See the tomatoes I bought yesterday, due to recent hike in everything,I decide to store up food for the year to avoid being caught unawares. Although it hasn't been easy at all but with a man with four children,u have no option but to ensure u have the food at home and keep everyone moving. Below is the tomatoes which cost me 15k at Deidei Market Abuja. 42 Likes 6 Shares

There is a reason they are called " PERISHABLES " in the forst place. Who buys tomatoes for preservation for a year. In atomic chemistry and physics, a phenomenon exists that is called half-life. By principle, it also exists in biological sciences. The half-life principle when it comes to food and its kinds theoritisizes that the quality of all kinds of foods in life reduces in quality each day until ut becomes ordinary shaft ( death process ) What i am saying in essennce is that it is to your great disadvantage to buy raw foods for long term storage because the nutritional components of the foods becomes broken and broken down by each day. You will eat it but what makes it nutritous and nourishing for the body completely breaks down molecularly and by the time you eat it after prolonged storage the butrients in it would have diminished by as much as 50-70% hence life by this principle encourages continous work so no one stores and refused to work further I am saying aby storage of tomatoes, vegetables, pepper for long term is a disadvantage. 165 Likes 11 Shares |

FarmPlanetNG: Are u a doctor, even if u are but u eat iced fish and all sorts. Storing of food didn't start today therefore, keep ur education to urself. The Egyptians stored food,Americans do and I don't care how u see it. I am purely someone who buys in large quantity and that didn't start today and neither is it going to stop soon. So keep ur advice for now. The economic situation don't even understand the nutritional aspect of ur talk for now. 198 Likes 16 Shares |

Nice2023: I posted it to deliver the ones you are going to miseducate. I did patiently explain it to you scientifically. So asking me of fishes are atored using ice or not ? That is because the time it takes for the nutriotional contents to dissolve is different from one food to another. For tomatoes, it is extremely short, same for all vegetables. I am a believer in food storage, but excessive food storage that preserves the food nutients is one that must be studied before applying. Example preserving tomatoes by grinding and places like sesame oil over it preserves as much of its butrients as possible. I am never against the concept of food storage but embracing the concepts as you are brandisging it is nothing but lack of education. The money you are trying to save is far more thab the equvalent of buying it regularly at the peak quality form. Whether you buy in bulk or not thats your headache. I cant remember the year i bought in bits either. But buying tonatoes to store for a years use is simply pure lack of education 37 Likes 2 Shares |

Its a good buy. Here in Lagos the women will be shouting," I got a basket of tomatoes 38k bla bla.. we don't know if they are saying the truth. 5 pieces of tomatos is 200 naira. They are ripping us in this Lagos. Better to even be buying in bulk but for singles like us, it will get spoilt if not used up on time. That is why we keep buying the quantity we can easily use up while it's still fresh. Nigerias epileptic power supply is not friendly with perishable foods. Your wife is a lucky woman. God please give me this kind of caring husband who knows it's his duty to cater for his family in Jesus name I pray. Amen. 46 Likes 5 Shares |

Quite cheap. Why not blend two-third of the tomatoes to conserve freezer space. Buying is one part, storage and preservation tends to be harder. 26 Likes 1 Share |

SeeWahala: U too dey follow his kind of mentality. Our forefathers stored food and they used different methods. Read below: MADGETECH BLOG 7 Ancient Methods of Food Preservation Posted on November 16, 2021 by MadgeTech Marketing Since the beginning of time, humans had to get creative when it came to survival. Ancient cultures around the world had to harness nature for local food sources while acclimating to the climate. Whether hunting or harvesting, food preservation allowed man to plan ahead and form a food supply. This was not only crucial for survival, but also for putting down roots and establishing communities. As ancient cultures were adapting, they discovered techniques that have now become basic methods of food preservation. Drying The earliest form of curing meat was dehydration using the sun or wind. Dehydration dates back to the Middle East and oriental cultures that dried foods in the hot sun as early as 12,000 B.C. In regions without enough sunlight or wind, “still houses” were built and heated using fire to dry fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Curing As a form of dehydration, early cultures used salt to help dry out foods. The curing of meats and seafood not only preserves the taste and texture but also prevents the growth of harmful pathogens that need moisture to survive. Freezing In climates that experience freezing temperatures, freezing was an obvious method of preservation. Food was buried underground or in the snow for preservation throughout the winter. This method led to the construction of “icehouses” or “iceboxes” for storage until the 1800’s when artificial refrigeration was invented. Fermenting A valuable method of preservation, fermentation prevents food from spoiling by using microorganisms to destroy harmful pathogens. The production of acid or alcohol during fermentation creates vitamins making fermented foods more nutritious and flavorful. Pickling A form of fermentation, pickling preserves foods in vinegar produced by starches or sugars. Pickling may have originated when food was placed in soured wine or beer to preserve it. It’s believed Indians were the first people in Asia to make cucumber pickles more than 3,000 years ago. Sugaring Known to the earliest cultures, sugaring preserves food in honey or sugar. The sugar not only sweetens but draws out water from harmful pathogens, which dehydrates and destroys them. The ancient Greeks and Romans mastered the technique of using heated sugar and fruit pectin which we have come to know as jams, jellies, and preserves. Canning Dating back to the 1790s, canning is the newest method of food preservation which involves the heating and cooling of food in jars or cans. Heating destroys harmful pathogens, while cooling creates a vacuum seal to prevent contamination and deterioration. 5 Likes 3 Shares |

Nice2023: Oga, read to learn and understand. Food has different types and are stored in different ways especially as you claim you want to store some yourself for more than 6 months at a time Fruits and vegetables are not to be stored frozen for extended periods of time because they will get bad no matter what. If you think we are talking thrash then go ahead, you will learn 11 Likes |
