Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the socio-political group of Nigerians of southeast extraction on Monday in Enugu directed that Nigerians from the geopolitical zone should not partake in a planned national protest.

There had been plans by some groups that Nigerians at home and in the diaspora should embark on protests over their declared economic hardships in the country.

President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, who gave the directive said he had received entreaties requesting him to call Nigerians from the geopolitical zone to join in the violent demonstration across country.

“As your leader, I am directing that no Igbo group or community in Nigeria or in the diaspora should join any protest against this government.

“I am still studying the situation and I have asked those who made entreaties to me to tell me what their position was prior to the current administration.

“I have asked what they did when Igbo land was disenfranchised in the past,’’ he said.

Iwuanyawu described current economic crisis in Nigeria as unfortunate, and assured that he would convene a meeting of top Igbo economists and experts to strategise on how to overcome the hardships.

He said the economists and experts would proffer advice to President Bola Tinubu on the economy, and Igbos would rally round the president to ensure that he completed his tenure.

“Igbos are opposed to military rule and prefer a democratic government where we can express our views.

“Youths all over the world are very restive and sensitive to issues affecting their future. In Nigeria, Igbo youths and youths from other tribes at various times have expressed their dissatisfaction with events in the country.

“It is clear to us that when youths from other tribes of the country are involved, they are reprimanded and forgiven; but when Igbo youths get involved they are arrested, incarcerated and even charged for serious offences.

“For example, the arrest and detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu generated a lot of problems for Igbos.

“Many Igbos, including governors, law-makers, religious leaders, traditional rulers, and business leaders pleaded for the release of Mazi Kanu without success,’’ he noted.

Iwuanyanwu also expressed displeasure that many Igbo youths were in correctional centres over flimsy reasons.

“Most of the Igbo are in the Southeast and the region is sadly marginalised in all ramifications as it is the only geopolitical zone that has only five states.

“This situation has cost us billions in financial losses. It has also cost us losses in political appointments and legislative representations.

“In 2005 and 2014, we raised these issues at various political conferences.

“All men of goodwill at the conferences agreed that it was unfair for the Southeast to have only five states.

“They recommended that an additional state be created in the Southeast, but up till today, this has not been done,’’ Iwuanyanwu said.

He said his statement should serve as a notice that if no step was taken by the Federal Government and the National Assembly to create an additional state in the Southeast, he would go to court. (NAN)

Because na only Igbo man get business abi.

Your logic is that the situation doesn't concern you, but at the same time you can't stop wailing online and begging offline.

But on a more serious note, this man here is making sense.

“Igbos are opposed to military rule and prefer a democratic government where we can express our views.

This is how a true patriotic citizen speaks. This one has put behind him the election loss and is already thinking of the future

If Igbos join it will be tagged IPOB and the Fulani dominated Army will be unleashed as we saw under Buhari. Do you remember how Igbos were mocked and Buhari cheered here with these humiliating and dehumanising pictures for peacefully protesting against injustice and marginalisation.

Not forgetting the killing by the Army of 'General' Ikonso (pictured below) young man who put his life on the line to protect Igbo communities from rampaging Fulani militia based on the warning by Nnamdi Kanu long before other Nigerians realised what was coming ahead now called 'bandits' which has led to the current food crisis as farming communities are no longer able to feed themselves as farmers are killed or kidnapped or asked to pay tax and ransom before planting and harvesting in several states.

Igbos have sacrificed enough for Nigeria, they are always the first targets of riots in the North with their shops either burnt or looted and never compensated by the Govt if they survive with their lives.

Please lets leave Igbos out of this, allow them to breathe

Why would they protest, they are enjoying now. 3x sales

3x sales in which economy? How? When people had more purchasing power, businesses didn't post 3x sales. Is it when people are eating just once a day that businesses would now be posting 3x sales?

A beer parlour while selling beer at 350/400 had barely moderate traffic/customer, now beer is about 1000, that beer parlour will now 3x sales? E make sense to you?

It shows you own no business. Most businesses are posting losses. Increase in price of many commodities does not often translate to increase in profits. To make things worse, there's hardly any increase in income for many people so how they'll increase their spending is dumb thinking.

The truth is that no protest can change the price of anything in the market. So anyone deciding not to organize such is right in that regards. A spontaneous revolution whose momentum is sustained by the majority's desire for change and not some organiser and mobilizers is what can bring about what this country needs. Within the present institutional framework and setup, all we'll be getting are different handlers and same results

South East no even send Ohaneze Ndi Igbo right from time.
No South Easterner has time for protest and it’s not because Ohaneze Ndi Igbo said so.

South East already expected the level of hardship that will go round the country, if the EVIL APC party continued ruling.

This is one of the reasons I don't pity the south east when they shout marginalization. They are not patriotic at all. Every region in nigeria is protesting the unbearable cost of living but they will rather sit down and look. If the protests works and the prices of goods and services come down they will buy cheaper goods from the market and reap where they did not sow. Peter Obi that they see as a messiah is worse than failure. His record in Anambra speaks volume. We will keep teaching you people political lessons
