There are strong indications that leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, seems to have abandoned his secession agenda.

In a recent letter conveyed by his brother, Prince Emmanuel after a meeting with the IPOB leader at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters, Kanu was quoted to have said that he is not opposed to any “genuine restructuring” of Nigeria along the lines of the 1963 Constitution.

Kanu insisted that those opposed to the holistic restructuring of Nigeria should have a change of heart.

Kanu’s letter partly reads:
“We are not averse to the genuine restructuring of the country. We know that the country cannot grow or make progress under the current unworking unitary structure. The facts are clear for all to see.

“Our position remains the same as our submission in the presence of Prof. Ben Nwabueze, and Evangelist Elliot Ugochukwu-Uko on 30th August 2017 at the meeting with the South East Governors in Enugu. We have no reason to add or subtract from our position six years ago.

“We reiterate that we are not opposed to a consensual but wholesome restructuring of the country along the 1963 constitution.

We need to join hands together to build a better society, a system that works. If things work well, there won't be agitation anywhere - East, West, North, or South.

You make a lot of sense but KANU must pay for his sins. It's too late, He ran away when he was given bail, his tribalism his worse, if not for the resilience of Nigerians, this country will be at war now. What about the officers he ordered his foot soldiers to kill? how many people have been killed by his utterance? What of the innocent children orphaned by the results of his actions and his careless call for the destruction of the state?...I pray he rotten in jail cool

It's important to note that the issue of restructuring the country was one of the main drivers behind MNK's agitation. However, it's worth mentioning that there were differences in opinion from the Northern part of the country. If a mutually beneficial solution can be found and the country is restructured in a fair and just way, it's possible that the agitation could come to an end.

God bless Mazi Nnamdi Kanu

Well, if Kanu is now saying this, then it is a good thing. The whole secession idea is just foolish and impractical at this point.

Nigeria is One, and nobody is going anywhere.

Our task is to devise ways to make the country work for everyone, by hook or by crook.

Where are you running to?

Meanwhile, I wonder what his Prime Minister in Finland thinks about this new ideological direction.

wink

Something tells me he would very angry with this development. Kanu had better watch his back in that prison.

If Nnamdi Kanu was going to abandon the Biafran struggle, he would come out and say it. His brother never said so, he said he supports restructuring

However, it is important to note that Nigeria can never be restructured, the North will never allow it in a million years

When you look at the constitution of Nigeria and what must be done to restructure Nigeria, you will see that it is easier to raise a dead man

Nigeria can never be restructured. What must be done is to conduct referendum so that those who wish to continue with Nigeria can do so, while those who wish to have independence can go their way

But anyone who thinks that any good will come from "one Nigeria by force" is only living in a fools paradise

Your Nigeria that has been one since the 1970 the war ended has only gotten worse since then. It is today poverty capital of the world, 8th most insecure country on earth and an all round failure

Nigeria is a long failed British colonial contraption and it is time for us to go our different ways. It was a mistake for the British to have ever brought us together
