Hello all,

Please I drilled a new borehole for my village house.

According to the geologist who did the survey, we'd get water at 65 meters. So I paid him to bring drillers to drill 65m well.

After the whole drilling and installation, and flushing of the well, I noticed that each time I pump the water, the well brings out dirty brown water for like 20 minutes before it starts bringing out clean water.

And the next time I pump the water, it repeats the same way. I have contacted the drilling company and they are not saying anything useful.

Please I will appreciate contributions from experienced people on how to navigate this challenge.

Please @mods, or the mod in charge of this section, kindly help me push this to the front page. I really need opinions.

Thanks.
Don't worry your self since it's new. I experienced it with a borehole on one of my site. With continuous usage it will flush out all material in suspension and become clean.

How can you drill a borehole and immediately start using it's water.
You're supposed to pump that shit nonstop for 10hrs minimum, only after this YOU CAN BE GUARANTEED WHITE WATER ANYTIME!

Mine is doing that too. I live in Nsukka and I sank the bore hole for a while and it pumps dirty water first. The engineer that sank the bore hole said it's as a result of the metal rust in the pipes below the ground

That's another thing.

Why didn't they use plastic casing?

Always do a geophysical survey BEFORE any borehole drilling.

Water is everywhere.
Your community needs govt subsidy or intervention to drill a standard borehole using hardcore industrial drillibg companies.

There's a place called ekpoma in EdO, it suffers same fate because the water bed is so so so so down in the earth over there, it's not a project any private house can undergo alone.
So the govt drills their boreholes in selected areas for the people.

Would be next borehole owners to be, no matter your location target between 80 to 120m.

In some location in Imo , Abia, Anambra and Enugu state, some borehole depth goes as deep as 150 to 250meters. Before you hit clear water basin

If you want permanent solution, try and reline it and do flushing.
The borehole is not well cased down.

Thank my later after doing this.

Listen to this person. Don't go and drill again or waste your money with promises of a better outcome. You'll still have same results.
That's how new borehole is supposed to be. The reason you are noticing the dirt is probably you didn't sank the borehole when starting the foundation of your property. If you did, the bricklayers would have used the dirty part of the water because they work every day which flushes the water regularly.
By the time the building is completed you will get fresh and clean water.
So don't panic. Just keep using it every day.
Mine was the same. Sank the borehole first before molding bricks.

Exactly what i wanted saying. Even we up north with way harder grounds, had the submersible pump run for 12hrs non-stop from when it was sunk into the hole.

I advise you open a small garden in your house and use the first 20 minutes of pumping the water to water the garden. Nothing should be wasted, please.

I have pumped the water for more than three hours nonstop before. Yet this continues.

When you start pumping at first, the water is dirty but clears after like 10 to 20 minutes. And the water remains clean like that for the rest of the day.

But once I try to pump again the following day, it starts with very dirty water again. And continues for like another 10 to 20 minutes before it clears and becomes clean.
Similar experience with mine.

Yeah... Even though the metal casing is even costlier than the plastic casing and my engineer says the the plastic casing may break in the long run from the water pressure, especially for bore holes with very deep depth. That's the kind of boreholes we have in Nsukka because the water table is very deep and the pressure is high.

There are thick UPVC pipes that can withstand great amount of pressure.

And even at that they can get metal pipes whose inside are lined with polyvinyl materials to forestall against rust.
