My dear, that is not a crime and no one will criticize you for not visited airport, if you don't have a business doing there. I never visited an airport until I was 35 that I was ready to travel, and now I have visited most of the sophisticated airports in the world.
Re: I Have Never Been To An Airport by Sirseedorf(m): 1:52pm On Feb 23
Same here, haven't been to an airport, not to talk of touching a plane, well i guess it's not yet my time.
Anyways it doesn't give me much concern as not having money in my bank account.

I am in my late twenties. It seems strange that I have never visited an airport. Sometimes i feel ashamed and never talk about it with anybody.

I don't know if it's due to too much responsibilities on me. Who is in the same boat with me? How do you cope when people talk about visiting an airport? Do you pretend as if u have visited an airport? Do you say the truth and let people mock you?

An airplane is a mode of transportation, and not a badge of honor designating "I don blow."

U don't need to bother ur head about that because when it is your time u will certainly not only visit but board a plane. My wife always say that she feels ashamed that she has never boarded a flight even if na local flight but when she got visa to the UK it was her first flight. Your time too will come just like my wife own that hers was even international. It is not a shame to ask questions if it's your first flight.

Nothing to be ashamed of.

There are many Americans, Europeans who have never been to the airport too

I have met lots of Europeans who haven't left their country, and those who have, left by bus, since the EU is so logistically integrated. They haven't been to an airport.

You don't need to feel ashamed. Don't qualify your self-worth with things like that. And if anybody looks down on you because you haven't been to an airport, then the person is an idiot.

Exactly, I realized that many Americans don’t even travel out of their place of birth. Mostly because everything they need is in their place of birth so they don’t even attempt to travel maybe until later in life

The fact that you've never been to an airport doesn't make you a failure. I was never at an airport until I was 32 but I'm very successful regardless. The first experience was surreal and I have been to different airports after that but doesn't change the fact that I was relatively successful for some years yet never travelled by air until I was 32. There are privileges that being from a poor background will take from you but that shouldn't stop you.

@bolded. Motivation for the poor kids

Material things shouldn't define you. I understand that Nigeria is a heavily materialized society, but you must resist that pressure. I won't judge you if you haven't swum before, or eat in a five-star restaurant, or entered a plane.

I would be more interested to be the person that gives you that experience. I want to see your reaction and laugh at you (in a cheerful way) as you react when the plane takes off.

The only thing I will judge you with is your character, not your material state. This is the way of the strong and refined individual. Anyone who ignores your character no matter how rotten, but respects you for your money, should stay away from such a person.

The way Nigerians respect corrupt and wealthy politicians, if it's me, you will probably get a snub at best, or a punch at worse. I don't care about people's money, but character.

God bless you.
I also respect integrity of people because it says a lot about everything they are and have.

One of the most sincere posts of all time. No worry bro you’ll be like me that didn’t visit the airport until I went to abroad. That was my first time… But you can walk into the airport and have a drink and snacks. Ask bold questions and enquirer from airport attendants. They won’t bite you.

I had never been to one nor flown on one before until last year. Why are you bothered? If you do not have a business being on a plane, why then should you be worried? What people lose sleep over makes me shudder.

And if people laugh at or jest at you for something out of your control as this one, you should be more than glad to fûck them off. Nigerians and silly classism.

Watch YouTube.

Plan a Lagos Abuja return trip for your next vacation.

Visit MM2, dine at CR or KFC. Shop at the shops and go home.

So visiting the airport is now an achievement?
Why botherig yourself When you are not traveling out of the country or having anything to do there.
Silly reasoning!

When has going to an airport become an achievement?
Don't let unnecessary things bother you.
When it's time, you will find your way there, and not just for sight seeing.

My first time to be at an airport was purposely because I want to travel,I was in my thirties. And in 5 years now I've lost count (Alhamdulilah, all praises due to God).

Then sometimes it's cos we have not had the experience, we begin to be too anxious. To me it's not something to feel bad for not experiencing, normally it's a place you have to visit for a reason i.e to travel or pick someone.

There are people who are okay but has not been to the airport.
Re: I Have Never Been To An Airport by Olumaeme: 6:29pm On Feb 23
I am 32 years old, I visited the airport only twice in my life to receive a package for my office but didn't even sighted a plane until last year, where I have told my colleagues in the office that I have never been on a plane.

So am opportunity came for 2 trips, even though I was not the one that should have gone for that trip, they gave them 2 me and I had the opportunity of flying to Gombe and Sokoto and I loved it.

There is no big deal, there is always a first time to everything,

99.5% of Nigerians will never be to an airport! A people that is complaining of cost of land transport, food, and electricity do not have any use of air travel.

That is why I'm always surprised when people praise politicians for building airports.

They spent your money to avoid gun men killing them on the crooked roads leaving you to the mercy of God.

What am I supposed to go and do at the airport if I am not boarding a plane?? I have been there couple of times though, I only asked to tell you that it would be my last worry if I hadn't been there

Losing money can easily lead to losing your health and character.
Character is what gave me my present job.

Before I got this present job, I had depression, and it affected my health but it didn't affect my Character.

Character is everything. With character, second chance could come.

There are lots of rich people who haven't traveled by air or even gotten to the airport. It's not an achievement. You don't have to if you have no need for it. A lot of Americans don't even have international passports and have never left the country neither have they been to the airport too. You have nothing to be ashamed of

Please relax!

I’ve never been to the beach, I’ve seen the inside of an airplane only twice, to and fro Abuja pursuing something that didn’t work out. I’ve been to the movie theater only twice. Never entered a club. Did go to a police station once for some bullshit reason.

I don’t feel bad about any of that. Sure it’s good to explore beyond your comfort zone and it does help to give the ol brain something more to think about but overall it’s not something i hide from. I’m okay seeing those things.

I’ll go to an airport again if ever i have reason to. I’ll see a beach if it’s right behind my house, otherwise maybe if i get realllly bored shaa. Movies suck these days so why waste money and get punished by the blasts of cold air. A night club is exactly what i imagine it is: loud and sad and I’ll hate it in 5 minutes so why would i ever go.

You can make a bucket list and get to those things but it shouldn’t be your priority. People lie to make their lives seem more exciting all the time. It’s okay to just do whatever makes you happy and tell them to send you a postcard from wherever.

Alternatively, just book an uber, go to an airport and go back home. Problem solved

Bro, I'm in my 40s and I have never really been to an airport perse, my closest was at the PH international Airport many years ago when I joined a few friends and we just drove to the entrance gate and viewed some planes and we left.

While it is good to have experienced what an airport is like, but that doesn't define who you are or your worth as a person. I've had opportunities to fly especially when flight was 15k to and from Lagos to PH but I didn't see it like my life depended on it.

No regrets whatsoever. When the time is ripe I'll travel by air. Currently, I can foot the bill to any part of Nigeria, but it is not a necessity.

So please take one step at a time.
