Honestly being a graduate and searching for jobs for survival after the stressful lectures and burning of midnight candles is like trying to walk from Nigeria to USA.

I was lucky to get a job after my NYSC, as a contact agent with an outsourcing firm where I picked 500 calls per day. I had to leave due to constant pains in my ear, customers abusing you, threatening to kill you because our service is experiencing a downtime, not to mention many things that made the job stressful with 30k salary

I got lucky to manoeuvre my way to another company an IT company as the head of a department and an assistant to the boss, before leaving to like two places, can you imagine a Mech engr working as an admin and HR, which I doubt can't happen in the western country. I had another one before COVID-19 collected it from me

The problem is that Nigerian government and our lectures don't prepared us for the labour market, all they are after is just to read from test books and collect their salaries.

I keep telling people, not all graduate would be an employer of labour, setting up a company is not an easy task, considering many factors that is not in place in this country chief among them is power supply

Nigeria is not just the place to be honestly, anytime I wake up and I discovered that I'm still in this country nah vex I dey use wake up for bed, no light, no food, no water, no safety net, poor health care system

Please my husband is still in need of job, his versatile in the area of finance and tax matters, hotel management & facility maintenance. Our location is Lagos and please make unah help us and pikin dey house oooo.

Imagine a private company in Osun State paying graduates N40k as a monthly salary. Paying 40k to graduates in this current economic hardship is unfair. Unfortunately, the graduates who work with the company said they have no choice, although, we are trying to get better offers within Osogbo in sha Allah.

Also, imagine one of the most profitable companies in Nigeria collecting money from its staff for training. If the company is afraid that the staff will run away after the training then they should have a bond agreement with the staff.

However, if you think critically, you wouldn't fault the company's decision because whether the bond agreement or not, the staff can leave the company after the training without the company knowing their whereabouts. Probably, Japa to America to Canada and used the certificate of the training to get a better offer there while the Nigerian company suffered from professional staff.

Nigerians are the greatest problem of Nigeria. No exceptions.

Hmmmm. I finished my service last year June.
Lost my dad last year September. All the money I was able to save after service went to the burial.

Well I have been searching for a decent job. I got an offer at Lekki recently as a front desk officer and the salary is 60k.

From where I live in the mainland to and fro 6 times a week, 4 times a month will cost me all the money so I refused to take the offer. I have applied to places online but no response.

I have dusted my shoes and began the job hunting within. In one of the places I went recently I was told that the only available work is packaging and I was asked to come back tomorrow. Well I am going back there tomorrow. My plan is to start somewhere first then get a skill that will earn me passive income.

Also I want to delve into shoe making business. I have been talking to a friend who has the machine I want to use for the shoe making business. I want to save up and buy the machine. I will have to dedicate my weekends to acquire the skill.

Honestly it is not easy in the labour market. I have spoken to an uncle who works as a civil servant and given him my CV. Hopefully when he is able to secure a decent job for me with recommendation I will have to relocate from this Lagos. It's not easy in Lagos.

I must say the journey has not been that easy. I never sought for employment though. I had been running business: Recharge Card in Bulk before it went South after some robbery incident.

I got a job, but that life was not what I was designed for. I resigned and went back to the drawing board.

Presently I freelance and I think I have made in 2 years what I was only able to gather in 5 years.

My ADVISE:
Enterpreneurship is not for everyone and office is not for everyone. Understand your calling and follow it. But I think it is okay to gather experience working with a corporate firm for 5 years before launching your own business full time.

Note:
It is foolish working at a Job without having a side business for passive income

Let me give you a little secret about labor market. Using myself as an example, I have worked in more than 6 companies in 3 different countries and continent. Most times after about 2 years, i just get bored and feel like changing employer or when i ask them for a raise or favor. Now back to your question, the secret is this, know what the society needs and demands, then develop yourself in that particular aspect, then you will see as jobs will be coming your way.

I was also in the same frustrated frame of mind 2 years ago (2022).
However, last year (2023) by God's grace marked my 10th year in the Labour market. And all I can say is that even though I'm far from what I envisaged for my self, I am grateful for what I do have. I have also accepted my mistakes/blames where necessary and chosen to learn from them.
One thing this 10 years has afforded is Experience in various fields.

1. I graduated with a BSc in Physics from LASU.

2. Did my NYSC in Ministry of Agriculture (PPA) and Publicity (CDS). I was also lucky to get a side hustle as a home teacher for a Banker who needed Math for his Masters, and a Sec School student.

3. Though the Banker wanted to set up a school and make me his manager/principal, I opted rather for a banking job which he helped me secure by submitting my CV and guiding me through. That's how a Physicist ended up as a full-time Banker with Diamond Bank. Unfortunately I lost the job before I was confirmed. Long story, but basically "village people".

4. That's how I entered Labor market again, ended up as a Jumia Consultant (Sales Rep).

5. I later secured a job as a Accountant for a Freight and Forwarding company in Apapa, Lagos for about a year.

6. After a year and no prospect, I resigned (took a long leave) to further my studies and hope of securing a better job during or after my studies. Luckily yet a gain, made some contacts who submitted my CV and helped secure my current job. I graduated top of my set in Advanced Diploma in HRM from Unilag.

7. Unfortunately, there was no vacancy in HR so I had to start up as a Credit Officer for a year. Then I got transferred from field to Head Office in a career switch to the Automation department of the organization, where I have been for the past 7 years. This is the longest I have ever been in any organization (8 years) and even though my bank account does not reflect it, I am grateful for the opportunity and growth achieved so far. Last year the company sponsored my certification as an Associate Project Manager (CAPM).

8. This year has been a very interesting one for me. Full of opportunities and hopes. This year actually started out with an offer that came with accommodation package but I have not been led to resign yet. I have come to learn to pray and prepare myself for every opportunity God brings my way. I have learnt that God has always brought opportunities and helpers my way in this journey of life and labor market but I have not been very discerning in the past and did not effectively manage some of the opportunities.

9. My lesson from my journey in the labor market is simple- Put God first and learn to work for Him in your capacity according to the grace He has given you. Through submitting to Him and working for Him, he builds you to be responsible and endues on you qualities that are sought-after by every organization. Qualities such as Honesty/Integrity, Responsibility, Team work, Accountability, Excellence., Leadership, besides the other Spiritual gifts. Matthew 6:33

10. God bless and help us all. By God's Grace, this year will end in testimonies. We will not be focusing on the government of Nigeria but the government of God. Isaiah 9:6-7

11. I pray for everyone that is going through frustrations in this season especially with the harsh conditions of the economy, that God will make a way for you in Jesus name. That according to His Word, as you come to Him all you who labor and are heavy laden (burdened/frustrated) that He will give you Rest (Peace of mind, Comfort). That you will receive the grace to take up his own yoke/work and learn of Him for He his Gentle and Lowly in heart(humble), and you will find rest for your soul. For his work/yoke is easy and His burden (task/assignment) is light. Matthew 11:28-30.
That labor market will become favor market for you and in Jesus name.

12. And I pray for every one who is enjoying God's testimonies in this season, that our testimonies will not cease and that our path will continue to shine brighter and brighter unto the perfect day. That we will not have a better yesterday. That no weapon formed against us will prosper and every tongue that rises against us we will condemn. That we will not become proud and forget that it is God who has given us the power to make wealth. We will not give God's glory to ourselves or other gods.
And that He who has begun His Good work in us will continue and also complete it even till the day of Jesus. Amen

13. Finally the secret/mystery of work/labor is embedded in Luke 16:9-13 and Colossians 3:22'255. May the LORD grant us understanding and help us.
And as many who desire it, God will make and equip you to become employers of labour in Jesus name. Amen and Amen

EASIEST WAY TO BREAK OUT FROM POVERTY AS YOU ARE JOBLESS

(THE ANALYSIS)

Ingredients

1. You will need free browsing vpns i recommend 24 clan plus green vpn, austroplus(you should search on youtube to find out more vpns that works)

2.you should find survey sites or micro task sites that pays in Nigeria.at least 3 of such sites that pays(choose ones that pays to your local bank account or that pays airtime).your aim is to make at least 3000 naira per month(so you can bet 100 naira everyday for 30 days).or you can save up 3000 naira every month to fund your bet9ja account.

3.find good prediction sites that predict enough matches .low risk games (i recommend eagles predict)

Now here is the main gist

At least now you have something doing.you are waiting for the day you will just hit small money.let this be like your own yahooπŸ˜‚.when you get at least 5 dollars or 10 dollars (convert to naira equivalent because of exchange rate)go on fiverr and hire someone to recruit sub-affliate marketers for you.before then you should join any affliate program that pays in dollars and have multi tier/sub affliate program.the person would recruit sub affliate for you.this sub affliate any profit their make from their own personal affliate marketing efforts you have your own commission.imagine you have 10 sub affliates and each make 120 dollars per month and you get 10 percent commission from each that is 120 dollars you made (am just trying to be modest you can make more than that from this when you increase your sub-affliates and each sub affliates can make more than that a month sef)when you get profit reinvest again the marathon continues.when the money comes you can even increase your bet amount too sef.

So this is it. just getting something doing .

Before then check my signature/name/moniker/bio you would find something very useful

My experience in the labour market has been a rollercoaster

I graduated in 2015 at the age of 23, stayed almost all through 2016 at home waiting for NYSC call up. Late 2016 I was mobilised and rounded off in late 2017.

A month after NYSC, I sent tons of applications online and got a job.

It wasnt a job that I hoped for but atleast I was not idle at home.

The pay was a meagre 47,500 and was later increased to 51,500 and 61,500 respectively.

I stayed 2yrs and 6months with the company and I was so bitter because new staffs come and get better pay. While on the job I utilized the free internet to take several courses on YouTube and Udemy then began planning to take other professional exams.

I sent tons of applications and attended many interviews but the pay were all below my asking price so I just channelled energy toward pressuring the company I worked for to increase my pay because I knew how much I was generating on a monthly basis.

My frustration turned anger , I had several temptations to react negatively but held myself.

It got to a point, I had enough and re-signed. When the resignation letter was received they offered 100% increment but my mind was made up.

Been 4yrs since I left the job and I can say that it was the best decision I took. In that span I have been able to invest, build and raise my monthly income by 10 times what I used to earn.

My business is now in partnership with my former employers and I am now their major vendor supplying what they need raking millions.

Everyday I thank God for not being hot headed or leaving with a fight

I hope my story will inspire someone here.

I finished school in 2016. Returned to Lagos, joined one insurance company. After I walked for 3 days, I called my supervisor and stop going.

Then I went to service in 2017. Alawi was never enough. I had one tablet. I started using that to do some freelance writing. The writing gave me additional 15k per month.

After service, I came back to Lagos, and applied for jobs aggressively. In about 3-4 months, I got two jobs. One was contract for 2 years (₦100k), and the other was full time ₦70k. I chose the latter, which I later regretted.

While I was working at the ₦70k company, with a lot of problems (story for another day), I started learning Python programming with my phone in pursuit of data analysis career. I got better at Python with my phone, I applied for jobs and was called. I failed 2 interviews because the tests were purely on Excel. I got rejected for the third one because their pay was ₦100k and I was asking for ₦120k minimum.

After working for two years from my ₦70k job, I got fired. I came back to Lagos with only gas cylinder and plates (because I was I was initially transferred out of Lagos). I learned hair cream making online. And started producing it with the small money I had. It was a struggle.

Couple of months later, I got a job as data analyst with ₦150k salary. Two years later, got another job as senior data analyst with ₦300k.

This is not where this story ends. But I will stop here. The journey was bloody. And it's somehow better than ₦300k now.

Am I advising anybody to go into data analyst? not really.

My pont is, see internet as the best thing that ever happened to our generation. Leverage it. I studied Agricultural Economics in university, yet I learnt how to make hair cream and other products entirely on my own through the power of internet. I learnt programming with zero Naira.
