ositadima1: Naira from around 800 to 1400 now , that’s a loss of 75% since may/june , I hope my maths is correct Returns need to be above 75% for investment in the nse to be ahead , I think most stocks have given that so far , but will it continue ? Beating devaluation and inflation in Nigeria is an unending battle with naira assets 7 Likes |

Streetinvestor2: It will sell at a premium thereby bringing your yield to about 13.5%, which is about the going for a 3 year bond 1 Like |

There's no way Dangote's refinery will sell only to the Nigerian Market. When he starts shipping to neighbouring countries it'll definitely be priced in USD, that's one source of dollar inflow. You can hedge in dollars first thing by 8am, but you can equally afford to stick to some naira for appreciation. Stability in supply of jet fuel brings stability in foreign trips logistics, hence more dollar inflow. I expect the naira to appreciate(maybe no to 650) as Tax boss as hinted by the end if tge year, especially if they removed that custom bottlenecks on import/export business. Don't bet against the naira. Except Bulaba is incapacitated! 1 Like |

Streetinvestor2: First, the 16% there is the already set coupon price/biannual interest price. However, your yield could be more or less depending on what is decided at that auction. Yes 2027 is 3 years from now. Since it's 10yr bond, it means the bond was first auction in 2017. The word reopening there signifies that it's not fresh. It has been existing. Yes that applies to all of them where you see reopening. 3 Likes |

"Those who are right do not argue, those who argue ain't right..." What's the essence of bragging in a faceless platform? Who are you trying to impress? Have you asked why it's just few people that have access to my email? Real great people allow people to do alot of findings/guessing about them but in a faceless platform like this ... There's no need for that Like I said earlier newbies "be careful about stockpicks ... " 2 Likes |

Streetinvestor2: Oga Emma has answered your question professionally but let me practicalize it. If you want to buy the bond with N10 Million for example @16% and u have 3 years left. Buying at premium means that you will pay more for the bond. Let's assume the amount u paid was N11 Million. This means that every time your coupon is paid, it will be 16% of N10 million and not the N11 Million that you paid. because the face value of your bond is N10 Million and not N11 Million. At the end of the tenor or maturity, you will get your last coupon payment and N10 Million. You will not get the N11 million that you paid initially. By the time you aggregate all your earnings and match it against the N11 Million that you paid for the investment, your real interest over the period which we call yield will not be 16% but will be less than that. That's the assumption of around 13.5% that Oga Emma said. Since from the example, you want to invest N10 million @16% for 3 years remaining out of the 10 years bond; the price to pay for this is the N11 Million. Your principal of N10 Million is what you get on maturity and not the N11 Million price. For the purpose of this explanation, the figures quoted are mere examples and not the real results of any calculations. I hope this helps 17 Likes 5 Shares |
