In a significant move to enhance Nigeria’s military capabilities in the face of escalating security challenges, the United States Department of Defense has confirmed a groundbreaking arms sale to Nigeria.

The deal, valued at $1 billion, includes the acquisition of 12 AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters, a formidable addition to Nigeria’s military assets.

The contract also encompasses 32 mission computers supplied by Northrop Grumman, with an additional contract valued at $7.7 million awarded in December to further bolster Nigeria’s defence capabilities.

Nigeria has been grappling with multifaceted security threats, including the persistent Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast and rampant banditry in the northwest.

The acquisition of the state-of-the-art AH-1Z Viper helicopters, scheduled for completion in June 2024, marks a crucial step in fortifying Nigeria’s military prowess to address these complex security challenges.

The AH-1Z Viper is a versatile attack helicopter designed for various missions, including reconnaissance, escort, and strike operations.

Nigeria’s ongoing military procurement strategy includes a range of sophisticated weaponry, such as m-346 attack aircraft, T-129 ATAK helicopters, Agusta 109 Trekker multi-role helicopters, and Chinese-made Wing Loong II drones.

Military experts say the acquisition of the AH-1Z Viper helicopters aligns with Nigeria’s broader effort to address and counteract the diverse security threats within its borders.

It is not just about having weapons. It is also about having well trained personnel that can deploy those weapons effectively and strategically based on ironclad intelligence, else na innocent civilians go suffer.

How are we going to afford the payment? I know, we will pay with oil. US always want oil even when they have more than enough in their backyard

The money involved is not as bad as the aftereffects of the arms in Nigeria.

The army that mistakenly drops bomb on innocent people are to handle the arms.

Arms that will be used against innocent people in the name of python dance and Lekki shooting order while kidnappers and Boko boys keep collecting ransom.

No money to feed the poor or create jobs but purchase of arms is prioritized.

Don't give our soldiers arms to kill hungry civilians. Tinubu, what drives insecurity in Nigeria is purely bad leadership. Use that $1 billion for buying military hardware to create jobs in Nigeria.

Everything boils down to political will to give command to the security forces to carry out their work without influences from cabals.
If you like have nuclear weapons, if there is no sincere order for the security forces to work, forget about it.

No, the payment isn't in oil.
The arms are sold by private companies with the approval of the US government.

We should be buying more advanced drones, not helicopters.
Drones are cheaper to maintain and it saves lives in case of a crash or attack since there are no pilots.

Thank you President Biden.

USA doesn’t have qualms selling us weapons, our armed forces just have to display proper human right procedures, which is to the citizen’s benefit.

We shouldn’t just be buying weapons but what President Tinubu should do is allow US military to partner and train our armed forces in various locations across the country.

They just placed an order for more arms for Fulani Bandits and Boko Haram. 75% of whatever arms Nigeria purchases, end up in the arms of violent and terrorists groups.

What is Job without security ? as far as I know security is number one or how can you work without good security?

This security challenges is crippling many businesses and sectors and it is contributing to Nigeria unemployment rate in fact we can not attract decent foreign investment if there is no adequate security.

yeah Nigeria military should destroy all sophisticated military gadgets and weapons, they should fight in military camo and boxing gloves instead of Ak47 to prevent terrorists from getting their equipment according to your logic.

Even Taliban got their hands on American forces weapons and equipment as sophisticated as US military is, do you know the worth of sophisticated weapons USA left in Afghanistan when they left?

It is war and anything can happen in war, enemies will get their hands on your weapons you don't stop equipping better weapons because of that. All you guys do is hide under your bed, wail and make stupid analysis, if you are so capable why don't you go and join the front line ?

You guys can only deceive yourselves, you are just afraid Nigerian military would be better equipped to deal with ESN, IPOB and other terrorists in the East.
