Bbqekpa: I will advise your wife to apply for phd in Pharmaceutical chemistry. Except you have enough money to cover the deficits in the USA. That deficits will raise a red flag in your interview. Just my honest opinion 2 Likes 1 Share |

ernhiee:Great. They usually have atleast 19 GA offers yearly and they award most in the Fall semester. Keep your fingers crossed. Also, you can apply for GA openings in other departments as well. 1 Like |

NairaLuck: You can check University of South Dakota, admission comes fast if u qualify and have all necessary documents, it is on rolling basics, Cost of attendance is low its around 25k for a year, if you get graduate assistance, you COA will reduce but its 50/50.. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Yktv: Hey π€ @Newboykhoggi is my mentor so let me try and speak his mind. 1. Continue your MBA and try to finish it in France . If you are trying to apply to US institution while having an ongoing course in France i bet you , you may not get the visa because the US VOs are very smart and they knows our main intention (which is to finally relocate). They expect you that even if you want to relocate don't do it out of desperation as if you have a mission in America. 2. While your MBA is ongoing , find a reputable University in the USA or the one who gave you I 20 and ask them to send an invitation letter to you as a visiting scholar/student /prospective student and get a B1/B2 . OR , find a good conference that is very related to your work in France and apply for same visiting visa. 3. Once you are able to get your B1/B2 visa from France , then here you go. You will still have to apply for your F1 visa from France or from Nigeria . But i believe you will get it from France once you are able to secure your B1/B2. Best Wishes π |

On sharing "hacks": This is a public forum though contributors are (initially) anonymous. Thus, anyone including designated persons from Consulates, Embassies and/or Foreign Missions can view this thread. Suggest that advice/suggestions provided here should be restricted to those within (or around) the recommendations of programs/schools and/or the guidelines of Foreign Missions (e.g. that of US in Nigeria). Feel free to escalate concerns around getting requisite documentation (e.g. reference letters) to the program contact. They could provide alternatives such as waiver(s) or extend the deadline on a case-by-case basis. 1 Like |

NairaLuck: Hey π€ I am not too good in recommending institutions and their assistantships/scholarship predictions . I hope someone will still come with accurate listings . 1. However , if i were in your state , i would Google Public Research Universities in the US (States of your choice ) and send direct emails to the department of your choice . Email International Graduate Admissions office . Send mails to as many schools as possible and very possibly you should get direct answers . 2. Be certain that your course of study is in tandem with your present job portfolio or your undergraduate program . Your statement of purpose as well as your working experiences cum curriculum Vitae and standardized tests (waived by some schools) are strong points in securing admissions and Assistantship . Best Wishes π 1 Like |

Hi all. Please I just got an offer for my M.A. My prospective supervisor and program coordinator asked me to wait till month end to know the amount of funding, Scholarship, and stipend they could offer. Now my question is, if there is a funding deficit after the award, would the University accept an SOA from a sponsor in the UK to issue my I-20, since that is where my sponsor lives? Secondly, will this same foreign SOA be a red flag at the American embassy in Nigeria during visa interview? |
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Olaoke16(m): 2:13am On Feb 07 |
Yes, the university will accept the SOA from an overseas sponsor. If you can explain your relationship with your sponsor and why he or she wants to sponsor you, I don't think there's anything wrong with using him or her as your visa sponsor. NB: Be sure of what the person is doing abroad and how he or she got there. Immunity04: 2 Likes |

On Proof of Funds (PoF): If one has the money and feels a suitable expense is education in a foreign country, go ahead and apply for the non-immigrant visa. If one does not have the money but hopes to arrange documentation, somehow nick the visa interview and somehow manage in the US ... please, note that unlike in our home country where things happen "magically" (not "miraculously" as we claim), developed economies rely on established processes and systems. Thus, events/prospects are predictable (including possible outcomes post-study). Notice a lot of immigration/travel agents/consultants do not tell our compatriots the reality about moving abroad (because they are interested in collecting fees to aid such movement and most of us are desperate to leave our home country). One such reality is: there is no communal life-style abroad (e.g. the US). One is on his or her own. So one needs to make sure that fundamental concerns (e.g. financing) are feasibly/realistically mapped-out before leaving one's home-country. 3 Likes |

Bbqekpa:Your probability of getting a visa since you are going with your family is 3/10. But with a phd is 8/10. Moreover, it's not easy to work and pay school fees here in the usa. But many people think you are discouraging them. Getting a scholarship with funding is the best. But try it first, you may be fortunate. 1 Like |

Good morning. Please I requested for an updated i20 to reflect my program start date but I yet to get the document. I'd like to ask these two questions 1. Can I use the old i20 for the Interview 2. If not, what is the minimum amount of days before appointment to reschedule. |

Also check one year STEM MBA. They usually have some scholarships that would be your program cost to about 40k or less. This may not include your cost of living. ARISTOCRATDAMMY1: |

Observer25: WES is not required, unofficially transcript is accepted but an official transcript from your undergraduate university has to be sent directly to them once you are given admission 1 Like |

TenaciousOrphan: Yes, the probability is higher for doctoral programs compared to masters the reason being likelihood of funding. (As for exact numbers/odds/stats., only the US Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria knows) My people, e no easy anywhere o ... whether home or abroad, Nigeria or the US. No free dollars and bills must be paid or one is cut-off. That's how the system works. Please, plan finances well before going abroad especially if going with family. Finance is an easy trigger for divorce/separation apart from other concerns. Yes, the US is a prosperous country - the world's #1 economy - and there is the American dream(?) but still one's success here boils down to (informed/realistic) planning. 4 Likes 1 Share |
