The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike has approved the sum of N30.9 billion for a massive school rehabilitation projects in the federal capital.

Dr Danlami Hayyo, Mandate Secretary, Education Secretariat, FCT Administration, stated this at a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to Hayyo, the gesture is a testament to the priority the minister places on the education sector.

He said out of the fund, N13.3 billion was approved for the renovation and rehabilitation of 40 schools, which would be completed in 100 days.

The mandate secretary said that N13.1 billion was also provided for an accelerated whole-school rehabilitation approach, beginning with 18 schools.

Hayyo said the school rehabilitation approach was designed to rehabilitate the entire school infrastructure and facilities including toilets, hostels, dining as well as the provision of furniture and water.

He further said four schools would also be renovated in the second batch of the whole-school rehabilitation approach at the cost of N4.5 billion.

He listed the schools to include Government Science Technical College, Kwali; Government Science Technical College, Maitama; Government Secondary School, Kuje and Government Secondary School, Wuse II.

According to him, the projects are expected to be completed before May 2024, adding that it would be part of the project that would be commissioned by President Bola Tunu to mark his one year in office.

The mandate secretary also commended the minister for addressing the lingering crisis between primary school teachers and the Area Council Secretariat.

He explained that the minister has committed to settle 40 per cent of the N7 billion minimum wage arrears owed to primary school teachers by the six area councils.

Hayyo further said the area councils would settle the remaining 60 per cent of the amount, which would be paid within the next three months.

FCT should watch Wike closely.

For every project Wike does, there is a "thank you" project somewhere for him.

For every flyover he built in Rivers, Julius Berger built either HyperCity or a complex for him.

Why don't we have a caption like:

Wike Approves ₦‎30.9 Billion For Rehabilitation Of ('X' number of) FCT Schools?

Maybe it's just 2 schools now who knows? and ₦‎31b could just vanish like that.

When they dish out this public statement, they sound like they are working not knowing that a substantial amount has entered his pocket.

I dare him to make the content of the contract awarded public and also tell the public how much is released per time, you will all pick up a stone and fire him.

Wike is notorious with looting, the guy will use his crocodile voice to deceive people meanwhile he is causing havoc behind the scene

Money dey this country oooo but in the wrong hands.

Our problem in this country is mismanagement of our resources.

Our brothers and sisters outside of the country repatriated more money than the national budget for many years in a row now.

So basically if the national budget is 1m, our families abroad repatriated 1.2m extra making it 2.2m

But our politicians can't stop looting.. they relooted Abacha's returned Loot..

No project of substance.. we don't have 24hrs power supply... our road networks are bad.. our school systems from primary to tertiary is bad..

Multinational companies are leaving the country.

When you need to pay your kids school fees abroad or your supplier in China..

Bank tells you they don't have any dollar but direct you to BDC. You go to BDC and buy dollar to deposit in the "bank" . The bank turns around and sells that dollar to BDC and the circle continues.

Now tell me, why can't we just walk in our bank and request for a wire transfer and the bank deduct the money in naira and wire the money to the respective recipient abroad? It's not like our bank will carry that cash we deposited to go and deposit the cash abroad .. they still conduct the transaction electronically?

So why don't they conduct the transaction electronically from the get go instead of the merry go round with the BDC?

Kidnappers will kidnap someone and collect ransom via wire transfer or have the victim empty their bank account to the kidnappers account..

The police find it hard to track the kidnappers? Why can't the police work with the telecom companies to track the cell phone of the victim and the kidnappers? Why can't the police trace the bank account that received the ransom and arrest the owner of the account?

People are missing daily but police can't work with telecom company to track their cellphone.. check their last few calls and text and query the last individuals the victim communicated with to get some lead.

A politicians will loot and just share bags of rice during election and people come online to praise them instead of demanding good governance.

Politicians will share Okada as empowerment during election then ban Okada when they are sworn in.

We all know what's right in this country but will not do it.

Hmmm..... all this completed by May. Don't they have to do an assessment? ... what needs to be done in each school? ... furniture needed ... equipment ... etc. .... list the requirements. .... set a date for contractors to bid ... then select the contractors who will take some time to get materials ... equipment and skilled workers before finally starting to work. All thus to start ... and complete by May.
