I wish to urgently call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to end the inconsistency in duty charges as it is affecting the general business atmosphere in the country. The federal government should stop the arbitrary and ever-increasing customs duties asit is now negatively impacting businesses and the cost of items, and this portends a huge danger to the economy.

A situation where at the point of initiating importation, Form M and other documents related to importation are based on a particular rate of exchange, for example, N1000 to $1, being the prevailing exchange rate at the time which the importer of goods was used to calculate the entire process, from the import initiation to receipt of goods in his warehouse. Then suddenly when the goods arrive in Nigeria, and duties are calculated at different rates, say N1400 to $1, it becomes a serious business challenge that results in business losses.

Worse still, it directly fuels the inflationary spike which is the basis of increasing cost of goods and living. Such arbitrary charges will obviously lead to further closure of businesses, and attendant job losses. This is because at the time of the initiation of the business, calculations, including duties, have been made based on the prevailing exchange rate, and the prevailing market prices.

If this situation is not corrected, our importers may resort to using ports of nearby countries, a situation that will leave our ports under-productive, and further deepen our economy into a worse situation as a result of loss of revenue. The government should also show consistency in its policies as this will help with economic forecasting and business planning.

Businesses are dying and manufacturers are shutting down because of the poor and inconsistent economic policies of the government. All efforts of the government should be directed at supporting businesses, especially those in the manufacturing sector, to keep their businesses afloat and keep the economy growing, as the small business sector remains the most critical engine of economic growth. We cannot afford to target high customs revenues at the expense of the survival of local businesses, employment and reasonable cost of living - PO

Telling tilimbu what to do is a complete waste of time and energy.

He has Zero knowledge of anything, Zero plans and zero blueprints.

He only came to fulfill his long term selfish ambition of becoming the president of Nigeria.

to be honest at times i think Nigerians are just stupid or dumb to think that a nation of over 200 million people left a man like peter obi to vote for an old wrinkled out druggie with nothing to offer . is beyond stupid and dumb. the curse upon Nigeria and Nigerians is far above what the eyes can see. just because you are getting money and living well doesn't mean you aint cursed. you are cursed with insecurity .. you are cursed with no constant electricity . you are cursed the day you became a Nigerian. you are cursed with bad government . you are cursed with greedy , you are cursed with tribalism you are cursed with hardship. you are cursed with lack of freedom. i can go on and on

. Your final resting place will be in heaven.

This is a very simple solution that will solve most of the inflationary issues. But no, the master strategist is all about revenue making. In other climes, the customs authority is meant to facilitate trade, while ours is a revenue institution.

You cannot CONTROL the MONEY MARKET but the tariff and exchange rate for clearance is solely within our control.
Peg the exchange rates for clearance at N500 and see the prices of things go down.

What do I know, no be statistics we go chop jare.

His excellency, president Peter obi shouldn't bother advising the drug lord on what to do. Leave the drug lord to keep starving his people from SW back to back!

Meanwhile Seunmsg and donphilopus are nowhere to be found to defend the monumental failure in aso rock. 🤡

I'm even confused. Like what's even happening in this country?. My friend that imports don't even talk about buying markets again.... He's not even always present in his clearing office again. Either bar or one private place like that catching cruise... It's becoming something else. Many families can't feed. The people we were helping before, we can't even help them again.... It's very bad

Peter Obi is already a billionaire whether you increase it to 1000%, he's still comfortable. He's telling the government what to do to ameliorate the hardship the masses are facing.
This is for APC 30k gangs that would soon flood in here with their usual noise.

Exchange rate hit ₦1,605/$ today .
I did IMPORT DUTY EXEMPTION CERTIFICATE at 351/$ 2 years ago.
That IDEC is practically useless today.
This galloping exchange rate for import has to stop. It is not sustainable.

It is not Atiku talking. Lets just ignore him.

But business man can not loose. He will just add twice what ever charge they paid to custom on the price of the goods.
Nigeria in quest of generating revenue created the inflation we are crying of daily.
They keep making reference to investing in Agriculture as if the inflation was caused by too few goods and not cost of production, cost of transportation, cost of storage, cost of security and clearance cost not to mention middlemen.

A million dollar advice given by the man Nigeria needs.
This is an advice that the Fed government will assemble think thanks both within and outside the country and millions of dollars spent yet His excellency has proffered a solution to what a supposed Chartered accountant didn't learn in school.

My God I don't want the western Nigeria people to enjoy the bounties from this man when he becomes President. This man is just too good!

However, Tinubu till 2031
