kabe1: I assuming you further note that the C-295 is even cheaper. That's more coincident with me. So why exactly do you prefer that kc390 over it? I mean, I believe NAF does not do heavy airlifts. It's just mostly personnel and supplies. |

kabe1:- Shorter take off and landing distance is evidence, as is turboprop vs turbofan....it's no secret that turbofans don't like dust. - Source?? they are nearly 3 times the unit price but what are the maintenance figures? where did you get that it costs 4 times more to operate? - It is exactly what I said it is. It certainly is a tactical airlift which can carry strategic loads. What are the limitations except for the price? |

kabe1: Our C130s need to be replaced, BUUUUUT can the Brazilian plane perform same tasks like the C130 like take off from short unprepared dirt strip for tactical airfreight ops? What's it's capacity compared to the C130? Those air intakes of those jet engines on dirt runways.......dunno mean. Still, beautiful bird. 1 Like |

jl115: From the video above, you can see the C390 takeoff from dirt runways without issues. Besides how many times have you seen South African C-130s takeoff from dirt runways? Even in the raging Russia -Ukraine war, we haven't seen heavy transport planes takeoff from dirt runways. |

jl115: @the bolded: I bet you would also want the SANDF to exit the Congo right now, giving recent fatal mishaps Wrong move sir. Even me as a Nigerian, I really love how South Africa maintain a buoyant foreign policy. In a world of global interconnectedness, it would be a mistake to live in a cocoon. By the way, I don't think the Americans would push South Africa into a sanction...that would only solidify the Messiah claims of the BRICS nations 1 Like |

jl115: Do yourself a favour and go read the actual thing, not media reports about it. It's even more incoherent and nonsensical than the last failed one. A refresher for all of us, on how a bill actually becomes law in the US: 1) referencing the bill as introduced by the US Congress is incorrect: It's not a Congressional Bill. It's been introduced by two members of the House of Reps; 2) the next step would be for a committee to review the bill and either send it to the floor of the House for a vote, or kill it; 3) If the House of Reps ratifies it, it's then forwarded to the Senate for discussion and a possible vote; 4) If Senate does approve it, it then has to go to the President who can either ratify or veto it. A process that could take years or not even see the light of day (A previous similar bill after the Lady R nonsense didn't even make it to step 2 above). South Africans who don't like the direction of foreign and other policies under the ANC, must do the hard work of developing superior policies and persuading their fellow citizens to chuck out the incumbents. The short cut of lobbying ideological mates in western legislatures, think-tanks and media is lazy, useless and reeks of political immaturity. |

kabe1:- I never said it can't take off from dirt runways however in the long run turbofans will need more maintenance than Turboprops due to dust exposure, this is a well known fact. - During the border war quiet a lot actually - What's the infrastructure like....Africa vs Ukraine? also the A400m is quite small compared to the likes of the C17, An-124, Y20 ect ect

Bacteria8:Why the laughing emoji? secondly we've lost soldiers in the DRC before it's not something new to lose soldiers in conflict areas. And yes I've said we should've left the DRC once the UN stopped funding Rooivalk deployments They never mentioned sanctions they mentioned kicking SA from the AGOA trade agreement |

jl115: There's no evidence that the Turbofan will perform consistently over an extended period flying from unpaved surfaces. All Airplanes require routine maintenance after flight, whether Turbofan or Turboprop. You showed 1 picture of the C-130 flying from an unpaved surface, provide us with the raw numbers of flights from paved and unpaved surfaces. A400M is a Strategic airlifter, this isn't even up for debate. 1 Like |

Lurker4Long: A Nigerian is taking over security operations in Western Sahara scene. Brigadier General Gabriel Olufemi Esho made history as he was officially appointed as the Deputy Force Commander of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO). This prestigious position not only marks a personal achievement for Brigadier General Esho but also signifies a significant milestone for Nigeria, as he becomes the first Nigerian to hold such a position within MINURSO. In a colorful ceremony, Brigadier General Esho took over from Commodore Faustina Boakyewwa Anokye from the Ghana Navy. Brigadier General Esho hails from Ondo State in western Nigeria. From a young age, he showed great determination and an unwavering commitment to serving others, which led him to pursue a career in the military. After graduating from the prestigious Nigerian Defense Academy as a member of 46th Regular Course with an honorary degree in Mathematics and a masters degree in Strategic Studies, his dedication and exceptional leadership qualities quickly garnered attention. Throughout his career, Brig Gen Esho displayed fierceness, resilience, and a remarkable grasp of strategic military operations. His ability to think on his feet and a deep understanding of complex regional dynamics made him a natural choice for various peacekeeping missions across Africa. His stellar track record soon captured the attention of the United Nations, which recognized his incredible potential and appointed him to MINURSO. MINURSO was established by the UN Security Council in 1991 with the primary objective of overseeing the referendum on self-determination for the people of Western Sahara. The mission has long been regarded as one of the most challenging, yet crucial, peacekeeping operations in the world. Brigadier General Esho's appointment as Deputy Force Commander not only recognizes his exceptional military skills but also highlights the UN's commitment to diversifying its peacekeeping forces. As Brig Gen Esho assumes his role, his priority will be to strengthen the mission's mandate and ensure the safety and well-being of the local population in Western Sahara. His vision for MINURSO includes actively engaging with the Sahrawi people, fostering dialogue, and promoting trust within the communities. Brig Gen Esho firmly believes that sustainable peace can only be achieved through understanding and collaboration. Reflecting on his accomplishment, Brigadier General Esho expressed deep gratitude for the support he has received. He emphasized the importance of diversity within global peacekeeping missions, stating that representation is essential for meaningful and lasting change. Undoubtedly, his appointment will serve as an inspiration to aspiring Nigerian military personnel and young individuals across Africa. As the first Nigerian to stand tall in the role of Deputy Force Commander in MINURSO, Brigadier General Esho is undeniably a trailblazer. His appointment not only embodies Nigeria's commitment to global peace and security but also paves the way for a more inclusive and representative future for peacekeeping missions worldwide.
