Relocating To Portharcourt (advise Needed) by OlabodeTECH: 2:53pm On Jun 14, 2021 |
Good afternoon Nairalanders! I recently got a job at Rumuobiakani (PH) and I am expected to resume in August. I have a family of four. My wife is working on a transfer to PH too once I settle down. The issue now is I have never lived outside of Lagos all my life except for my 1 year NYSC programme at Ijebu-Ode. Please note I am a Lagosian by origin. A friend proposed getting an apartment at Woji, Trans-Amadi or Peter Odili. How is life like in PH in general? Is it Cosmopolitan like Lagos? Heard there is an 8pm curfew due to insecurities. Also recently watched a video of a lady crying out about the ritual killings in some areas there. What are the things we should look out for? Considering the volatile nature of Niger Delta (although calm for some years now), Is it really wise to fully relocate with no family, friend or support structure nearby outside of a few work colleagues? |

Guy relax and forget about what you read in the news, truth is that there's insecurity in all part of the country but pH is cool and you ll love it. An easy going place almost traffic free. Except for our ode governor with loud mouth. Not as driven as lagos so if you re looking for cool place with less rascality, easy going etc then pH is your kinda place. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

Depends on the job, the places you mentioned are kind of safe but expensive. There's steady power supply in those areas and security there is moderate. You may check properties at Eliozu, Okporo. If you are looking for a proper environment to train your kids, you may check properties in Farm road rukpokwu (that area is secure) If you would like to design your interiors when you relocate contact us. Port Harcourt is cooler, and safer than Lagos . But a bit expensive depending on the area you are coming from in Lagos. I lived all my life in Lagos before relocating to Ph. Believe me,I love Ph one million times than Lagos 5 Likes 1 Share |

Wakanakarue:Crazy traffic is what I hate most about Lagos. From city centres to Suburbs. I've always thought no major city in Nigeria I.e Lagos, Abuja and PH is almost traffic free. "Rural cities" like Ibadan, Ogbomosho can't even lay claim to being traffic free. Are you for real? Even during morning and evening rush hours? 1 Like 1 Share |

Ikea81:This is a bold statement. If this is true, then how come thousands are trooping to Lagos on a daily basis? I tire for Lagos no be small |

ecolime: Most traffic currently experienced in pH now re due to on going road construction, maybe truck broke down on the road or maybe weekend ikwerre burials which they would close a lane because they got no land left . Rumuobiokani were your office is located is mostly free. So if you get a house around I can guarantee you traffic free movement tro and fro. 1 Like 1 Share |

Settling down in Port Harcourt isn't that difficult. You can get a standard 2 bedroom for you and your family at woji for between 550k to 600k depending on your taste. With good electricity say 18 hours a day. Woji isn't far from Rumubiakani. PH is safe, people here are friendly if you stayed in Lagos trust me you will adapt to pH easily. The social life is a bit tamed for now. I guess wike knows best but basically there isn't any security threat. Price of food items are getting expensive by the minute. Mind you there are other options for choice of living but it may be farther than where you got a job. Wish you all the best. 2 Likes 1 Share |

rebirthto:Igwuruta is more like a new developing area and is cheaper than some area in Ph. 2 bed flat will cost you 200k - 250k When you get to PH find out the cost of school yourself since you will need the school location around Igwurita |
