I once gave out my car to a friend to use and go to a different state,it was during fuel scarcity and I had a full tank
This woman pampers cars eeh, wakes up 4am every morning to wash car and goes to mechanic at any slightest sign of anything so I wasn't worried at all leaving my car with her.

Good day NL.
A friend of mine borrowed my car few days ago to help ease movement for him. I happily gave him the car because I understood the need he had.

For precautionary reasons, I don't let my fuel get below quarter tank. Each time it gets there, i ensure I top it up.

When I gave this guy my key, I told him clearly to ensure he adds enough fuel as he's leaving my place and not to allow the fuel guage gets below quarter.

My car spent some days with him. he brought back the car and complained that my car has stopped on the way several times and each time it stops, he'd have to buy a little fuel and add before it moves.

Second, he brought back the car with scratches on my front bumper. I learned from someone that he had moved on terrible roads with the car. I was told he went to places that other people had parked because their vehicles can't enter.

I asked how much fuel he bought and he told me he bought a few litres of fuel. This got me furious because this is a journey that if I am to go, I'd have to buy over 40L of fuel.

Third, he brought it back with a faulty fuel gauge, my fuel gauge has never been faulty since I bought my car. It was not possible for me to know the fuel level at the time he returned the car.

I had to go fix my car because I had a need to go somewhere with it. My mechanic opened to tank to check why the car was stopping as well as the fuel gauge. To my surprise, my tank was terribly empty. It was dry.

I had to buy so much fuel as well as fix the fuse of the fuel gauge. As for the scratches, I will have to leave them like that. The funny thing is that my friend cannot even tell me he is sorry.

I have resolved in my mind, I WILL NEVER GIVE ANYBODY MY CAR AGAIN. NO.
ITS ONLY ME THAT CAN TAKE CARE OF MY CAR. I AM THE ONE MAINTAINING IT AND I KNOW EHERE IT PAINS.

what do you think about this?
Do you give out your car to your friends to use especially in this hard economy where fuel, maintenance and cost of parts are on the high side.
Before I'll lend anyone my car, that person will have to be God or the angel in charge of book of life.
Bro, you willingly gave him, there's no case here. Na next time no go happen.

A friend requested for my car. I gave him and he went to a terrible road. Damaged the car shaft and came back to tell me my car is safe on a lonely road. I got a friend with his car to assist in towing the car to mechanic workshop. We were shocked to found the car in a terrible road. Some years after, I needed to visit my in laws and got no car with me but my wife insisted I should borrow a car from any of my pals. I reluctantly did. A bus rammed unto me and one M class why waiting for traffic light. Bus driver jumped out through a broken windscreen and ran away. I called my friend. He said I should manage it if it can still go since it only damaged driver side. Lesson learnt accident and people's attitudes are inevitable.

The only thing that i consider slightly equivalent to lending someone your only car is 'lending him your well-behaved wife". If the wife is troublesome, a good car is obviously much more valuable. It seems to me that the guy in question deserves that level of sacrifice from you maybe because of sacrifices he has made for to in the time past. Just swallow and move on.

I have a friend that I love to be around, a few min with him always feels like heaven. But anytime he's around, I must prepared to take care of every mess because he's a nonchalant person and something must be fixed when he leaves.

We all have someone like that.... Sorry bro.

I can only give out my car to any of my brothers. Not to any friend. There was a time my younger brothers car engine knocked and his job demands he comes to work in a car or uses uber. He was spending a lot on uber. I gave him my car for three weeks. Within tat three weeks, he sold the old car, bought another one, fixed all the minor issues I planned fixing in my car.

some years back I borrowed a so-called friend who told me he just needed it to dash to a function within and was going to return it before evening, but till evening I didn't see him. i called his line a couple of times, but he didn't pick till the next day. in the morning at 11am he drove in with his wife begging that they went outside Lagos and could not make it back. I collected my car and said no problem , i guess they blew air into the car tank to return back to lag, because the tank was clean and empty (thank God the car was in tact anyway), given its a strong Japanese baby the reason God helped me the fuel pump did not go. Some friends, eh, be careful giving them such items.

You've already made up your mind by not giving anyone your car again. Ño one can take good care of your care except you yourself.

I only have one friend I can entrust my car into his hand, and it's because we use the same type of car. The rest, I will dedicate my time to drive them to wherever they want to go freely.

Consider yourself lucky.... take this as a lesson. What if he really damaged your car? If he can't buy fuel do you think he will even help pay for the repair? Anything you lend him .... expect to pay for any damage or to replacement. Lend to thise who you know are responsible... who takes good care of their own stuff .... and of others.

Driving ur car by urself is the best because u know how painful it will be for u to fix any fault. During Christmas I requested a friend to drive me and my family to beach...I don't really understand Lagos roads that well so to avoid traffic offenses. This guy was doing James bond with my car why I say with him....to cut the story short, when we got home and I woke up the next day my front tyre deflated, after removing it and checking i discovered that my alloy ream was in bad shape(bend) at two spots, opposite sides of the wheel ....he enter potholes with force i believed. I was not happy although I have got it fixed.

You made two mistakes.

Firstly, you thought the guy is a friend but he is not.

Secondly, you have not learnt to set boundaries.

A boundary is a limit you set for others to ensure your property, time, money etc are not misused or violated.

That guy is not a friend to you. He is most filled with envy because of your blessing.

Let me add that he should not be within your circle.

Make friends with those who are moving in the same direction with you in life, not one who'd rather destroy what you have to drag you low to his own level.
