I went over the FBN report again and I noticed the highlighted entry. I can only wonder what those "financial instruments" are ??
That is a massive figure especially in Q4 2023. (If we remove that entry FBN will see red.) grin
Sterling and FCMB didn't have such in their reports...

Apologies. I do not believe this is the best strategy.
A good investor should know when to hold on and when to leave. It is about having skills to know which stock to buy, hold or sell.

Managing your emotion is important.

Streetinvestor2:
Who is with me on this yeye decision. Since I started stock market,I have never sold any stock below the price I bought it.what I do is
1.If I believe in the company,I average down till I sell later at above BE
2.The shares remain thr till the company closes shop like Union homes, and many insurance companies. That is why I no like insurance companies. They do me saga in this regard
3Then some stay till they delist or another guy buys them over.it happened to Dan flour. I was with it from alhaji to tiger brand and back to alhaji. Then finally olem..Luckily all delisting has been above my BE.Adova oil and gsk
4The remaining is just thr in my portfolio. I just sold japaul. I am waiting for tantalizer, abc to go above my purchase price

I know I have lost time value of money but I no dey gree sell at loss

The answer is right in your highlight. Follow the note number 10 & 19 down the page (the number is a guide on where to find the item down the line as you read though the report ). if confused , check page 16 for definition and 33 for what instrument the FVTPL comprised of in the report. in this case, mostly treasury bills, bonds, etc. the investment securities not clearly stated.

I didn't address sterling in your comment because the statement isn't clear; in general, every business swing between categorising assets as FVOCI (other comprehensive income) vs FVTPL (profit /loss) based on the criteria of meeting cashflow test (oversimplification of the whole thing).

This can create a big mess. Based on current economic and social condition of the country it will lead to steady continued devaluation, except economic and social conditions improve. This policy on its own has a tendency to worsen these conditions. However, if security ( a social condition) improves this policy can make some economic activities attractive, especially those that substitute imported goods or are involved in exports from Nigeria.
And what did the old way create. Make we try new way.It will reduce the money going to black mark and sharp practices by banks.i will be able to collect my dollar dividend at real exchange rates. Then when supply out ways demand .The price will come down.I believe supply is more than demand, it is only it has been passing through black market. Diaspora remittance is much.It has been passing through black market

The deceit is too much in this country....I just bought USD today $1510 at the parallel market.

Cardoso is just deceiving himself...all this 24hrs circular will not address FX challenges.

The govt needs to resolve the issue of crude oil theft, insecurity so our farmers can go back to the farm, encourage diaspora remittance and build investor confidence. Anything outside this is bullshit.

In my own case, i sometimes take my loss when i sight potential elsehwere.

yesterday the UACN i bought for 14.95 was sold at less than 14.2 when i sighted UCAP on full offer at N20.

i sold all UACN and entered UCAP because i think with those prices, i should get better value for my money with ucap whose dividend will be more than UACN. Although UACN report was good but i fancy better growth in UCAP.

today UCAP is 23.2 while UACN is 14.05

Also yesterday i found that DANGOTE SUGAR was about to go down and i quickly sold all my dangote shares for N74 and queued up again to buy with all the proceed at N68. I was luck i bought it.

Today it went on full bid.

This kind JIJO good sometimes. someone was said it was risky but i say make i try am

Where there is a will, there will always be a way. The people in power don't have the will to do anything about insecurity and corruption, to many vested interests.

I think diaspora remittance dropped last year. This could be due to people holding back on projects and visits due to insecurity. If security improves there will be a massive inflow of forex as Nigeria is a growth area. And comparative advantages to be tapped for export income abound (PRESCO & OKOMU are tapping just a little grin).

Truely, market has a mind of its own. Just imagine someone after yesterday's 10 10 loss, deciding to cut his loss by selling early this morning, only to realise that the same stock made maximum gain at the end of the day. Hmmm

That person is either a trader or an inexperience self investors.
It was emphasized clearly that self investors should not panic sell volatile assets, that ot was just a sell off due to volatile nature of equities. People thought we were in a bear market due to anticipation for the fulfillment of Elliott wave 3 vs 5.
NGX will render Pro-beer investors handicap in 2024.
This index is going to the Northern hemisphere.
Volatility of +/_ 5% will surface and succumbed to the ravaging appetite of local investors for Nigeria stocks.
The good thing for self investors is that the volume of stocks traded from 2021 to till date was largely executed by 🇳🇬 Nigerian local investors.
For this reason, the stagnant market and depression of the past might not be seen in the foreseeable future, except there is a coup or civil war in Nigeria.
We are now getting used to trading and investing without the inherent disruption that character FPI participation in the market.
For, there is less room for them, coz we got no forex for repatriation of their loot.
This market is the only positive thing about Nigeria since May 29 2023, It belongs to LOCAL INVESTORS.
The government will do her part in PROTECTING the momentum.

Those days when foreign investors sell off, we know there is bear but now local investors have dominated the market.our big guys have injected billions of naira into our market giving us hope of safety.
This Govt is even shopping for investors into the Nigeria economy and people are here shouting bears.
