard of such things like this in Nigeria, then you shouldn't be commenting on the "safety" of our banking system.

The same banking system that is rife with staff that will alert robbers when an unsecured individual comes to make a withdrawal in the millions.

Oga. Na Joke you dey Joke

You don't hav to go out with your bank sim...

Just find a small phone and drop the sim inside and drop it inside to receive alert

Den u can use make use of ur Bank app on ur andriod or IPhone...

U can operate ur bank app on any device

The banking system is not weak, the customers are ignorant.
And some staff are dishonest. The two ways you can lose your money in a Nigerian bank account.

what does dishonest staff have to do with losing one's phone...is it the bank staff that lost the phone? Nairalanders need to learn to stay on topic, we are talking about someone who loses his phone.

FTR (since you want to go in that direction) so long as your organisation is manned by Nigerians there will be dishionest staff because they are Nigerians and Nigerians are inherently dishonest.

For those who is asking how to freeze and unfreeze account with mobile app. See picture

I use Stanbic IBTC and they have option to freeze and unfrozen account without going to the bank and that’s why I put my serious savings . When you freeze your account you can only receive credit and cannot debit until you unfreeze even with your ATM card you cannot withdraw or do any debit until you unfreeze.

However. It requires you to use a different password not the same as the one you use to login to your bank app. Those who dont have mobile app can go to the bank to freeze account until when they are ready for debit transaction they can go to the bank to unfreeze

They thought the owner of the account is dead so a thief that works there stole the money⚠️

You don't need to make noise with them on Monday... If you can get a good lawyer or a SAN then drag them to court and demand for damages.

You could make tens of millions from this i tell you🥺

what kind of question is this? what exactly are you asking? how what? this is the problem of ignorance and poor education with Nigerians as i stated earlier....you ask a question and it is not clear what exactly it is you are asking...its no surprise you dont know how to use a bank account.

If you can't explain what you mean by your statement, then you are igno rant.

You said banks are not weak but customers are...

He asked you what do you mean by this statement since many customers don't share their infos whatsoever but they still fall victims.

Stop forming enlightened when you clearly not enlightened, your inability to pass a clear message shows you are not.

The reason why I quoted you is because something happened sometimes ago.

I received a debit alert for ATM card on my account, this is an account I didn't link to ATM or ussd transactions, being someone that monitor is finances I quickly sent a mail to them and moved my money out of the account.

They responded and quickly did the needful because all these banks like doing eyeservice when dealing with customers with high value.

Now, imagine I did not pay attention to that debit or notice it, they would have used that for their selfish interest.

Imagine requesting for ATM card for an account that the owner did not request for ATM card.

So, that bring up his question about banks because some of their staff are cro oks.
