This can be applied to everyone. What stops someone that has been living comfortably with 5million Naira monthly from saying the same thing. If the debate was 5million and someone says he is suffering with that amount will you agree with that person. That's where cutting your coat to your size comes into play.

If someone is earning 200k and he has to cut his coat currently, is it because the person is wasteful or because that 200k is no longer enough to sustain them due to price increase

Funny enough they are both right; it's just that each person is attacking the other party's point from an extreme point of view.

It's still a much better position. We were just discussing this at work today. That we will prefer a reset to 2018 when we were earning a far lower salary but that lower salary was more than enough. I remember how I'll receive salary at the time and I'll spend and spend, the money no go gree finish.

Now with all the increase, the way the salary dey waka, I don't even understand.

Would you say your current salary is enough or you need to cut your coat so it becomes enough?

I'm sure there's an amount that's expected to sustain the lifestyle of a lower-middle to a proper middle-class family (husband, wife and two kids) in Nigeria of today, it might vary depending on the location, but there's an objective average or range.
600K is a lot of money, but it's not so much really.

TYPICAL MONTHLY EXPENSE FOR A FAMILY OF FOUR ( BOTH KIDS ABOVE 3 YEARS)
NEPA + Fuel for house - 30K
Rent per month (2 bedroom flat) - 65K
Fuel for the family car - 60K
Feeding for family, including base food the kids take to school - 120K
Snacks for kids to school - 16K
Toiletries - 10K
School fees for both kids per month - 50K
Black tax - 15K
Clothing allowance for the family - 20K
DSTV Compact - 14K
Data for family - 20K
House bills - 5K
Car maintenance per month - 10K
Offering - 5K
Miscellaneous - 40K

TOTAL - 480K

I might be forgetting a thing or two, but in my opinion, this should be about monthly expenses for a lower-middle to a proper middle-class family, especially in Lagos (mainlands of mainland grin).

Lmao.. The fuel for family car, I'm guessing it's a jeep but let's assume it's a car that 30k can fill the tank so a small economy vehicle. Likely a kia😁

How many times in a month are they filling the tank? 😁? Let's start from there.

65k is a 780k for rent.
So meaning they live in an area that is cheap (using Lagos). Meaning the traffic situation is bad because most cheap areas on the mainland in Lagos usually have traffic issues. See I used most oo.
780k for a 2bedroom flat is a miracle except in Ikorodu, deep inside ago or Festac, even satellite Don
Increase in rent and you'll deal with traffic.
Meaning more fuel consumption 😁

60K fit work if you na toyota and car runs dey like around 25 mins max per trip, plus augumenting with bike and keke where necessary (dawan na another money on e own). I fill tank with 30K (tank wasn't empty BTW, but e low) on Sunday, e don drop pass half and I dey do half school run (neighbour does morning) and work from home...my car dey chop fuel, but don't see how a car with good fuel economy no go don chop say 10K this week already.

Online reality sweet well well.

Checking it now, 6 million is actually enough for a proper family person.

Not much, but it is okay

And also where the car travels to. If papa dey work for V.I or Lekki and he drives the vehicle to work daily, there's no way N60k will be enough to fuel it for the whole month

That Black tax of N15k must be for someone who is an orphan with no surviving hanger-ons from his family. Because person wey get papa and mama wey send am go school no go dey send them N15k out of N600k salary o. Except he no get conscience.

600k might not be enough to sustain the lifestyle of someone who was earning it before, but it's okay to sustain the life style of someone earning 50k before which is where Izzous point comes in. You see it's not absolute.

Look at the breakdown Theflint1 just posted. It's truly not a lot or money in today's Nigeria but its just enough to bet by.

Going from 50k to 600k is a rarity (I'm talking miracle like winning bet) .
There's almost always a progression which is matched by your expenses.

This is a fair view of the matter . For someone who has been earning 600k before subsidy was removed and dollar floated , he will struggle to adjust to the new reality.

However for someone that has never earned close to that region of income before , if he starts earning 600k today he will be more than happy to even add more expenses instead of cutting down on his expenses .

You have to have very good knowledge of prices too.
But your gas from depot. It is always cheaper. It is 980 at Mobil /nipco vs 1200

Coke is 270 to 300, but it is 230 at market square. Shoprite used to be the best place to buy some items, but that was before the exit of the owners.

Like too small? I thought so too but he still has like 100k+ left in his calculations. So if you adjust accordingly, you'll still come to the conclusion that it's just enough to get by if you don't mind not saving money and all you do is pay bills while living a fairly decent life.
