You can go ahead, most dollar funds returns are in the range of 5.5 -7.5%. They all operate the same way because the underlying asset is majorly eurobonds.

However, in terms of initial deposits Norrenberger accepts less than $1,000 and also accepts naira deposits at a conversion rate slightly above the black market rate on the day of the transaction.

Yes, fixed-income fund, actually even balance fund or equity funds do but it requires that you be vigilant and know when to pull out.

Ah. Oga they don't o. I would advice anyone going into such funds to be very wary.

I opened an equity based fund few days back and had been making some pretty impressive gains, but yesterday apparently the drop in share prices wiped out not just gains but part of my principal!! 🥺😣

That is why I said though they can give value also but you must be vigilant especially equity funds.
It's just like buying stocks directly. If you have the patient on the long run you can get value.

Like you said and I normally advice my clients if you are new in investment world, it's always better to start with MMF and fixed income funds. That is not to say balance or equity funds are bad investments.
The most important thing is to know your risk tolerance and stick to it and don't allow the euphoria of the market influence you so much as to ignore your risk tolerance no matter the gains a risky investment promise to give

This year, try diversifying your investment to a more stable currency.

Explore balanced funds and equity funds this year especially if your investment horizon is between 1 to 2 years, they had an impressive performance last year and still hold lots of potentials.

Do something different this year in your investment journey and watch the results.

MMF is not the only mutual fund in the world!

If you diversified your assets to USD when i made this post, you would have made more that 15% flat.

Good afternoon House, if you are using Stanbic IBTC Asset Management be sure to regularly keep your records and Statements of account, please. I log in to my app almost every day and I see what happens there always. I checked daily throughout the holiday period because I wanted to add to my subscription but I did not generate and keep the statements.

I discovered my that the interest on my MMF account was debited in on 31 December 2023 but not credited to my account or reinvested. I sent them a mail in that regard but they did not reply so I had to call them.

They picked my call and couldn't tell me anything tangible than it was they credited me twice and this had to debit me. When I informed her that same happened in my other MMF account, she said it happened to all their MMF account. I instead mine was not correct from my observation and she asked for the proof/evidence that I don't have.

Also, last week made a deposit that was to be credited to my MMF account last week, the money was credited to my GIF account instead. That was their mistake not mine. Instead of them to just say sorry and rectify the problem, the kept lying and insisting that I made the payment to GIF collection account that was they credited it there. However, the transaction receipt is with me. On the receipt, my MMF account number is clearly stated in the Narration space and I rightly sent the money to MMF collection account. Mistakes are normal but why would you lie and insist on something you are not sure about instead of just rectifying the mistake.

I used to enjoy their services but now, I don't understand what is happening with them now again. This year, I will be downloading my statement at least monthly to avoid all these stories.

@freeman67.

Were you able to resolve this issue and also how was that of this January ending?. Mine was credited for January ending.

No, it wasn't. They insisted they have added it. So, I had to let that one go for my own peace of mind.

Like I said earlier, I have decided to start downloading and keeping my statements. I did that for end of December and for January after it's been added. I discovered the profit/interest they posted or claimed to add is not complete.

I used Asset Management Companies. The 2 others are FBNQUEST and United Capital. I have never had any discrepancy with the interests posted and added by these other except Stanbic.

Stanbic used to be my best/favourite of them all... I was on the verge of moving my pension from my present PFA before I discovered this. So, I now know I should not try that.

I operate 2 MMF accounts with them. The 2 have these discrepancies of figures not adding up in their favour.

All dollar funds operates the same way except if you want to do dollar placement instead, it's similar to fixed deposit where you have a fixed rate for a specified tenor. Your capital and the agreed interest is guaranteed and paid to you at the end of the tenor.
Chat me up if you opt for dollar placement.

Having dollars is just a hedge against devaluation/inflation outside that having dollars is not an investment per se. If things were normal in Nigeria dollar would be just another currency.

If you can get the dollars, a dollar fund or dollar placement is not bad but if it's difficult getting dollars, having good stocks with great potential and a good dividend payment policy can also be a good alternative.

Why is the MMF rate still poor across board despite the increase in TB rate? sad.

Rate increase for Tbills is less than a week. The effect of the increase rate will definitely affect MMF positively, just be patient. As the fund mangers revalue their underlying assets with the current rate the increase in rate will be obvious on MMF.

If you check this morning Stanbic MMF has moved from 10.81% to 11.53% as at this morning

Here is my preference as per mutual funds:
MMF - Stanbic MMF curreently 11.73%
Dollar fund - Norrenbeger currently 9.2% (They accept less than $1000 and could accept cash at the point of deposit)
Fixed income fund - SFS Capital currently 11.02%

What is your investing horizon? Because if you want to keep the funds for more than a year, I recommend that you examine other asset classes, as inflation is at an all-time high; nevertheless, if your investment horizon is less than a year, you can proceed with an MMF investment.

I am glad that people like you are taking the bold step of diversifying their investments to other denominations to hedge against any potential naira devaluation. Before you proceed with the dollar investment, ask them what their benchmark is, what their last year's return was, what their current return is, and what valuation method they use.

First of all I was using Stanbic IBTC alone before I had to start using United Capital and FBNQUEST. The last two are more transparent in with their interest pattern.

Stanbic has always maintained a kind complicated and deceptive interest pattern that customers will never understand. Before they will say it was daily. Later, they say it's monthly. Yet, it is not separate from the the principal. If you want to be transparent why not put interest space and principal space separate like FBNQUEST and United Capital. Then pay it out/reinvest it monthly if that what you desire

Hello, please I need assistance I opened a united capital account, but they are asking me for TIN number which I don't have, although I choose other options to continue the registration, please will this affect my investment if I want to withdraw my investment.

Thanks, as a young guy Omo I can't make the mistake my parents made.

I was just looking at my pension statement of account today lol.

The reason I choose MM was because of liquidity cos the money I am investing is both my emergency funds and savings, I will only have a little cash for day to day expenses.

Also I will send the questions over to MM for more answers.

There is a better way to do that, you should be able to match your investments with a tenor that aligns to it.

Investing long term money is a short term asset is not the best way, because you could make way more.

But i respect your strategy.
