HELLO GUYS,
I SERIOUSLY NEED TO WRITE THIS IN BLOCS.
How are you guys handling the SOA. This dolllar rate is not encouraging. How does the school calculate the equivalent to naira?
$1450 dollar rate is not feasible.

Thank you.
Some schools use the google currency exchange rate which is slightly lower than what obtains at the black market but even at that it’s still very high but you still have to find a way around it so you can get your I-20.

Good morning.

Please I requested for an updated i20 to reflect my program start date but I yet to get the document. I'd like to ask these two questions
1. Can I use the old i20 for the Interview
2. If not, what is the minimum amount of days before appointment to reschedule.

Is your program start date for Fall, 2024? What date is on the I-20 you currently have?

It depends on the interval between the previous start date and the new start date. A few days is not a problem, however, anything longer (such as a semester difference) may result in unnecessary questioning at your interview because the school's updated start date in the SEVIS system will appear to the Consular Officer and this date will not comport with the date on the old I20. The record of the change will also show in the SEVIS system that the CO has access to.

What is the reason for the change in the start date? Programs are unlikely to abruptly change their start date without a valid reason. Typically, date changes are initiated by the student. I requested a change in date of a few days when I initially gained admission because of my NYSC passing out parade. My case was slightly different though because at this time I had already obtained my visa. I was concerned with CBP at the POE because I would have entered the US after the program start date on my old I20.

You can circumvent this delay by asking your school to send the updated I20 to you electronically. This is way faster than asking them to mail it to you. They will gladly email it you at no cost.

Is there anyone that was able to book a visa interview appointment just few days after submitting it on ustravels? Or it’s compulsory that we wait 232 days before we’re able to book?

Hey 🤠

You don't have to run mad , and you cannot combine financial statements to send to your Host-Institution except you have combined (two) sponsors , and do you want to join your dad in co-sponsoring yourself ?

1. That being said , it's not usually advisable for a student to sponsor him/herself except if you have been working for years and wanted to go for short programs or in the case of a PhD applicant.

2. Take your part of funds out of your account , deposit it into your dad's account and use your dad's bank statement . State your dad as the sponsor .

Best Wishes 🙏

Current (US) consular exchange rate - https://www.ustraveldocs.com/ng/en/step-3/

However, the real concern is whether the money actually available and/or if one has a feasible/realistic financing plan

Greetings guys! Please i want to ask, Is 30M budget enough for Masters in USA?

₦30,000,000 is ~$30,000 (at current US consular exchange rate of $1 to ₦1,000.
This budget is the cost of attendance i.e. includes living expenses for duration of program, transport to & fro between US and Nigeria, other ancillary expenses?

Nevertheless, ₦30,000,000 is a lot of money in Nigeria. Thus, the underlying questions are:
[1] given one's circumstances, is spending that considerable amount of money on foreign education one's best option now?
[2] what is/are the benefit(s) (or return) on this expense (or investment)?

Remember, a US study visa is a non-immigrant visa.

I have just secured admission from Temple University, waiting for their funding decision which hasn't been made yet but my supervisor told me a lot of faculty members liked my application, so I am hopeful. I want to know how to secure a date and prepare fully for the interview. Thank you.

Given this reason (change from Winter to Fall semester), you must get an updated I20 that has the new start date. You can't go with the old I20. The time gap between a Winter 24 start date and a Fall 24 start date is too long for it not to raise eyebrows at your interview. Ask the school to email you a new I20 if you think you won't get the snail mail I20 before your interview. An electronic copy of your updated I20 will suffice at your interview.

Good morning house.
I have a situation here and I need a help 😣.
Firstly my interview is coming lately this month.
I got student athlete scholarships which I will be competing for the school in sport ( about 80 - 85 percent of the school), in a word I only got just 5k to pay which I believe it won't be an issue.

The twist here is that I have already fill for immigrant petition cause my parent are citenzen and in grant petition which usually take long time to process, and I want to make inquiry about if it going to affect my f1 visa?
If it going to affect, how do I tackle it, is it by using strong home tie or any other reason?
More over my parent are my sponsor, incase they ask what do they do? And replying them they stay over sea

I'm open to suggestions. Thanks

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and/or US Foreign Mission/Service does allow dual-intent in some visa categories.
Nevertheless, they want compliance with stated visa terms and conditions.
The concern here is:
"Given the candidate's background/circumstances/profile, will he/she compile with the provisions of a non-immigrant (F1) visa if such is issued to him/her?"

As noted in the inquiry, a US-based sponsor (viz parent) is not a home-tie. Besides, one needs to clarify the status of the sponsor(s), for example:
- how was the US immigration status (e.g. permanent residence, citizenship et al.) achieved?
- if even the sponsor is willing to support the candidate (per maternal/paternal responsibility), does the proposed sponsor have the financial capacity to do so? How was this capacity attained in the US? Is this capacity sustainable? (i.e. how does the said sponsor make money and what is his/her discretionary/disposal income?).
These questions are best addressed by the candidate and the proposed sponsor(s). Anyone else can only provide generic guidance/suggestions.

Again, way(s) to demonstrate home-tie:

Please, I need your input on this matter. As a health worker, I've been in touch with an agency that is willing to sponsor me for the H1-B visa lottery. Additionally, I've applied to schools and am currently awaiting admission decisions. If, by chance, the H1-B visa application doesn't work out, could it affect my chances of obtaining an F1 visa? I've completed certification exams and hold the CGFNS VisaScreen certificate, which allows health workers to work in the US. Having these qualifications may indicate to a visa officer that I'm prepared to work in the US.

Therefore, I'm considering postponing my application for the H1-B visa lottery and waiting for admission decisions instead.

I'm facing a dilemma at the moment. Thank you.

Hey 🤠

Having a petition filed for you doesn't disqualify you for an F-1 visa or any other visa provided that you qualified for that particular status with genuine intention.

1. However, the prospect of you with a pending immigrant visa petition qualifying for an F-1 visa , regardless of your athletic scholarship is 95% dim .

2. The reason being F1 visas are non-immigrant visas which require proof of non-immigrant intent to be issued. Ipso facto, having an immigrant visa petition weakens your non-immigrant intent Proof -Making.

3. Your athletic scholarship is a great achievement but ironically it is the main brick wall towards your f-1 visa because you’re
going to have a hard time convincing the consular officer that you intend to leave the U.S. after studies.

4. Reason is that your athletic career will blossom in America (consular thinking ) and you will be seeking adjustment of status in the US via pressure from coaches and fans .

5. Your parents are still in the best place to state as your sponsor , and mention their jobs in America , they may be working from home or getting business funds from Nigeria but ironically you are dragging them in to more mud.

6. Your paternal uncle or maternal uncle or the 1st born of your family are other close alternatives you can use .

7. I will jettisson the idea of the F-1 visa if i were you , but if you want to give it a die hard attitude , then you have lot of gimmicks to display .

Best Wishes 🙏

Hey 🤠

1. In your student application portal diagram , the last blank circle (awaiting response ) means you have not accepted your offer , click on update and it should take you to where you will accept your offer , you must accept and sign by typing your full names .

2. Awaiting response will disappear as soon as you have accepted your offer , and they will verify your bank statement or scholarship letter (financial proof which they have received) which is the final stage before the issuance of your Form I 20.

3. It seems you are not the one doing the processing yourself , ask any one assisting you or email your admission officer /counselor about the % of your scholarship offer . If no one is revealing this to you then you will see everything when your I 20 is issued .

Best Wishes 🙏

Regarding my last question, I will like to give a little brief about my journey so far....

I graduated in 2015 (Forest Resources Management), completed NYSC in 2017, worked as a plantation manager between then and January 2021. Travelled to Ghana for a conference in April 2021 and entered UAE from there based on work levels. While working there, I met my current employer via an online seminar where I was a speaker. we got talking and he told me about the idea of establishing a rubber estate in Osun state. I worked remotely with his staff by organising teachings online every week for 1 hour (on my off days). We were able to establish a nursery and budding wood garden in 2021. I also contributed to Osun state establishing 2 million rubber trees through NARPPMAN even while I was working and living in UAE. Fast forward to 2023, I knew I wanted to go for my graduate program so I was prepared to write GRE, wrote that in April when I got back to Nigeria and scored 330 (162 in verbal reasoning, 168 in Quantitative reasoning and 4.5 in analytical writing). Meanwhile, I already took up a position as the head of forestry department with my employer I met online in 2021.

I applied to Michigan Technological University only (it was recommended by our consultant in Germany as he had taken some online certificate courses with the University and vouched for the high level of lecture delivery) for fall 2024. I have gotten admission AND SECURED AN EDUCATIONAL LOAN THROUGH MPOWER FINANCE FOR MY STUDIES.

Going forward, what are my chances at the Visa interview? I have no other source of funding except MPOWER, I am married, my wife isn't going with me as I am coming back to resume my role as head of forestry with my current employer (this time, I will be handling international operations...I have a letter of introduction to that effect from my chairman). Let me also add that the rubber estate project has started with establishment of 10,000 hectares of Hevea brasliensis. we project going into full production of rubber and its by products in the first quarter of 2027.

I will appreciate opinions, questions and thoughts about my case.....thanks and God bless!!!

Please,
disregard any post stating probability of securing visa approval unless the source is an authorised official of the US Embassy & Consulate in Nigeria (and shows evidence to support the stated odds/probabilities/statistics).

Suggestion:
- think through the pertinent questions posed per the respective visa issuance criteria vis-a-vis own profile
- make own decision as to the best way forward (as only the candidate knows him/herself best)

Please, try and get funding with that competitive score of 330.
Your profile and/or circumstances sound plausible (barring the the financing criteria - see suggestion in line above) for non-immigrant (F1) visa issuance.

It is really shocking that some of us have such commendable standardized test score and are still talking about taking a loan which
[1] may inhibit visa issuance,
[2] creates future financial burden and risk(s) viz principal and interest payments, risk of shooting down credit score (in the US) et al.
What did the said consultant recommend per financing the program beyond just it's quality... (remember, money talks!)

Your Nairaland profile/posts history looks clean (no foul/offensive/provocative terms seen), so let me know if you need further help.
