So about Taylor Swift, I think I might have to consider this "goddess" explanation because the hype is just so phenomenal. I used to listen to her in 2014/15, I fell off and then I came back years later to realise that she's suddenly everywhere. There are just a few things left for her to touch MJ (although I cannot accurately compare them together because I didn't grow up on MJ and even before he died I was not into music). She and Beyoncé are literally on the same level of success now (the Beyhives will rather Bury themselves alive than admit this).

She's a superstar in every sense of the word.

I do think American capitalism has a major role to play in her popularity, but not up to this extent. A lot of her fame can still not be accounted for (if we remove spirituality). You know why Walt Disney, J.P. Morgan, Henry Ford, those luxury brand founders and others like them are/were successful. You can read their biographies and logically follow their business trail to see how they built the corporations they built. But Taylor?

My post was not about Taylor as a person exactly but about the actions of a whole embassy. The U.S. Embassy in Japan (or maybe the other way round, I don't know) releasing a press statement about a celebrity as if they were some paparazzi blog. That was the relevance to this thread I saw and choose to post it here.


Only the little comment I dropped afterwards was personal to me.

Telling me nobody cares about her is pointless because I literally posted it as a standalone comment that everyone could have jumped and pass. I did not require an opinion on her.

It’s called multiple taxation. There are so many multiple taxation in this country which the government tacitly supports .

The government needs to think outside of just increasing taxes. If I move money from my union bank to my Access bank accounts , my access bank account will get debited N50 stamp duty for receiving money . Why ? Is that done anywhere ? Why must I pay tax for receiving money that has earlier been taxed ? If I buy anything from the remaining funds I will still pay 7.5% VAT. If I use a public transport out of the money , I will pay tax via a higher fare due to the owomida agbero collects from transport owners . The government has increased import duties recently so it makes it difficult for me to import materials and start producing goods for exportation .

If these and more continues , no amount of Tinubu blocking stealing of tax will make the nation great . That is even if he can succeed in blocking stealing of tax with someone like Akapabio as senate president , someone like Ganduje the chairman of his party , someone like Atiku Bagudu his minister for budget and planning . 🤦‍♂️
