2006 when buhari became a president. I know i studied his body language and advice Nigerians on how to survive on this thread. https://www.nairaland.com/2811049/how-survive-2016-expected-economic

Some called me a prophet of doom, but when Buhari started dealing with them, the started to edit their post and called me a prophet. I am not a prophet. As an igbo business man, I only have the ability to see the future base on data available to me.

This year January told my oga a Yoruba who is a nairalander here to store food. He said no that he want to use his money to buy a contruction equipment for rental. I tried all I can to discourage him because I know in time like this contruction will not move but he refused. I even beg him to store the food and resale it by July and still buy the equipment with change he refused and went ahead to buy the equipment. Till now he has not rent out this equipment. Cement has increased and no chance breaking even the cost of this machine in the nearest future.

I told him I want to buy food he started laughing at me. Even jokingly called my wife to discourage me. Their laugh did not move me. I came online to start learning about food storage. I spent 2 day and night to study food storage. I can in contact with a good hausa friend on this nairaland. His user name is shariff84. Who help me buy food from. The north. I also get another woman from benue state to by for me. All my storage cost me about 5miill

I bought this food last month and within this January/ February some of the food have double while my friend is yet to make any rent. eg beans garri, rice, yarm etc.

What am I trying to say

We Igbos are mostly traders. As trader you are very closer to market data and trend. A trader can easily analyze and focast the likely future price of good unlike a civil servant. A hausa man is also in a good position to focus the future price of Agriculture but they don't because everything is the will of God, and beliefs that When the time comes God will provide.

To average igbo man everything is about business
To housa man everything is about religion
To a Yoruba man everything is about entertainment.

It is foolish to say it may not affect Igbos. We buy from the same market, we operate under the same economy and we are all facing the economic realities together. The only difference is the average Igbo man will adapt without complain

I may have used the wrong word "foolish" and I apologize about that but trying to imply that it may not affect Igbos much is hogwash. After adjusting prices to sell for the traders, you will still buy other items from other people adjusting prices as well. You will still pay adjusted school fees. Now those in Igboland, are they all traders? Do you have different prices for Igbos and adjusted prices for others??

Of course.
Do you run a food-selling business or it's just for personal consumption?

No one will say it's not affecting us. We are all in the same country. What we are saying is that we will not join hand with anyone to tackle the govt. We warned but they didn't listen. So they should fight the chaos they brought in themselves. All of us park here grin

Who said Igbo people are mostly traders?
You lie.
There are more non Igbo traders than Igbo ones.
That Igbos dominate that sector doesn't mean that's all they do

The economic hardship is affecting everybody make no person pretend otherwise.Every family man knows how hard it is to provide for an average family of five.Make una chill with all this it won't affect us like others.Anyway most people saying this şhit are still single and do not know what they are talking about. Not every Igbo man is a wealthy trader or businessman. Many are unemployed like other Nigerians. Many are civil servant who receives $20 monthly salary while a bag of rice is now 80k.Make una chill.

Like I said in the other thread where the person only retorted with insults, a good chunk of Ndigbo trade in Luxury goods and not essential ones.

Those are the first things people stop buying in a recession. Ndigbo hoping for the economy to get worse need to be mindful of living in glass houses and throwing stones.

Lets hope for the best for us all sha

Only if we all are of one tribe , I bet things would have been better for us .
Igbo this , Hausa that ,Yoruba why!! ,Please live and let live this show of tribalism wouldn't take us any inch further .
That u forsee what's might be in the next phase of life is simply forecast, and just hit a jackpot,The only question I have for you is how many of your kinsmen where u able to convince to do likewise and they oblige?
I can boldly put it to you that its your so called tribesmen that will be patronising your inflated prices on those perishable goods.

Igbos dominate both essential and luxury goods.
They import them and for the locally made ones, they are the major distributors before it gets to your own retailers.

If things are cool with you and your family, your luck but don't rub it on other people's face cos you don't live with them.

Hey, shelve it there. When you grow up and have family you are responsible for, you can come back with a rebuttal. By the way, I didn't read that rubbish.
